Mission:
Episode 100 - A Hatred of Atonement
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD3, 1130 hours
OOC: I wanted to go ahead and get this going! Get my physical and psych eval done since I just got back from Vulcan! :P
Coleman had arrived to Starbase 400 mere moments ago and had gotten checked over by the Flight Deck Officer before being allowed to board the Starbase. He was required to check into Sickbay before being allowed to completely come aboard and report to Admiral Bremer. Having been new to the station, Coleman was unsure of the location of Sickbay, so he walked over to a wall mounted station to confer with the main computer of the quickest route to sickbay.
"Computer, display the most direct route to Sickbay," Coleman said, waiting for the computer to display the route. It took mere seconds for the computer to show the information and Coleman knew that he would have to hop onto the nearest turbolift and head down to Deck 700 in the Habitat and Residential ring of the Starbase.
Smiling as he turned the display off, Coleman walked over to the turbolift at the end of the hallway and entered as a crewmen stepped off. He ordered the turbolift down to Deck 700, Main Sickbay as it zoomed down several hundred decks from the docking port to his destination. The turbolift stopped several times to allow other crewmen to come on and off along the route, but before long, the turbolift stopped and the computer voice came over the intercom and said, "Level 700, Main Sickbay and Medical Offices."
Stepping off the lift and into the sterilized medical facilities, Coleman was amazed at the facilities that the Starbase offered. From what he read before leaving Vulcan, the Starbase could treat over 10,000 patients if the need arose and he could see why. However, Coleman didn't want to gauck too much, as he needed to see if he could find one of the medical officers and counselors to do all the evaluations, so he could finally report for duty.
Walking over to an officer wearing the medical blue uniform, with the rank of Lieutenant Commander, he tapped his shoulder and said, "Umm, I'm Commander Coleman. I was told to report to Sickbay for mental and physical evaluation. I didn't know who I needed to report to and was wondering who I might be able to talk to about getting this all started?"
Ariana had been lying in her bed, being away from her baby she let her mental barriers down some to get a sense on how Stacie was doing. The connection between herself and her tiny daughter was still a strong one. With her ‘barriers’ down she picked up on the thoughts of someone who was looking to get a medical and psych evaluation done. Closing her mind back off to accidental outer input she motioned to one of the nurses to ask a favour.
Hades had been engrossed in a new technical manual for a new toy that had been obtained. Through the huff and puff of what happened to the station it was all lost until now. Thankfully the equipment hadn't been damaged. He sensed a presence so the tap didn't alarm him. He turned and put the PADD down. "Hello Commander. I'm Doctor Hades. I can help with the medical part." He held out his hand. "Duty orders please."
As though a lightbulb had gone off, Coleman stuck a finger in the air before reaching in his bag for a PADD with his transfer orders. Scouring around, it took a few moments for him to find the desired PADD, as he was carrying several of them from his trip from Vulcan and Starbase 316. Finally finding it, he handed it to the doctor and said, "Lieutenant Commander Nicholas Coleman, Chief Science Officer. Serial Number SP-540-A-21906. I had a small bout with the Vulcan Flu about a week before leaving Vulcan, but nothing other physically besides that."
Before Hades could speak Ariana appeared alongside Coleman in a wheelchair she’d managed to procure. “Commander Coleman?” She smiled politely. “I’m Ariana Monroe, Chief Counselor.”
Hades turned towards Ariana. "What are you doing out of bed?"
Ariana looked a little guilty. “I had my mental barriers down when the Commander arrived in Sickbay, the need to get a medical and get a psych evaluation done was pretty strong and I picked up on it as he went by.” She gave Hades an even more guilty look. “I know I’m sorry! I’m supposed to be resting!”
"You are." He motioned for a nurse. "Valentine. Take her back to her room. Take away the wheel chair." He leveled a finger at her. "You are due to be released tomorrow. Out of bed one more time and you're in here for a week. Stay in bed and I will consider releasing you tomorrow. As for the commander here. You can speak with him but he'll visit you after."
He took the PADD from Coleman. "Vulcan Flu isn't that serious. Please have a seat on the bio bed and I shall review your records."
Ariana nodded politely to Coleman before nodding to nurse Valentine, who was looking like she was stuck in the middle of an argument and not knowing which way to go. “I’ll see you soon Commander.”
Hades held back a sigh of relief when Ariana left. Did nobody listen to him anymore? He downloaded what was on the PADD into the computer, entered his clearing code and reviewed it. "Commander how are you feeling at this moment? Any residual head fog or any sharp aches in the muscles?"
