Mission:
Episode 106 – Stalemate
Location: SB 23
Timeline: 30 minutes after arriving at SB23
Cameron stood in the middle of the engineering section of the SS Dakota, sparks were still popping off of consoles and most of the ships power systems were fried. He had pushed the old girl he knew it and so did every person on the ship. Warp 7 was supposed to be her max warp but a old ship like the dakota could not hold it as long as the specs said she should be able to. As a result half the ships systems had shorted out on their mad run from SB400 and the rest had blown just after they dropped out of warp.
He knew the damage report without having to look at it. Her warp core was shot the manifolds had dozens of fractures in them, how they held togather he would never know it could only have been a higher power. The anti matter pods had been ejected as soon as they arrived and they blew up moments later. The bridge was a wreck with blown out panals and he was lucky to still be alive. He knew that everything that was wrong with the old girl could be fixed given enough time and money but sometimes it was just time to let go. The Dakota was a fine ship and they had covered a good many sectors togather but it was time to let the old girl rest in peace.
Cameron rolled onto the bridge one last time and looked around to make sure nothing was left that he wanted to keep. Seeing nothing there he walked back to the small cabin he had claimed with his daughter for the trip. Stacie did not fully understand what had happened and to her it was just a trip with daddy which was something she had never been able to do before. Looking around the cabin he picked a couple of pictures and one picture of her hands and feet that she had so seriously presented to her daddy in her own way. He folded them up and put them in his travel case. Seeing that the rest of the cabin was empty he spoke for the first time since everyone had disembarked.
"Well old lady you did good we made it to safty and you held togather just like the trooper I knew you were. I am only sorry that we could not have many more years togather but you gave everything you had and no captain could be more proud of his ship then I am of you." Said Cameron softly. "I am going to remember you though the next ship I get will have your name and registry number I will never forget you old friend." He added as he took the bridge plaque off the bulkhead and spoke again.
"Starbase 23 this is SS Dakota one to beam over." Said Cameron he was on the station seconds later and looking out the view port toward his ship. Fair winds and following seas old lady." he said as a number of small explosions rocked the ship surprising everyone "Guess you and are were more alike then I thought we both would choose death before retirement." Said Cameron as he turned away from the view port. Right now he needed a stiff drink then he would see if he could talk to the admiral and try to get a new ship.
THough the second part of that could wait he had a little girl waiting in their temporary quarters that he needed to see and make sure she was safe or her mom would likely kill him.
