Mission:
Episode 96 - A Visitor From the Past
Location: Holo deck
Cameron was a man on a mission he wanted to find a way to improve the shelby class runabout's turn radious even more then it was already improved. He had kept the standard warp core pretty much stock as he was not interested in higher speeds at warp that was just pointless. He did know however that if you could reduce the turning radious at impluse speeds you would have something that was special.
To that end he had barrowed from old earth history and used a vectored thrust system. Using that system he had managed to cut down the runabouts turn radious by half though he had, had to beef up the structural supports around the impulse drive. Having friends at the SFCE had paid off big time there. They sent him some struts from a sabre class starship that had been so badly damaged that there was no way to repair it during the dominion war and it had been sent to the scrap yard.
It had taken him several months of work but with his team they had managed to form the struts in the way that they were needed and in such a way that would have been safe to actually use. The work had been documented and submitted to the SFCE at the time though it was likely that it would have not even been looked at by anyone of any import. Especially since he and his team were not starfleet. Still they had kept the original data and even developed a holo lab to work in to farther the design if time ever allowed for that to happen. It had not happened on earth but out here he had the time and so could indulge himself. How knew maybe he would find the answer that he was looking for and solve some more of the riddle that had perplexed him and his friends.
"Computer activate program Wayne hololab 1." Said Cameron calmly he waited a few seconds and then entered the lab when he heard the chime. He glided over to the custom designed work station and pulled up the design for the shelby class runabout complete with all the changes that they had already made to the class.
"Computer display a 3D image of the same runabout above the work station. Now install impulse engins on the port and starboard bows of said ship. Increase the structural supports strengh in the bow by 50 percent." Said Cameron as he steepled his hands in thought. "Computer increase structural strengh along the rest of the hull by 25 percent and run a test." He added.
The test took all of about 5 minutes and ended up with the runabout breaking in two almost dead center along the hull from undue stress. "Computer increase structural support strengh by 50 percent along the mid hull and run again." Said Cameron calmly he was close and he knew it but he was not where he needed to be not yet at least. This time the test too 20 minutes to run before the design succumbed to distruction. However this time it was the bow that blew the rest of the ship stayed togather.
Cameron glided back from the table a foot or so and rubbed his temple. "What would have caused that kin of a blowup?" He asked to himself though the computer heard him and replied Excessive G forces during sustained operation caused a microfracture to expand and the failure of two structural supports."
"Damn why didn't I see that before." Said Cameron he glided back up to the table. "Computer increase sturctural support strenght by 50 percent and include a mid level structural intagerity field over the entire ship." Said Cameron a few seconds later after looking over the readings he set the test up again.
"Computer run test 5 start with standard manuvers for a shelly class runabout then increase to a danuabe class. If the ship is still in good condition take it to a warhammer class then start on the fighter manuvering tests." Said Cameron as he sat back and watched " Computer begin test 5 now." Cameron glided away from the table and got himself something to eat and drink from the replicator while the test ran. It took nearly an hours time before the test completed
"Computer send results to my PADD save the program and end I think we have done enough for a while." Said Cameron the program ended and he glided out the holodeck with a PADD in hand he would have some reading to do tonight and he might have to talk to some people to see if he could actually do what he wanted to do.
Cameron arrived back at his quarters and started reading over the PADD.
Standard and evasive manouver test 5
Shelly class runabout PASS
Danuabe Class runabout PASS
Yellowstone Class runabout PASS
Warhammer class runabout PASS
Peraguine class transport PASS
Those findings alone made him smile there was even more information yet to read the test had surprised him.
Broadsword class bomber PASS Stress fractures starting to appear however craft survived the trial
Valkary class fighter PASS/ FAIL ship could handle lower end manuvers but stress fractures and Structural Intagerity field failed when testing evaisive manouves in this class
"Well that is certainly a surprise I would have never expected the test to go to that point. I am glad it did just did not expect it." Said Cameron to himself. He glided over to a rough handmade desk and stored the PADD in a locked concealed drawer he would consider who he would let know this information, and he also needed to figure out how he was going to make the changes to his runabout without the stations engineers and operations people finding out about it at least if he did not want them to find out.
