The morning had started out like any other morning. Splendora had awoken, showered, dressed, eaten breakfast and headed to work. For the most part the morning meeting had been routine with discussing the days treatments and talking about various staff vacations. The meeting ended on a high note and then she'd retreated to her office to work a bit before her first appointment, an elderly couple wanting to spice up their marriage by traveling the galaxy.
She smiled a little the thought of them. Sighing she started reading the other files for the day. About twenty minutes in she started feeling sick. Taking some tea she ignored the symptoms until it felt as if she was having trouble drawing air.
She looked at herself in the mirror and noted the paleness of her skin. She's seen this before so this time...she chose to ignore it.
==Outside in the front of the centre==
The receptionist looked up as a tall shadow crossed the desk. She smiled. "Mr. Vito! Good to see you. How can I help you today?"
"Is Splendora in?" Vito asked.
She smiled but a half smile. "She is. She has a bit free why don't you go on back...But...a warning. She's not looking too good this morning."
Vito raised an eyebrow as he walked back. He looked around for a moment until he saw Splendora.
"Are you feeling alright?" Vito asked as he looked her over.
Splendora thinned her lips. "The usual...Nivar says this is normal." She smiled. She hadn't seen much of Vito. "Come in. I have some time before my appointment. How have you been. I haven't seen you in weeks." She walked on shaky legs to the replicator. "Anything to drink?"
"No thank you." Vito replied, "I apologize I haven't stopped by sooner. With Tom away I've been managing the restaurant and keeping up with all of the inventory orders, as well as hosting."
Vito walked around the room for a moment, "Is that guy still bothering you, or just 'mentoring'?"
She smiled, "I've made my peace with Nivar. He's...told me a lot about what I will go through. He's like me...went through it." She hadn't talked to Tom about this and Nivar was sure that time was approaching quickly. "I really should tell what's going on. Tom...he might not understand. Maybe it's better that he's not here." She held her water glass, frosted over from cold, with both hands and walked slowly to compensate for her shaking hands. It seemed things were getting worse. "Have a seat." She said.
Vito cocked his head to the side, 'this doesn't sound good' he thought. He took a seat, "Tell me the truth."
She smiled, "Truth it is....it was a bitter pill to swallow." She reached over and set the glass down after she'd downed a few sips. "Nivar tells me it's almost time. I have had...over the last few weeks several organs shut down and restart...it hasn't been a picnic. Now I draw closer to the change and that is when I will go into complete, simultaneous organ failure." She sighed, "I basically have to be dead for twenty minutes and either I wake up when my body completes the change or I don't." She'd not said it out loud since her talk with Ariana. It felt final.
Vito stood up, "What the hell?! Either you die or you don't? That's the damn stupidest thing I've heard. Isn't there something, anything Doctor Hades or Nivar, or anyone else can do?" Vito was angry, not at Splendora but at the situation. Tom couldn't get back soon enough, and he didn't know when that might even be.
After a moment, he paused. "What do you require of me?"
She smiled. Standing she put her hand on his arm and pulled him back down. "It's not that bad. Hades will do his best and Nivar...he's been training my body. He thinks I will be okay. I have more strength now." it was evident in her leaner and more muscled form. "Nivar says there is ways that the doctor can coax a response from my body. Vito I will be okay. Just...if Tom is back, we still don't know timing yet but if he's back keep him sane and safe. Maybe ... even keep him away. I don't want to stress him."
"He won't want to be away." Vito replied. "You tell Nivar, when all of this...happens, he better let me know."
The door hissed open and Nivar walked through. He raised an eyebrow but then noting Splendora's paleness he quickly pulled out the tricorder Hades had given him. "Damn it! You should have called me." His Vulcan screen dropped he sighed. "It's okay. You're just feeling ill but...I don't like these readings. Hades needs to see you."
Vito glared at Nivar for a moment. "He's right, you need to see the doctor."
She sighed. "I will be fine." She stood and then swayed.
Nivar looked over at Vito. "Can you carry her?" His animosity momentarily forgotten. "Get her to her quarters. I'll get the doc."
Splendora's paleness changed a little. Some redness entered her cheeks as her temper flared. "Enough. I'm tired of people ordering me around! I will be fine. No doctors, no quarters. I have appointments to keep."
Nivar looked at Vito. "Talk some sense into her. She'll listen to you."
Splendora rolled her eyes.
"You need to go to the Doctor. If not for you, then for Tom. Imagine how he'd feel when he returns that you allowed yourself to give into whatever is happening." Vito said.
She narrowed her eyes but smiled, "Oh you do know my weakness." She lightly touched Vito's arm. "I'll go but I have a few clients to see first." She tilted her head. "You still have that box that I gave you?"
"Yes I do." Vito replied.
She smiled. "Good." She looked at Nivar. "Why don't you slink off section like. I need to talk to Vito."
