Splendora sat in her room on Tom’s ship. They were returning light but with more then she had hoped for. She couldn’t wait to tell Bremer when they arrived, or many she’d let Tom do it.
Her last meeting with her half-brother had been eye opening. It had given her a lot to think about but she knew that she was going back to the life that she wanted.
She sighed as stood and walked to the bed to lay down. There was nothing for her to do for the trip back but rest. She was exhausted. She now had two businesses and while she loved her original spa, she would be focusing on hiring a manager so that she could go ahead and focus on the other business. Who would have thought that she would be a bounty hunter?
She turned to the side and picked up her book but didn’t open it yet.
Her mind kept turning things over. She would need to talk Tom as well. There was something she had to tell him, a medical report she had to tell him about that Hades had given her before she left.
The news was good or bad depending on how you looked at things. She wasn’t sure at the moment. She was still numb. She hoped that Tom would be okay with things…it could change the course of their entire relationship and as sad as it made her it scared her too. Would he leave?
She shook her head a little, she would not think that way. Perhaps things would go well; she wouldn’t know until they talked and she wanted one more opinion before she said anything so their ‘talk’ would have to wait until they were back on the station and settled in.
Hopefully by the time that they got back both her shops would have been put in order. Her new ship would arrive as well and that would be a sight to see.
She lay opened the book and then shut it again. She put it to the side unable to read. Standing she walked to the replicator and ordered a hot chocolate. Carolyn had been right. Chocolate made things better.
As she passed the mirror, she looked at her own reflection. “Who councils the counselor? She could go to Rol or Ariana. She would see who was free.
With hot chocolate in hand, she took a spot by the window to watch the stars until she’d drunk her drink and then she would go find someone to talk to. Tom was on the bridge and would be till late tonight. She’d been avoiding him knowing that he’d see something was up.
Until all this was settled, she needed to be left with her thoughts. Sipping from her cup she sighed. “This all sucks!” She allowed herself the admission. It didn’t take her long to finish her drink and then she headed out in search of some support now that Hades was gone. Ariana was asleep, she too had it hard right now, she’d lost Hades and Carolyn. Perhaps Rol. She checked in the common areas first and then found herself at the door of his quarters.
Splendora paused and took a few breaths as if preparing herself for this. She pressed the chime and waited. Perhaps he would be asleep. She just turned when the door opened.
“Splendora! Hi.”
She turned. “Hi Rol.”
Rol raised an eyebrow. “Oh boy. You don’t look good. Come in.”
She said nothing just entered and without waiting to be offered a seat she collapsed in the chair at the glass table. Rol took the chair opposite her and stayed silent a moment. She wondered if he’d speak again and as if in response to her thoughts he did.
“So, do you want to talk or we can just sit here a while.”
She considered the offer and allowed a smile that did not reach her eyes. “No, I came to talk. I just don’t know where to start.”
Rol pursed his lips. “How about at the beginning.”
She sighed. “Yeah, how much time do you have?”
Rol smiled. “As much as you need. How about a drink?”
She shook her head. “No, but I’ll have a cake and some water.”
“Great,” Rol stood up. He knew her favored cake, “Raspberry Chocolate cake, two slices, two waters.”
The tray with the order shimmered into existence and Rol picked it up and carried it to the table. He put her slice and drink in front of her and then sat down with his own. “Alright. We’re all ready with the chocolate. Now tell me what has you so pensive and what caused that frown you have been walking around with since we left Hades.”
Splendora started on her cake, just two bites that she took and chewed and then she sighed. “Alright. You asked for it…”
