Personality & Traits

General Overview Matthew Plumeri is a very likeable guy. He is good natured, he is curious and loves to learn. He is passionate about meeting and interacting with alien cultures and hopes one day to be on a first contact mission. He loves to laugh and enjoys a good joke. When it comes to work, he is very professional and he knows his history. He has a special fascination and love for ancient civilizations. That is probably because he comes from a planet that is rich with alien history. He was born on Fontalis in Serse, the capital. When he was 3 months old his mother became a Federation citizen having dual citizenship. His father, Tommasso, is fully Human. Matthew, his brother Nicholas and his sister Meredith are therefore ½ Human and ½ Fontalan. Fontalis is an out of the way planet located in the Alpha Quadrant 700 light years from the Barratae star cluster. He learned about and loved the rich history of his father's world (Earth) and of his home and considers himself a citizen of them both.
Strengths & Weaknesses STRENGTHS: Matt is a strong willed guy. He is clear and decisive but not arrogant. He can think clearly and logically and is very loyal to his friends. He is smart and curious and inquisitive by nature. He is a fun person to be around and everyone feels at ease around him. He has a great smile.

Technical Aptitude: Astrophysics - Gravitational wave theory “Gravitational Dissonance and the Expanding Universe” (published Starfleet Academy paper), Astrophysics – Archaeoastronomy, Daystrom Technical Institute student lecture series, “This is the Golden Age”. Matthew has a love for stars and celestial mechanics. He can look at the night sky and tell you about the stars in it. Better yet, he is a great storyteller about the galaxies and formations they are in. The best part is, he’s the guy you want when it’s campfire time on a dark open plain on a clear night.

Ancient and Alien Civilizations – University of Serse – Inter-world Exchange Credits for Archaeology – Sociocultural. Matthew excels at the study of people and places, how they lived, what they thought and what they did and how they lived. History is alive, and he can make the past come alive again. He has written a few articles for the DTI (Daystrom Technical Institute) and for several scientific journals. He is often asked for commentary and analysis for the Iconian, Yutalan and Trianni peoples.

Surprisingly, (some would say shockingly!) he is very good at handling himself on the bridge. One of his advisors commented that he, “…exhibits that ‘four-o’-clock’ in the morning calmness under pressure.”

WEAKNESSES: He doesn’t like disorganization and that can often trigger a flash of rage. Sometimes, he wears his emotions on his sleeve and he must work very hard on that. Sometimes, people see that duplicity in him and think he is “two-faced”. Professional and courteous to some and then angry and short-tempered with friends. It really is not being duplicitous - it really is about him being confident enough to not be “always on” with his friends.

Technical Inaptitude: Organic chemistry, Botany, Zoological and Exoarchaeology. It’s not that he doesn’t like the natural world. He loves it. He just is terrible with chemical formulas. He can spot a pretty rose but can’t tell you why it’s pretty, or hardy, or spiny. He likes animals but could never get it through his head the families. He frequently falters on ancient animals and creatures as well. Instead relying on the computer to perform the analysis for him. He has little patience for research if it isn’t either about the stars or about History. He never reads the manual and despises people who insist on a bookish approach to research. He is very much hands on a problem and dislikes a purely academic approach. Preferring to dive right into a problem. He doesn’t like lab duty, waiting for experiments to finish, applying for grants, signing up for computer time or attending long staff meetings. He often speaks his mind and that gets him into trouble. He puts his feet up on coffee tables, desks, office furniture and hates laundry day, preferring to throw everything into the replicator and hit the recycle button. He can, on occasion, rip loud belches and is guilty of leaving the toilet seat up.
Ambitions He really want to be on a first contact mission one of these days. He also wants to one day teach at the University of Serse back on Fontalis. He wants to share the intrigue and passion that is History.
Hobbies & Interests He loves to play Parressis squares and he was very good at the game while at Starfleet Academy. He even became Team Captain for the 2388-89 Academic Year. He enjoys holodeck stories and he has amassed quite a collection of famous battles from History. He does like to re-enact some of them with his friends. His entire collection is not all battles. Sometimes, he likes to re-enact very famous events like: Earth’s first contact, the Orion Treaty, the Khittimer Accords, the Dawn of the Talosan Empire or the first Federation colonial ship to his home on Fontalis. He plays trumpet, he loves music, he likes to work-out and keep in shape.
Languages Fontalan (Native), Standard & Triannii

