Mission:
Episode 106 – Stalemate
Location: Starbase 23
Timeline: Ep 106 - MD1 - 0800hrs
ON:
Starbase 23 was a Regula Type 3 Starbase station, much like Starbase 88 and 375. In orbit was a fleet of ships. All of Starbase 400's remaining support ships, a handful of civilian vessels, and several ships of the Second Fleet.
Bremer had been given an office on Level 201 and he'd spent the night there. In the month since the evacuation of Starbase 400, Mike had thrown himself full time into his work. Reports, mission planning, and evaluating intel filled his days and most of his nights.
After the attack on Starbase 400, most of the surviving Typhon Pact ships had left the area. Fighting around DS6 was still intense, but thanks to the successful attack on RDB8, successful defense of DS6, and the fighting retreat from SB400 the Typhon Pact had suffered tremendous losses. It had given time for Starfleet and the Klingons to recover some of their losses. The war, for all intents and purposes had ground to a halt.
The door chime sounded but Mike didn't move. It chimed again, and this time Mike grunted as he slowly blinked his eyes. That ninety minute nap just wasn't enough. Slowly he sat up, stood, and stretched. Mike walked over to the door and unlocked up. The person standing there wasn't who Mike expected to see.
"You look like shit dad." Becca said with a smile.
"Hey baby girl." Mike said as he smiled and hugged his daughter. "What are you doing here?"
"My training at the Denobula Medical Institute was over last week. I hitched a ride aboard the USS Gatlinburg and arrived this morning." Becca explained.
"I'm glad you're here. Want to get something to eat?" Mike asked.
"Sure, but only after you shower and get a clean uniform on."Becca said with a smile.
Mike nodded. "I'll meet you aboard the Pegasus, my quarters, in thirty minutes."
USS Pegasus, Deck 12, Tactical Astrometerics
Draven was looking over the latest downloads from Starfleet Intelligence. His mind wasn't fully on his duties though. He kept looking over at Ann. Ann Davis served aboard the Pegasus as the Chief Security/Tactical Officer near the end of the Dominion War and just after. She and Draven formed a quick relationship and married. However when Draven had been assigned to infiltrate the Trytonians and the marriage ended. They had tried to reconcile after Draven returned, but it didn't work out. Ann had later been promoted from Chief Security/Tactical aboard the USS Boston to Executive Officer of the USS Longfellow. Just before the SB400 evacuation, she was to take over command of the USS Gatlinburg but the ship had taken longer in the repair yard than planned so she had stayed with the doomed ship and was rescued by the USS Pegasus. Now, with the USS Gatlinburg here at SB23, she knew her time with Lek was coming to an end.
"Dinner tonight?" Draven asked.
"I can't." Ann replied with sadness in her voice. "The Gatlinburg arrived today. We're due to depart by 2100 hours."
Draven nodded, he already knew. "Then we'll do a late lunch."
Ann smiled, "Sounds good. And you can tell me all about the goings on around Desica. That's where we're going."
Draven nodded. There was a lot of fighting around Desica. It was closed to DS6 and had been the location of some of the most savage fighting in the last few weeks.
USS Yorktown, Bridge
K'Temoc was looking over the repair reports from Starbase 23's yard master. It was nice to have the Yorktown, as well as all of the other SB400 ships, repaired and back to fully operational status.
Plus, some of the losses had been replaced. A recently commissioned Sovereign class ship had been renamed USS Saratoga and assigned to reply the previous Akira class USS Saratoga lost during the attack on RDB8. Also assigned was a new Defiant class ship renamed to USS Laffey to replace the one destroyed in the Triangle.
Over the last few days, K'Temoc had been talking with members of Starfleet Command about getting more assets into the Beta Quadrant. With the war in the Alpha Quadrant all but over, now was time to plan a final push toward victory.
USS Vanguard
"How are you guys feeling?" MacLeod asked as Tezu and Tenu as they returned to duty.
Tezu, an Edosian moved his middle arm around, "Still a little sore, but I'm fine."
Tenu nodded, "I am also fine, the burns were treated and have healed well." The Kelpien looked over at this station to see it back online and ready.
USS Kearsarge
Lennox, now with a silver bird on his collar, checked over a ship readiness report.
"Colonel, here's the latest personnel report. We're still waiting on word about General Ross, but the rest of the Division's personnel are ready." Ermey reported.
"And how are you?" Lennox asked.
"Me? Sir, I'm an old warhorse that ain't quite ready to be put out to pasture." Ermey smirked.
Lennox smirked, "Get with Lieutenant Taz, I want battle drills daily. Ship and Station boarding and defense as well as ground assault."
"Understood skipper." Ermey replied.
USS Lexington, Engineering
"Did it work?" Stark asked.
"Prelim simulations were promising. We're going to field test tomorrow. If they're successful too, we can take it to the Admiral." Wayne replied.
"Good, keep me posted." Stark replied.
Commander Stark left engineering and returned to the Bridge. Out the main viewer Stark watched the new USS Saratoga pass by along with the USS Kearsarge, USS Princeton, and USS Constantinople.
"Ensign, how did the upgrades to the weapons systems go?" Stark asked.
"Work completed Commander." K'Wor handed a PADD to Stark, "Phaser power was improved by five percent and recharge time was reduced by three percent."
"Good work. Now why don't you take a little time off. You're sister arrived aboard the Gatlinburg today didn't she? Go see her." Stark patted K'Wor on the shoulder then walked off reading the PADD.
USS Pegasus, Ten-Forward
The joint was hoping and Tom smiled. Several crew members coming off the night shift were in here getting a drink and a late dinner. Tom had turned one of the storage rooms into a make-shift kitchen. He'd also added a piano to one of the corners near the windows and one of the crew was playing an upbeat song.
"Did you get it?" Tom asked Vito as he walked in.
Vito nodded, "I did and it'll be here in a few days."
Tom nodded. "Thank you."
"Don't thank me, it costs enough. We had to promise a couple of deals would get gone after all the shooting it over." Vito replied.
Tom smirked, "No doubt."
