Mission: Episode 102 - The Rising Tide of War
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD2 1500 hours

Ignoring everyone else around her, Professor Elise Corrigan stormed through the medical bay with her gaze very much fixed upon the door to Doctor Hades' office. Oh, the computer had very kindly and politely told her where she could find the Chief Medical Officer, as computers were often inclined to do. Yet when asked what should have been an equally simple question? Unable to comply.

Without waiting to press the chime or announce her presence, the physician and scientist entered the personal domain of Hades' himself. The man she knew to be behind the withdrawal of research approval for not only her current project, but for her upcoming research proposals. And, she suspected, for being behind the computer's selective moments of stupidity.

Her own vessel would have had no such issues, yet until it returned she was somewhat at the mercy of the rather limited facilities aboard this station.

"Where," she almost snarled the word as she came to a standstill opposite his desk, "is my granddaughter?"

Hades raised an eyebrow. "Safe. Being cared for. Being healed." He had been in the middle of reading reports when the tornado brushed in.

“First, your Doctor Harris throws me out of her hand room, refusing visitors. And now she is not even there,” Elise said as she gestured towards the general direction of ICU. “You may not know but I found her. She was in her bed. And she was gone! Thankfully we were in time but we did not know that.

I helped to resuscitate her before your lapdog Dr Mendez arrived. I will not just take your word for it. Now, I ask again. Where is she?”

"Safe." He leaned back and spoke to her in a calm manner "While you may have assisted in reviving her I have a feeling that her state was something to do with you. I even have it on Betazoid authority that you, madam, are hiding something."

“Hardly,” Elise retorted, appearing amused at the notion. “You made your conditions quite clear. Aside from dinner and an occasional cup of tea, we have not spoken. She has been far too preoccupied worrying about you and I have been somewhat busy myself. I’m curious - what am I accused of exactly? And your evidence, beyond a feeling?”

He studied her much like a spider would a fly. "Well for instance the company you keep. Green blooded variety."

"Doctor Hades," she replied, shaking her head as she laughed, "if you check you will see I have three Vulcan's on the station right now as part of my research staff. While I do not exactly trust the Vulcan government, they are excellent scientists. I hardly would have suspected you would find inclusion a bad quality."

"Well lets lay a few things out. One is that your granddaughter had enough sedative for it to be lethal. I checked the stores and none of our medication is missing so not a sedative that came from us. One of my doctors personally destroyed Carolyn's stash of sedative. She also had defensive wounds namely under her nails DNA that was identified as half Romulan and half Vulcan." There was other things that he was keeping from her like Carolyn's pregnancy. He'd play that card if necessary. "Do you know anyone that would fit that description?"

“I do not demand my staff provide a full genetic history,” Elise quipped. “I can have them report to you, if you wish, and you can scan away. Or share what you have and I will deal with it myself. As for the sedative, I am sure Carolyn can be quite resourceful.”

"She didn't do this. I am sure of it. I have had a friend of mine investigating and his report is that this was done to her. She was safe before you hit this station. While I doubt you injected her perhaps one of your staff got the dosage wrong or used you to get to her because of what happened on Vulcan. Either way you are here and I do not want to risk her life so I have made sure she is safe." He studied the woman and decided to twist the knife. "Whoever this was almost cost two lives."

“I don’t understand,” the woman conceded after a slight hesitation. “Who else? And what do you mean, what happened on Vulcan?”

"Your granddaughter was on Vulcan it appears that someone used a mind block on her. She remembers nothing of her time there. As for what I mean Carolyn is pregnant. So whoever injected her could have killed the child. Now since the father is a First Federation Citizen so is the child. When I find out who injected her I will capture them and send them straight to the First Federation I don't care if they are a Starfleet Citizen. So, you granddaughter and Great Grandchild are fine and cared for at the moment. While you are on the station they will be well cared for and if I find your staff is responsible for this it will not make me happy."

Elise paled as she digested the news. “You are certain?” she asked after a long silence. “After losing her first baby she was told another pregnancy was all but impossible...”

She sighed. “I know nothing about her trip to Vulcan. However ... While I have no hard evidence, I doubt it is coincidence that Mr Stavek has disappeared off the face of the Earth. So to speak.”

It was not entirely true, she knew with certainty he was responsible. “He has been on my staff for almost two years. Am I to assume that is where she has been taken? The First Federation? To what end?”

"For now it is enough to know she's not on the station." He said choosing his words carefully. "She has been taken where she has been taken because of medical care that is far advanced then Starfleet has. They will recover her memory and since this is a high risk pregnancy they have a better chance of getting her through it." He steepled his fingers. "Tell me about Stavek.

“Earth has many specialists and it is her home,” Elise pointed out, glaring before she sighed. The First Federation. Reyas would not be happy. “Stavek joined my staff almost two years ago. A personal recommendation from Professor Langdon.”

"She stays where she is. As for Stavek a word of advice if I may."

“I’m sure I will get it anyway,” Elise sighed, “so please do go on.”

"Don't get too attached to Mr. Stavek. He may not be working for you for long. Especially if I find out he's to blame. I will, of course, investigate you as well."

In an instant, Elise’s expression hardened. “Do not threaten me, Doctor. Many have tried,” she said with undeniable coldness in her voice.

"I do not make threats, Madam. If you do indeed care about your granddaughter the if Stavek is to blame then you should be livid about it and be ready to vent him out of the airlock yourself. If however, he was acting on your orders you'd be very protective of him. So which is it?"

“If Stavek is to blame, you need not worry. He will be taken care of. Like I believe I have stated before, I take care of my family. Do not make the mistake of thinking my bark is worse than my bite.”

He raised an eyebrow. "Well then. I suppose we'll both we launching our own investigation or shall we work together?"

“I doubt you would trust me enough for that,” Elise commented. “And I do not believe my ... associate... would thank me for agreeing to it. He doesn’t play well with Section. I assume it is Mr Nivar who is assisting you.”

He grinned, "Along with a few others. I will handle the Starfleet part of this. We will have to report this to the Admiral."

“That would fall within your remit, not mine,” Elise told him. She sighed, the sound entirely weary. “Am I to assume your Mr Nivar would share anything with you that he uncovers? I understand he has quite the reputation.”

"He will indeed."

“Very well,” the woman sighed. “I detest Chinese whispers so perhaps you and Mr Nivar would be so kind as to arrange somewhere we can speak freely. Without the risk of being overheard. Then I can share with you some information which may help us piece this together.”

He gave a nod. "I'll make the arrangements and then contact you."

“Very well,” Elise nodded, turning on her heels and leaving without another word.
