With everything that had happened of late Ariana hadn’t had much of a chance of checking in with Admiral Bremer. Making her way to his office she pressed the chime and waited for an answer.
"Enter." Mike called when the chime rang.
Walking in Ariana smiled warmly. “Admiral, I hope I’m not catching you at a busy time?
"Actually, I'm supposed to be aboard the Peg...Enterprise for a mission." Mike said as he was picking up PADDs. He looked up a the Counselor, "How can I help you?"
“Actually I was about to ask if there was anything I could do for you?” Ariana smiled warmly. “I haven’t had much chance to check in with you since you lost your wife. As Chief Counsellor it’s my job to make sure you’re coping.”
Mike took a breath, "I'm fine. It's war, many people lose wifes, husbands, parents, children, brothers, and sisters. Hopefully this mission we're about to undertake will end the war before Christmas."
Mike looked at the Counselor for a moment, "I thank you for looking in, but really, I'm fine."
Ariana nodded. “I know you’re a busy man at the moment Sir, it’s been a difficult time for us all but it’s helped ease tensions being back on the station. I haven’t seen you take a break at all as yet.”
Mike nodded, "No, there hasn't been time for a break yet. However if this operation is a success, the war will be over and then we can all get a much needed rest."
“True, but you can’t keep going on and on Admiral” Ariana offered a kind smile. “If you don’t get enough rest you’ll ultimately pay the price, we’ve lost so much already we don’t want to be losing you too.”
"Sometimes, sacrifices are needed." Mike replied, then added, "I promise to take a nap aboard the Enterprise enroute to our holding location." He offered a quick smile.
“Well I guess that’s something” Ariana smiled. “As for sacrifices you have several crew members here, not just me, who are expecting children. We would all like you to be here, fit and well to see the lives you’ve helped save.”
Mike paused for a moment, "I hope to see them too. They're the future we're trying to preserve and protect."
Ariana nodded in agreement. “Just promise me you’ll come and see me when you return to the station. That’s all I’m asking.”
"I'll do my best." Mike replied.
Ariana nodded. “So what’s happening that has you going off station so soon? Will the Fleet and the Mercy be required to go along?” She quietly hoped not as she’d barely had any time with Stacie recently.
Bremer replied, "The Mercy is staying here along with most of the Station's support ships." He paused a moment, then added, "We're going to win the war."