Commander Coleman watched all of this happen and couldn't help but smile. As he jumped up onto the bio bed and heard Hades asked about his residual head fog and sharp aches, he thought about it for a moment and said, "No, nothing more than usual. As for head fog, I did get a little lost in thought on the way from Starbase 316 to here, but nothing serious. I just have a lot on my mind though."
"Lost in thought is fine. Head fog is different it just shuts you down." He ran his tricorder over the commander and made a few notations. "I will give you a series of vaccinations specially designed for this region. They will help keep you healthy when you visit the planet below and they help protect against he everyday radiation. I also see that you are due for a full systems work up. If you will lay back I will begin that while I prepare the shots. So tell me why Starbase 400."
Laying back, Coleman said, "Well, I'd been working on Vulcan at the Vulcan Science Academy for some time. So, I thought it was time for a change and looked around the quadrant to see this lovely base had an opening for a Chief Science Officer. That and my brother told me about you guys from when he was onboard. He said that you guys were a good bunch. How about you? Why Starbase 400?"
He shrugged, "It's far enough away to be remote but not far enough to be uncivilized." He smiled. "Make sense?"
"Yeah, it definitely makes sense. Plus, it makes for an interesting job," Coleman said with a chuckle. Looking back up at the Doctor, he smiled and said, "Well, how am I looking?"
"Everything is looking good," he said twisting the first vial into the hypo. He held it up. "This has all that you need. I will need you to lay back. These have a side effect of dizziness but it only last about five minutes."
The hypo hissed out its contents. "Alright. While you are laying back do you have anything specific to tell me about?"
"Besides the fit of Vulcan Flu, nothing really. It wasn't the best having it, but it's about the only thing I've had recently," Coleman said as he laid back and began to feel the dizziness of the medicine as it worked its way through his system.
"Alright then. Rest here, I will update your records. When ready Nurse Tompson will take you to see the counselor.
"Thank you Doctor! Thank you for everything!" Coleman said, smiling as he watched the doctor walk away and get his records straight.
As Coleman finished up with Dr. Hades, he jumped off the bed and walked over to a private room and pressed the comm panel to let the door ring, waiting to hear a response. Once he heard someone say come, he walked into the room and saw the woman from earlier. He slightly bowed his head before stepping in closer.
"You said you were the Chief Counselor for the Starbase? So, I take it that you can do my psych evaluations for me, so I can be cleared to start my duties?" Coleman asked with a smile upon his face. From what he saw earlier, Coleman had a feeling that him and Ms. Monroe would get along rather nicely.
“Well I can but I wouldn’t normally do it from a bed in Sickbay!” She grinned as she motioned him to a nearby chair. “Grab a seat, the reason I offered is because Petty Officer Ross is currently in Sickbay and Lieutenant Rol has his hands full fitting in all our appointments. Plus you seemed eager to get your evaluation done and out of the way.”
"Well, since you were already here, I thought I'd go ahead and get it all done and over with! Plus, that way, we can get my physical and psych done before meeting up with the admiral," Coleman said as he took the seat across from the counselor.
“So tell me about you” She tapped the PADD that was on her lap as she made herself comfortable.
"Well, there's a lot to know about me. What do you want to know?" Coleman asked, curious as to where to begin. He hadn't had a psych evaluation since his time aboard Starbase One and Deep Space Two. Counselors back in those days were a new concept for Starfleet, but gained popularity rather quickly. So, this was a rather welcomed change.
“Well according to your file here, there have been times when you’ve been spoken to regards your temper and dare I say the word ‘bullheaded?” She smiled as she looked at him. “Do you often have problems with your temper or does it take something to trigger it?”
"Well, it happens when I'm passionate about something or someone. If someone tries to harm a family member or someone I truly care about, I can become bullheaded or if I believe in something and nobody gives me the time of day, my temper can flare a bit. However, it's nothing that's ever truly gotten in the way of my duty or anything. Just something that has been seen before my counselors in Starfleet," Coleman said, thinking back to the years since he started in Starfleet.
"To be honest I don't see anything in your personnel file or previous Counselling records that concerns me" Ariana smiled warmly. "You have a lot more years of life experience than the majority of us."
"Well, that's what being born into the Eugenics Wars and living to see the destruction of your second homeworld by the Borg will do. All that has happened in my life has helped me to make sure to live my life in the best way possible," Coleman said with an equally bright smile on his face.
" Given all that you've been through in that time it's a credit to you that you're as clear and level headed as you are." Adriana smiled warmly. " I'm happy to clear you for duty straight away. " She signed off his file. "Welcome aboard Starbase 400."
Getting up, Nick was rather elated. Shaking the Counselor's hand, he thanked her before hearing that all senior staff were requested in the Admiral's Quarters for a meeting about the upcoming meeting. Heading out, he made his way there.
