Mission: Episode 98 - A Raid on Peace
Location: Starbase 400
Timeline: MD1 1035hrs

ON:

K’Temoc arrived in the Brig after receiving word that MacLeod wanted to see him.

Harper gave him a nod and allowed him access. “Commander?” K’Temoc asked very formally, even though the two had known each other for years.

Mac stood and took a step closer to the cell’s force field. “I heard about the Reman raid on Tarod IX. I’d like to take the Vanguard...”

“Sorry. You still have six days left in the brig.” K’Temoc cut him off in reply.

“My sister, Sara, she’s on Tarod IX right now working on the weather control system.” Mac replied.

K’Temoc paused and looked at Mac for a moment.

“Sir.” Tom started. “He should go.”

K’Temoc took a deep breath. He knew if he let Mac out then he’d look soft on discipline. A fight on the promenade was serious, and if he left him out people may think they can get away with breaking rules and regulations. He also wanted to let Mac out and understood how he must feel.

“Mac, I can’t. General Jackson is leading an emergency response team, they’re departing soon.” K’Temoc replied with a sympathetic look. “As soon as we know more I’ll let you know.”

Mac was angry, even though he understood why K’Temoc couldn’t make an exception.

“Mister Harper, once reports come in and we have news on the Commander’s sister, I’ll route the information directly to you. Please make sure he gets it.” K’Temoc.

“Aye sir.” Harper replied.

Bremer’s Office

“Why didn’t you assign me to this mission?” Janice came storming into Mike’s office. “As the MARINE Intel Officer I should be going, not some new guy who doesn’t even like you! I have field experience, or have you forgotten? Just because I’m a woman and your wife doesn’t met you can just pick and choose the soft missions for me!”

Mike smirked, “Are you done?”

“That depends on what you say next!” Janice replied.

“With Jackson and Hurd both going, and the uncertainty of this being an isolated incident I wanted at least one experienced Marine field commander still on the station. If something happens, if there’s another raid, I need to be able to send Marines with a commander I trust. That’s you.” Mike explained.

Janice let out a breath. “You could have told me before.”

“You didn’t asked before.” Mike replied with a smirk.

Janice walked over to the food slot and ordered a coffee, Earth Colombian blend. “I sent Hannigan everything I had on the Reman Commandos. We believe they are led by Colonel named Xiosek. He’s a Dominion War veteran, was a part of Shinzon’s coup, and an old school believer in the might of the Romulan Star Empire.”

Mike nodded, “Have the Durga prepped and ready, and a Company standing by. I’ll have the standby crews on the Laffey and Constantinople ready to depart if needed with you.”

Janice smiled, kissed Mike, then left his office.

R&D Office

Stark read over a PADD, data sent to him from the USS Odyssey following her trial runs and trip to Cardassia. The new pride and joy of Starfleet had returned to Earth after the Cultural Exchange and been put back into dry dock following issues with her secondary power regulators. The problem had caused a cascade of other issues from comm systems overloading to weapons systems losing all power.

Stark’s R&D team on Starbase 400 had helped with the weapons systems for the new class of ship, but in this case the problems aboard the ship were clearly not due to their work.

“I think we have an issue with programming.” Wayne said from behind Stark as he entered the office. Wayne typed up some notes and sent them over to Stark.

Stark read them over, “Yeah, I think you’re right. With several systems offline, fusion generators should have powered back, instead they continued to operate at ninety-two percent. The excess power was shunted through the relays and with nowhere to go they started to burn out. Some extra power slipped into the comm system and shorted it out, blowing the relays which caused other systems to be completely deprived of power. Only then did the generators output fall to levels necessary for ship’s systems that were currently online.”

“I think I have a work around, and then we can work on a permanent solution.” Wayne added.

Stark walked over to the console Wayne was at. “Alright, let’s do some testing and if everything works on the simulations we’re send it to Starfleet R&D to try aboard the Odyssey while working on a fix.”
