Episode 97 - Cultural Exchange
Location: USS Pegasus, Ariana’s Quarters
Timeline: MD07 1900 hrs
Ariana was resting on the sofa in her Quarters, she’d promised Carolyn that she’d rest. She was just finishing off a snack when the door chime rang.
Cameron had been thinking about Ariana all day. Now that he had managed to get his nerve up he headed to her quarters with a half a dozen roses and the beginnings of a plan for a electric rocker for her unborn child
Walking over to the door Ariana smiled warmly as she greeted Cameron. “Hey there, please come in.” She stood back to allow him to enter her eyes falling on the roses he’d brought. “Are those for me?!”
"Yes they are along with this." Said Cameron as he handed over the roses and the PADD containing the rough ideas he had come up with based on her suggestion from earlier.
“Cameron these are beautiful. Thank you! Just give me a moment to pop these in some water and I’ll have a look at the PADD. “ she smiled. “Make yourself at home!” She quickly and carefully put the roses in some water before having a look at the PADD he’d given her. “These designs are wonderful, considering I kind of caught you by surprise with the request you’ve made an amazing start! Heavens! Where are my manners?! Would you like anything to drink?”
Cameron glided into the room and found himself a spot that was open he parked his chair and watched as Ariana seem to flutter around the room. "Normally I would say yes but given the company I am in I better just have some water." Said Cameron softly "As to the designs well right now I am kinda stuck on a starship without so much as a shuttle pod to work on so it was an interesting mental exercise if nothing else." He added.
Ariana smiled as she brought Cameron over his water. "Here you go" She also brought a second glass containing a coloured liquid. "You seemed reluctant at the idea of water so I brought you this..." She handed over the second glass. "It's just a little fruit drink I came across on Cardassia, it's quite pleasant." She walked back over to the replicator and brought herself one as well before sitting down. "So you're stuck on what to do with the cradle idea? It was just an idea off the top of my head it doesn't matter if it's proving time consuming for you. You already gave a business to run, I font want to interfere with that." She smiled and sipped her drink as she made herself comfortable.
"Thanks." Said Cameron as he accepted the glasses "I am not so much stuck as stopped cold. The basic design should work just fine it is just the fact that I can not build the actual unit here on the ship. As to my business this will not interfere with it at all." Said Cameron as he took a sip of the fruit drink. It was actually surprisingly good.
“Well it’s not like there’s any rush!” Ariana smiled warmly. “I’ve still got another four to five months to wait before this little one is due to make an arrival.” She sipped her drink before looking curiously at Cameron. “May I ask...both times I’ve seen you you’ve been in your chair. Do you ever use prosthetic limbs? If it’s too personal a question feel free to decline to answer.”
"It is not personal and your not the first to wander. I have been in a chair like this of one form or another since I was 12. I have honestly just gotten used to the chair.". Said Cameron softly. " Besides I have kinda come to enjoy what the chair can do for me.". He added
Ariana smiled. “That’s fair enough, if you’re happy then that’s what matters. I’m willing to bet you’ve had your ears chewed off about trying prosthetics in the past though. It’s a matter of choice and if you’re happy then that is what is important.”
"You have no idea." Said Cameron softly seeing the look on her face he decided to elaborate a little. "The head of the SFCE sent me a personal invite to the Starfleet christmas ball formal dress and the whole thing. I think he was determined to show me what I was missing by not being able to actually walk. I spent the entire night upright and had probably 90 percent of the people there totally fooled." Said Cameron lightly as he remembered the look on the admirals face when he had spent the night dancing with more then a few of the ladies at the ball.
Ariana smiled. “I know Starfleet Medical would most likely try and have you walking rather than be in a chair but in my opinion the option is yours. My opinion got me into more than a few heated arguments with my peers when I was at the Academy. I’m not your a-typical Counsellor, I tend to “side with my patients more than I should!” According to my report!” She grinned. “But they still passed me with flying colours on my final grade!”
"Hmm I suppose that could be a good thing especially for me." Said Cameron calmly then he decided to elaborate on his answer. "The few times I delt with councilors on New Dakota they basicly told me the same thing my life as I knew it was over and to accept that I would never have the quality of life that I could have if I were able to walk. Needless to say I did not take that very well." He added lightly
"Neither would I given those circumstances!" Ariana looked at him as she shook her head. "It sounds like you could have done with a more sympathetic counsellor."
"I mean and I hate to say it but look at me now I have a successful business I have traveled the stars and I hope I am not overstepping my bounds here but I have found myself a smokin hot girlfriend if she will have me that is." Said Cameron calmly
"Wait a minute!" She looked at Cameron in surprise. "Did you say girlfriend??"
"Yes I did assuming you will have me that is." Said Cameron softly
"Are you kidding me!! I would LOVE to go out with you!!" She grinned like a Cheshire cat. "You honestly don't mind me being...." She motioned to her bump.
"Pregnant, no not in the least for some reason it seems to suit you. I mean I am sure most women think they will be good mothers and many are right but there is a difference between being a good mother and being a great mother. You I have a feeling will be a great mother when the time comes." Said Cameron quite seriously hoping he was not digging himself a pit here he could not get out of.
Ariana couldn’t help but blush. Her smile beamed as she leaned towards him and gave him a very gentle kiss on the cheek. “That is for being the most charming man any woman could ever wish to meet!! I consider myself very fortunate to have you."
"On that we will have to agree to disagree because I happen to think I am the fortunate one to have you in my life." Said Cameron quietly.
