A Short Ride in a Lift

Starbase 23 - Level 15 - Holodeck

Matthew waited at the turbolift. He had just come from playing on the holodeck with a new purchase he made. One of the shops here had a used Repulse bike. He bought it and with Commander Solomon's help when off-duty, they planned to restore it and get it working.

Matt was dressed in play clothes. A white t-shirt and jeans and some solid shoes. He was a little greasy from the work they had done on the Repulse motorbike but he was all smiles. He heard the doors open and looked up to see who was on the lift.

Outside the lift Ariana and Olivia were chatting about their day, minus any personal references to patients. As the doors opened they stepped inside both smiling politely at Plumeri. “Looks like someone has been having fun” Olivia grinned as she looked at him.

Seeing the pips on their collars, Matthew answered, "Commander, Lieutenant. Yes ma'am. It feels good to work with my hands every now and again." The doors closed behind him and there was a momentary pause, the lift was waiting for his destination to be input, "Oh!...docking bay twelve." The lift started to move. Matt recognized the Counselor he saw from before and said, "Nice to see you again Counselor. I haven't met you yet Lieutenant? I'm Matt Plumeri. Science department." His hands were a little dirty still so he said, "I'm a little greasy...I spare you the handshake?"

Olivia grinned. “I’m Olivia O’Riley, the newest member of the Counselling and marine departments. It’s nice to meet you Matt.”

“Looks like you’ve been fiddling with something mechanical?” Ariana looked at Matt curiously.

"Hey, I'm new too!" he smiled back at her. "Yeah, I was lucky, really lucky to find a used repulsorlift motorbike. Anti-grav motorcycle? It's an older Rinaldi make. Sweet ride when I get her all fixed up! Commander Solomon is helping me. Can you believe it? The Chief Engineer is helping me fix repulse bike. So awesome!" He wiped the grease and dirt from his bare arms and onto a towel. All the while happy as a clam. "So you are a Counselor to the Marines? That has got to be a job and a half ay?"

“Well actually I’m the marine medic and counsellor’s aide.” Olivia smiled. “It came as somewhat of a surprise to General Hurd when he was here, that a fleet officer was assigned as marine medic.”

Putting the hand cloth away in his butt pocket he said, "Probably doesn't matter what uniform you wear if you're helping get well. That's my thought anyway." He looked at her a moment, "What was your last name again Lieutenant? O'Riley? Do you know a Tim O'Riley?"

Olivia nodded. “I do indeed, TJ is my husband.”

Matt snapped his fingers, "Ah! I went skydiving with Timmy. Small galaxy huh?" He nodded, "We had a good ol' time. Come with next time ay?"

“I’m afraid I don’t go for leaping off platforms. Besides I have twins to look after.” Olivia grinned.

"Oh, yeah. He may have mentioned that. Well, it was holovid recorded so...yeah." He didn't know what to say. Thankfully, the opportunity to be more awkward never arose.

The turbolift slowed and then came to a stop. The dulcet computer voice announced, =A= Arriving at Docking Bay Twelve =A=.

Matt said, "Yup, this is me here. Well? Nice to meet you again Commander. Lieutenant. Say hi to O'Riley for me huh?"

“I will that’s a promise!” Olivia smiled.

He exited the lift and waved 'goodbye' as the doors closed. He needed a shower and some grub. He headed back to his shared junior officer quarters.