Personal History Matthew Thomas Plumeri, was born in the Grand City of Serse on Fontalis on the First of Alessandro in 4756. Or, as his father would say, October 1st, 2368. His father, Tommasso Plumeri married his mother, a Fontalan native and her name is Yaniris. Tommasso, a Federation colonist, travelled from Earth to Fontalis, when Yaniris was pregnant, so that when Matthew was born he would be a naturalized Fontalan citizen having both Federation and Fontalan rights and privileges. Fontalis, is a provisional member world and so a few months after he was born Tommasso and Yaniris and older brother Nicholas, middle child, his sister Meredith, all made a permanent move to Fontalis. The Plumeri were one of three major patrician families - along with the Manli, the Fabi, and the Aemili that became the first wave of colonists to Fontalis. They all had an exemplary record of successful Starfleet service in the highest offices extending back at least to the early part of the 22nd century. Several ancestors were Federation consuls and then diplomats successively, and his great-grandfather, Mario Barbatus Plumeri, had been a Federation ambassador to the Caitian Empire in the 2280’s. His own family history had always been impressed upon him by his grandmother and his father. At the time that Matthew’s parents decided to leave Earth, the Plumeri’s were probably the most prominent branch of the family in the region, at least in the hindsight of the historians, who have only glowing reports of his family and his great-grandfather’s and grandfather’s career. So, there was and still is a lot of pressure on him to carry on the family name. Settle down and have a family and be just like all the other Plumeri family males.

Matthew is the youngest child, third born son of Tommasso Plumeri, Professor of Social and Cultural Literature and Federation provisional diplomat to the Fontalan government. His older brother, Nicholas Plumeri and a friend since boyhood,Anthony Laelius, serve in the Starfleet Marine Corps, both of whom were inspirational and motivational for Matthew to join Starfleet as well. There is no better way to see the universe than in Starfleet.

Matthew studied at some of the better educational institutions, and his parents were insistent that he learn about the local history of Fontalis and not just his own history. This has inspired him to become the man he is today. Driven and passionate about not just the past, but about the present and the future.

After graduating the Academy with a degree in Ancient and Alien Civilizations, Matthew was assigned to the Diplomatic Corps to help Starfleet Diplomats attend to the affairs of state with a historical perspective. He was there three months before being transferred to Deep Space Five. Two year later, he was assigned to a starship, the USS Illustrious. As far as Matt is concerned, that's when the adventure started. He was moved to where he should have been all along - the Science Department and stayed there working hard and excelling at his job. He followed the crew to the USS Nimitz after the Illustrious was destroyed. Another two years found him on Starbase 80 as the planet Cheron proved to be a treasure house of artifacts. Right up his alley of Ancient and Alien Civilizations.

A healthy individual overall. Except for his internal organs being in a slightly different arrangement, Matthew could pass for almost fully Human. He has a great delight when the doctors, who don't know his heritage, get that look on their face as they scan for his life signs.

Simming History Oh my stars...Ok now I show my age. My very first simming experience was with a group called Tango Fleet. Back in 1996, or 1997. I was with them a few years before I discovered Bravo Fleet. I had a character in Bravo Fleet a million years ago. I think the ship was...gosh...IDK now. The Gladiator? The Camelot? I played a Marine. I've been playing Marine characters for years until I joined up with the folks at Obsidian Fleet. Before I joined I took a break from simming to work at Warner Brothers Studios. That was the best job I have ever had and I didn't even know it. I did Sound Editing which was so cool!! Anyway, the Hollywood lot got sold and *poof!* there went my job. I returned to the game in 2005 and I joined up again with I think it was Pegasus Fleet? The USS Nogura and then the Gladiator. Marine character again and I loved it. I like to post and write a lot so someone suggested that I checvk out Obsidian Fleet and a simm run by a guy called Matthew Snow. His James Hurin character ran a ship called the Illustruious, the the Nimitz, then Starbase 80 then the Camelot. The GM, Matt, took a break to get married and he hasn't come back. I joined Jay's simm the Galileo in Theta Fleet because his site is really cool. And I like Jay. But his simm is too slow for me. I'm looking for an active sim with a bunch of players who want to write. I never thought I'd have the chops to play on one of your Bremer sims. Maybe I still don't - I aim to find out. Got room for one more?
How did you hear about Starbase 400 I was looking for an active sim on Bravo Fleet's website. I found a few but they are PG13 rated. I can do a PG13 sim just fine. But the higher more adult rated ones are a bit easier. Language and Violence and such. Anyway, I saw how many players you have and I saw that you guys post frequently. I'd like to join up and see if I can bring some life to this character of mine and add to your collective goodness and quality. I've still got a lot fo story I want to explore with my character.
