Once in Tactical Operations, Mike typed in several commands on the panel for the main screen. The large screen showed the region of space with a yellow dotted line flashing the path from SB400 to Tarod IX.
While waiting for the others to arrive, Mike tapped his combadge, "Admiral Log, Stardate 72800.1. Tarod IX is has been raided. Reports are sketchy, but they indicate a Reman Commando Team is responsible. I'm not sure if this is an act of war against the Federation by the Romulan Star Empire or if this is an isolated incident by radical separatists. Either way, this is an Emergency Response Team situation. They will eliminate the threat, treat the injured, and help with damage control and repairs."
Mike ended the log as Draven and Hannigan walked in. They handed Mike a PADD with information about a Reman Commando Team trying to cross into Federation space near Benzar last week. It was more than likely the same team. As Mike read, the doors opened as Jackson, Hurd, McDaniel, Hades, and Solomon arrived.
Hades strolled through at a clipped pace, coffee In one hand and data PADD in another. He greeted the admiral and others feeling the tension. He settled himself in his usual seat at these briefings and called up a blank page on the data PADD.
Jack entered the room and immediately had a gut feeling that something bad had taken place. With the list of Senior officers summoned to the meeting, something big had taken place and his expertise along with some of the stations best minds in Engineering would be required. He soon had a feeling that they would be in the middle of a sticky situation. He made sure to note to stop by to see Deela before he was headed out.
Thomas walked in, an immediately felt the tension in the room. He knew that this was not going to be a weather report. He walked up to Mike, and greeted him. The look he saw on Mike's face said it all.
Looking at the General, Hurd have him a grim smile and fell back into pensive silence.
" General Jackson, what are your orders for me ?" McDaniel asked.
"I may ask you for a couple of things after the briefing." Jackson answered.
Once everyone had a chance to look over the PADD handed to them by Draven with current information about the raid on Tyrod IX, Mike addressed the group. “Tarod orbits a binary system with a K-class star and a M-class star. An outpost and small colony were built there in the 2150s. Tarod IX was also one of several Federation outposts along the Romulan Neutral Zone that the Borg attacked in 2364 which led to the first Starfleet encounter with the Romulans in more than fifty years." After the quick history lesson, Mike gave a brief update on the situation, "We don’t have reports on the number of hostiles, causalities, or even an accurate damage report yet. Communications have been cut off and long-range sensors are having trouble scanning the surface. Interference could be from sensor jammers deployed by the Remans or even from leaking radiation from damaged power installations. Tarod IX doesn't have much there. No colony, there's a Starfleet outpost with facilities for shore leave and resupply of ships. They have a communications relay station, and sensor arrays in orbit for monitoring the Romulan Star Empire. At last report they also had a Starfleet Intelligence facility for reviewing data collected. They are civilians there however, and a team from Earth...Caplinger Industries, a small group of engineers working on the planet's weather control system. They don't have much in the way of defenses.”
Hades sighed. He'd have to make sure whatever ship he was on was fully stocked. They were there for medical but he hoped to God that the CO would be a fighter. He then looked at the list of ships and COs. Thankfully he'd swallowed the mouthful of coffee cause that would have gone flying right at Hurd who was sitting across him. He was the CO of the Mercy. First word that came to mind....crap followed by little old Earth poop emoji's dancing in his head mocking him with their smiles. He'd be ready. He just had to channel his inner warrior.
Jack knew straight away that he was heading out on the Ark Royal. It had been some time since the old girl had been out of the dock, however, he'd overseen the last refit several weeks ago personally and was satisfied that she would be ready for both combat where necessary and also to make sure the various Engineering teams aboard would be able to provide support where possible.
Something did not sit right with General Jackson. He knew a thing or two about Reman battle tactics.
Walking over to General, Hurd said solemnly, “Sir something about this stinks, and pardon my frankness, I think we are walking around bro a trap”.
Jackson whispered back, "Stick around after the briefing."
“General Jackson will be in operational command, and I want you to take all precautions, but I also want the threat eliminated. Lieutenant Hannigan will be going along as the Intelligence Officer. He’s also a trained infiltration specialist, so his skills might come in handy. Hurd, I'm also assigning First Ramata'tar and Lieutenant Hurd to the Kearsarge for this mission.”
Jackson eyed the Lieutenant, "I sure can use him, Sir."
Hannigan glanced at Bremer, he wasn’t expecting any kind of compliment from him.
The CAG, Major McDaniel, stood beside Bremer and received his slip to board the Saratoga. His blood racing at the prospects of combat were only matched by his willingness to serve.
" Admiral I'm off to the Saratoga. Thank you for this opportunity to serve." Chuck saluted. "Thank you for your trust in me. I will not let you down sir."
"Chuck, hold on for a minute please," Jackson asked him.
Jack nodded as Admiral Bremer gave out his orders to the officers in the room. "Understood Admiral, I'll have the Ark Royal ready to go," he responded. Before leaving the room, Jack tapped his combadge. =/\= Lt Commander Gillo, Lts Quan, AmHain, Young and SWO. Blackthorne, please report to the Ark Royal on the double. Have Engineering teams one through six on board as soon as possible. =/\=
Hades stayed behind as the room emptied. "Admiral Bremer. A word please."
Mike looked at Hades, "What's on your mind Doctor?"
"I want to start by saying I am grateful for your trust in me. I will do my best. I've ensured that we won't be left in the cold like on Cardassia. I....I will make sure the Mercy is stalked with all that is needed.
Mike nodded. "You'll do fine." He patted Hades on the shoulder.
He thought about asking Bremer but then shook it off. He'd talk to T'Lar he had a meeting with her now and she knew more of what was going on. Plus she was Vulcan....She'd understand more. "There is a question I do have but now that I think of it, it can wait until our return. I will require your assistance with a delicate matter."
Mike nodded. "Alright. Come see me when you're back."
Hades gave a nod and headed towards the door. He had one meeting with Admiral T'Lar before getting to the Mercy.
Jackson motioned for Hurd, Hannigan and McDaniel to come to him.
Standing and straightening his uniform, Hurd followed the General pensively.
McDaniel, a silent man, followed suit.
Hannigan followed the others.
"Gentlemen, something is not right. Remans only use their commando teams as a prelude to a larger unit engagement. " Jackson paused to let his words sink in. "David, I want you to take Captain Ross' unit on the Kearsarge, BUT, I want you to take a troop transport with additional Marines with your battle group. I will do the same for mine."
“Understood General, We shall prevail and Shall eliminate the enemy with extreme prejudice”.
"I have no doubt, General Hurd. Whatever happens, I want us ready." Jackson said. The he turned his attention to the CAG.
"Chuck, it is up to you, but I request that you bring along extra birds on your transports in each battle group. You know, just in case."
" Sir yes sir. We will be loaded to bare." McDaniel replied.
"Lieutenant Hannigan, glad to have you with me. Once aboard the Saratoga, you might want to meet with Chief Aquila. Your purposes are compatible."
"Will do General." Hannigan
Jackson finished by saying, "Gentlemen, I know this is alot of firepower that I am asking for, but it is better to be safe, and not need it, than to be short changed. As of this moment, we are on ThreatCon Delta. Get your people ready. Officers call in one hour."
After they left, Jackson walked up to Mike. "Mike, you know this whole thing stinks. So I am taking precautions."
"I expected nothing less." Mike replied with a smirk.
