Mission: Episode 105 – Evacuation
Location: USS Mercy Sickbay
Timeline: MD1 1830 hrs

Ariana walked into Sickbay, making her way across to where Kaden was resting. She’d come to visit but she also had some news to share and an offer to make to stave off boredom. “Hey” She smiled warmly as she walked over to his bedside. “How are you both?” She kept her voice low so as not to disturb Freya who was sleeping in a put up cot at Kaden’s bedside.

Kaden was in the middle of reading the art of war by Sun Tzu brushing up on his military tactics. "Right now? I'd kill to go home hate being stuck here." He picked up a glass of water and looked at Ariana.

She nodded. “Actually I have some news to share and an offer to make you provided Freya will allow it!” She grinned. “Doctor Hades has confirmed that ... I’m pregnant!”

Kaden was in the middle of taking a sip when she broke the news. The revelation was such a shock he spat the water out onto a passing medical technician as he coughed a little his face turning a bit blue.

"Wow! That wasn't quite the response I expected." She picked up some tissues and passed them to Kaden so he could wipe his mouth. "Now take a deep breath and breath!" She shook her head.

Kaden set his water down and took the tissues taking deep breaths. "Ariana, I am sorry but...didn't you JUST have a kid? I mean...I remember us always saying we take time to enjoy one before doing another." He said before pointing to Freya next to him. " I mean...that is how we planned it." The large Marine was rather uncertain right now. "Look, I am not certain about your new man and all but I never plan on treating you and Freya like breeding stock so to speak."

"Everyone is different Kaden" Ariana offered a smile. "Cameron is a man who wants a big family, and I'm happy to provide him with that family. Besides, if I hadn't have had a miscarriage I'd have two children already, in which case I probably would have waited for longer before having anymore children. As it is I want another baby, to have a chance to experience a pregnancy that isn't full of drama! I'm hoping all will go well this time."

Kaden sat in silence for a moment he didn't like the idea of Ariana always being barefoot and pregnant. But as she said everyone was different who was he to say otherwise. "Look, it is not my place to tell you what to do nor do I have a right to. If this what you truely desire in your life. Then...do what makes you happy." He sulked down in his bed frowning. Kaden never liked to the idea of lots of kids cause he always felt ladies like Freya and Ariana should never feel like livestock.

"It's that livestock idea isn't it?" Ariana smiled as she looked at Kaden. "I promise you Cameron does not see me as livestock!" She took a seat on the edge of his bed. "We discussed about having children and he told me up front that he was a man who wanted a big family. You know me and kids! I don't plan on going from one pregnancy to the next and the next, after this little one I plan on taking some enjoy my children before I have anymore." She placed her hand gently on Kaden's. "I do appreciate you caring and watching out for me though."

"Should I not be?" Kaden asked.

Ariana smiled. "I don't mind if Freya doesn't mind. How are you feeling about being a father now?"

Kaden rested his hands on his chest then interlaced his fingers as he took a moment to think. "Right now, I am more concerned about trying to walk again." He looked at Freya next to him. "Last I ever want is her is having to care for not only a baby but a broken husband too."

Ariana nodded. “I can understand that. If there’s anything I can do then please let me know. I’ll schedule a counselling appointment for you once all this settles down, hopefully we’ll get our station back.” She sighed. “I hate being away from Stacie and Cameron!”

Kaden placed his hand on Ariana's. "Hey, relax, Cameron may not be much of a talker well least when I met him but I am sure he and your kid are fine." He assured her.

“I know” she nodded. “Cameron would never let anything happen to Stacie. It’s just ... I’ve spent so much time away from them both lately! I swear when we get home I’m taking some vacation time with them both.”

"I don't mind putting my counseling on hold for a little while if need be." Kaden told her with a grin.

"Oh really?!" Ariana grinned. "Well it'll give you extra time to spend with your lovely wife!"

Kaden glanced at Freya still sleeping next to him. "I spend plenty with her not that I am complaining but could use the time try to walk again." He told her.

"Just don't push yourself too hard okay? It'll take time to get fit again and you'll do more harm than good if you force it." Ariana offered a warm smile. "Just take your time okay?"

Kaden sighed as he looked his legs. "I know but...I can't stand the idea of, Freya, having to care for me if I am unable to walk. Not just that but possibly being forced to retire from Starfleet cause of it as well...I'd be miserable." He confessed.

"Trust me, that's not going to happen!" Ariana gave her friend a reassuring smile. "You will walk again Kaden, you just have to have faith and be willing to work hard at it."

Kaden shrugged his shoulders. "I suppose you are right I shouldn't just focus the idea I will be this way forever. I mean I was able to recover from almost dying when I was a kid after all." He replied.

"Exactly" Ariana nodded. "You're stronger than you give yourself credit for Kaden. Remember that!"

"I certainly try to." Kaden replied

Ariana nodded. "I should be getting back, get some rest you're going to need it." She smiled. "There's a long road of recovery ahead of you my friend.

Kaden grabbed his glass of water and took a sip. "Don't remind me..." He paused and watched Ariana sit up to leave. "Hey, before you go I just wanted say I am happy for you on the kid hope it is a boy."

"Funnily enough, me too!" Ariana smiled warmly. "Tell Frey I said hello."

"Will do." Kaden replied.

Ariana nodded and with that she headed on her way.
