Ariana stood for a moment completely flabbergasted at the outburst Hades had come out before shaking it off and looking at Carolyn, who was already heading for the door herself, not that she could blame her. "Carolyn ... Wait!"

One foot out of the door, so close to that feeling of freedom, Carolyn took a deep breath as she turned back. While not entirely thrilled at being cornered into sitting down with Hades, or the disaster it had turned into, she reminded herself it had been what her friend felt she had to do.

"Please come back, talk to me for a minute" Ariana looked at her friend offering a smile, hoping she hadn't pushed their friendship too far.

“That depends,” Carolyn said cautiously as she looked around the room, “you haven’t hidden my grandmother anywhere in here to make this day even better do you?”

Ariana shook her head and smiled. "Absolutely not!" She motioned Carolyn over to the sofa. "I never knew about the relationship between Harris and Hades, I understand what you've been going through more now. I'm just sorry that Hades worded what he said so cruelly."

“I asked for it. As for Harris, I didn’t know until Hades finally told me. Harris never knew,” Carolyn said as she stood behind the sofa. She frowned, her eyes narrowing, “you think I am over-reacting?”

"If you'd have asked me that question earlier I'd have said yes, but now ... I'm not so sure." Ariana shrugged her shoulders. "I'm giving Hades the benefit of the doubt here, he's done a lot for me but I have one question I need answered." She paused. "Why didn't Adari tell me I was pregnant? I had a full body scan to start with and further tests and no one mentioned it once."

Not sure. Carolyn straightened, having her answer. “I don’t know why,” Carolyn admitted. “I never saw your scans or I would have told you. I can’t imagine her not knowing.... the technology was way beyond our own. Hades is the person you should ask, he knows her. But I’m sure your baby is fine. Dr Kelley could run a detailed scan at your first checkup if you are worried?”

"I don't really have a reason to be worried, listening to you and Hades he did what he did to help you. I don't have any problems conceiving and he'd have no reason to need to do anything for me, besides what he already did helping me with the 'other' me!" She shrugged her shoulders. "I'm just being a little paranoid, plus I'm missing Stacie and Cameron!"

“You’ll be back with them soon. Anything else?”

"An apology ... I'm sorry I was so hard on you bringing you here. I just hope it's not been too harsh on you."

There was an understatement. Carolyn sighed, “I just don’t appreciate feeling cornered like that. It’s happened so many times in rooms just like this. Hades... he can think what he likes. I can’t control him or how he feels about things. I’m going to need that space I mentioned though.. no more of this please.”

"Of course" Ariana nodded. "I could use a rest myself, not feeling that great. Early onset of morning sickness I think, that and the fact that I'm tired." She offered a smile. "I'll let you go and get some rest and peace but if you need me, you know where to find me okay?"

“Ha! If I ever find either of those again, I’ll be sure to let you know,” Carolyn commented as she headed out.
