Personality & Traits

General Overview Jackson loves life, always willing to see the positives in people and situations rather than dwell on the negatives.  He is also the first to offer to help anyone in need, even those he barely knows and to put others ahead of himself.    He has an easy, bright smile that shows that behind the solid muscles there is actually a big softie inside - but cross a line and he is not shy and putting his foot down and making it clear who is in charge.  Aside from that he has a 'healthy body, healthy mind' mentality and will often be seen encouraging people to swap out the coffee for something healthier.
Strengths & Weaknesses Strengths:
Physical strength.  He works out regularly to maintain his physique.  Wonderful bedside manner.  Experienced in trauma medicine and surgery, as well as leading departments.Patient with colleagues and patients.

Weaknesses:
His somewhat relaxed attitude can give an impression that he is a push over, which some people try to take advantage of.  While he is quick to correct it, he nevertheless comes across as more of a friend than a boss.If he thinks someone is in harms way, especially his family, he can be quick to rush in without pausing to consider alternatives or plan ahead - lacking the calm and focus he has when in a sickbay.Physical strength - he has been in the bad books with his wife and children for breaking things by accident (usually an ornament or a toy).Random songs - he will often go about his day with a catchy song or jingle stuck in his head from whatever his kids have been watching on repeat for days on end.  As such those around him share his pain.
Ambitions Retire to a quiet spot in the countryside where it is nice and peaceful and he doesn't step on toy building bricks when he tries to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
Hobbies & Interests When not with his kids (which is most of his free time) he is in the gym working out. Yet undoubtedly his biggest interest is spending time with his kids and just enjoying their childhood days.

Personal History The youngest son of two Federation diplomats, Jackson was born on Vulcan and spent the first eight years of his life there before his parents were reassigned.  From then on, he was constantly moving around and being exposed to new cultures and traditions.  His friendships were many, but fleeting as they would have to move on within a matter of weeks.  As such, his best friend was undoubtedly his brother.
Together they were inevitably behind any mischief or shenanigans, much to their father's disapproval.   Their mother, however, was content to let them be and often said they would find their path eventually and it was best to let them just enjoy being children.
Jackson's path was all but decided when, aged eight, he had watched in horror as his brother fell from the upper level of the promenade.   In the blink of an eye his brother's laughter and boasting had turned into a scream, a sickening thud and then a moment of complete silence that haunted him even now.  Everything seemed to stop in that moment until screams from beneath him snapped him back to reality.
Only now he saw a sea of blue uniforms converging on his brother and through blurry eyes full of tears he watched on as the certainty that his brother was dead was replaced by something else.  Hope.  He had gripped the handrail, urging his brother to be okay as he watched the medical staff work miracles.  In the end he spend just a week in the medical bay, emerging looking none the worse for his brush with death.  But during that week, Jackson had never left his side, watching, studying and asking endless questions.  And, during dinner on the first night Kyle came home, his eight year old self had stood up and calmly announced that he wanted to become a doctor.

From then on, he had an obsession.  Wherever they went, his parents used their connections to let him spend time in the medical facilities.  While he wanted to be a doctor, he found he had the most fun when he was left to spend time with the technicians and the nurses and they gave him a true appreciation for the teamwork needed to keep a medbay running.

There was fewer shenanigans, more studying and he moved from being an 'average' student to a distinguished one.  Eventually he earned a place at Edinburgh University to study medicine but after taking a few years out to travel and explore Earth's many customs and traditions, Jackson instead he accepted an alternative offer.

At the age of 22, he soon found himself in San Francisco as part of the new enrolment of cadets.   He excelled in his studies but, perhaps more important to him, he found himself building strong friendships and relishing the chance to stay in one place for any significant period of time.  Most of the friends he made there remain good friends to this day.

Graduating as valedictorian, his opportunities were limitless and several people kept a close eye on his career.  Jackson had a path mapped out for himself, yet that all changed when he met his soon to be wife, Abigayle Edwards.

Their meeting was quite by chance during a birthday party for a mutual acquaintance.   He had been like a blubbering idiot as introductions had been made, like some lovesick teenager rather than a grown man.  She had been almost nineteen at the time and way out of his league.  He - half way to forty - had drowned any hopes in expensive whisky and went out of his way to never look in her direction for the rest of the night.

Which clearly did not work, when he found himself waking up in an unfamiliar bedroom with this stunning woman in his arms.  The rest was, as the say, history.  A brief courtship, an even briefer engagement and a lakeside wedding before he was due to ship out.

From then on, their whirlwind romance never seemed to stop and it was rare for them to be parted.  Something he attributes to their continually growing family.  In the last decade his focus has shifted, from career to family and led to him requesting assignments where he can keep his family close by and to give his children more stability than he had growing up.  As such, it has taken him longer to progress through his career path than he had anticipated.

His career brought him to SB400 as CMO, however, his assignment was cut short when he was personally asked by the admiralty to lead a medical response team aboard the USS Nightingale and oversea the subsequent recovery planning from a medical standpoint. Reluctantly he accepted and focused on his task, reluctantly leaving his family on the station.

The mission was challenging, albeit successful overall. Jackson, however, would not agree. After coming to blows with a parent refusing treatment for his child, he was officially reprimanded- with orders to attend counselling and a demotion to Lieutenant. While his work had otherwise been exceptionally good it was simply impossible to overlook despite the stress all parties were under.

Ordered to return to SB400 he knew it would not be as Department Head and facing the decision of what next for Jackson Blake?
