Mission: Episode 99 - Exordium / Epilogue
Location: Starbase 400
Timeline: MD1 0945hrs

ON:

Mike walked into Tactical Astrometeric. K’Temoc, Draven, and exchange officers Koval, Ch'Tal, T'Lana, Paxim, and Gros were already there.

“What’s going on?” Mike asked.

“A few things.” Draven replied. “First, Rear Admiral Riker has been assigned Commanding Officer of Starbase 247. The USS Titan will remain under his command. The Titan returned from the Delta Quadrant two weeks ago and the Admiral has already arrived at 247.”

Mike nodded, “I saw the memo.”

“Here’s what wasn’t in the memo.” Draven replied. “We’ve picked up the Vanguard’s transponder again, there’s back in Federation space. They’re at warp nine and in route here with an ETA of about three hours. They’re still running silent otherwise.”

T’Lana then stepped forward, “We’ve picked up a lot of Typhon Pact ships approaching the Neutral Zone near RBD8. That Romulan Defense Base was recently upgraded, and the ships themselves are of various types…including Romulan, Gorn, Krazzle, Breen, Tzenkethi, Son’a, The Order, and Kziniti. We haven’t spotted any Talarians or Tholians in the group yet, but the fleet is well over two thousand ships.”

“Imperial Intelligence believes this is an exercise, much like the joint fleet maneuvers the Alliance conducted several months ago.” Ch'Tal added.

“The Obsidian Order agrees.” Koval said in a monotone reply.

“Starfleet Intelligence seems to agree, but they want to keep a close eye out and have requested we send a few ships to patrol the border.” Draven also added.

“I’d like to send Bagwell and the Falcon there as one of the ships, just to observe and monitor.” K’Temoc said.

Mike nodded, “Alright, but he’s to remain within Federation space at all times.”

K’Temoc nodded.

“Also send the USS Yuzhao, USS Xantium, USS Atlantis, and USS Richelieu. Same orders that the Falcon, remain on our side of the border.” Mike replied.

“The Klingons are sending several ships to their border with the Romulans as well.” Ch'Tal added.

“The Romulan Republic is sending five Warbirds to the boarder as well.” T'Lana also added.

Mike looked at the Romulan, “Same orders for them as well, remain in Federation territory.”

T'Lana gave a nod.

“One other thing. Admiral Mendek was released from Starfleet Security custody. It wasn’t authorized by Starfleet Command. Intel thinks the Section 31 Operative known as 'Cyrus' was behind the release. 'Cyrus' was also spotted on DS7 last week.” Draven reported.

“Where’s Mendek now?” Mike asked.

“Unknown.” Draven replied.

“Who’s Admiral Mendek?” Paxim asked. The Talaxian had no idea who the man was.

“A disgraced Starfleet Admiral that was behind a plot to bring mercenaries from the Mirror Universe here to work with Section 31 agents. No one knows exactly why, but one of their first targets was Mike. They accused him of murdering a Cardassian crew then used his mirror universe duplicate to attack another Cardassian ship.” K’Temoc explained.

“They wanted to prevent the Cardassians from joining the Federation Alliance.” Koval stated. “Keeping us separate would make it easier if this ‘cold war’ as you call it turned hot.”

“What’s the Ferengi stance on the Typhon Pact build up along the Romulan border?” Mike asked.

Gros paused a moment, “The Grand Nagus wants to keep an ear on what’s going on, but we still have a non-aggression pact with the Typhon Pact and he’s not willing to break it, right now. Remember the seventh Rule of Acquisition, ‘Keep your ears open.’”

Mike nodded. He looked up at the large screen, it showed hundreds of ships near the Neutral Zone, several were named but most were not and only had the class of the ship noted. “I’m not going to issue a fleet-wide yellow alert at this time, but if any of those ships cross the border you let me know.”

“Yes sir.” Draven said.

Mike nodded again then headed back for Ops.

K’Temoc typed a message to Bagwell to take the Falcon out and patrol the border near the Desica and Qualor systems. Even with DS6 orbiting Qualor Three, he still wanted someone he felt he could trust out there.
