Mission:
Episode 96 - A Visitor From the Past
Location: Starbase 400, USS Enterprise
Timeline: MD1, 1230Hrs - Following 'A Storm is Coming'
ON:
After changing into Starfleet uniforms of 2269, Mike lead T’Lar, Solomon, AmHain, Hades, Fintel, Young, and Gillo to the airlock the Enterprise was docked at. K'Temoc, Jackson, Hurd, and Hurd were already there, in 2269 Starfleet uniforms, except K'Temoc.
"Not coming aboard the Enterprise?" Mike asked his brother.
"Not right now at least, but I guess that makes me the odd man out here." He smirked. "I have a meeting with the SOG staff in a few minutes, but I at least wanted to get a good look at the Enterprise." He looked back out a nearby window. "No offense to our USS Princeton, but nothing beats the original classic lines of the Constitution class."
Mike took a moment to gaze at the Enterprise too for a moment. "I'll be back later," K'Temoc said after a moment, then walked off.
Mike finally brought himself back from his childhood amazement of the Enterprise and looked at this officers. "Alright, everyone in character. The Enterprise is wrapping up her last five-year mission before her refit. They recently discovered the truth behind Carter Winston's disappearance. He was a renowned Trader and Philanthropist of the era. Before that, the Enterprise was at Camus II where Doctor Janice Lester tried to swap bodies with Kirk. Before that, the Enterprise was at the Elba II asylum where Captain Garth was a patient for a time." He handed the tricorder to Jewell. "We'll tell them they are at Starbase 4. It was an old K-12 type station that did have an internal bay capable of holding a Constitution class ship. It was a brand new base, commissioned in late 2269...I think. We'll do what we can to assist them and to also find out how they got here so we can find a way to get them back, however, we need to keep their sensors and communications offline as long as possible."
Mike gave a nod to Hurd. "Open the airlock General, er Major." He smirked at Hurd then looked at Jackson who was wearing Colonel bars. As the airlock door opened, the Starbase 400 crew came face to face with Captain Kirk, Commander Spock, Doctor McCoy, Lieutenant Commander Scott, Lieutenant Sulu, and Lieutenant M'Ress.
Kirk stared at Bremer for a moment, "Walt?"
Mike closed his eyes for a moment, he'd forgot about family stories that said he was the spitting image of his great-grandfather, Walter Norman Bremer. Walter, Walt as he friends called him, was a Starfleet Academy classmate of James T. Kirk. He was promoted to Captain in 2265 of the USS Pegasus which was assigned to on a five-year mission, and Mike had no idea where the Pegasus was at the time were the Enterprise came from. Mike decided to try to bluff.
"Hiya Jim. I took some shore leave I had built up, was waiting here for a ride to Earth, but that was canceled when the Commodore here took leave to return to Inverness for his mother's funeral." Mike hoped the story would hold up, at least for a bit. "These are the station's senior officers. "Commander T'Lar, the station's Executive Officer. Lieutenant Commander Solomon, Chief Engineer. Lieutenant JG AmHain, Assistant Engineer. Doctor Hades, Chief Medical Officer. Lieutenant Commander Gillo, Operations Systems Chief. Lieutenant JG Fintel, Chief Science Officer. Lieutenant JG Young, Chief Pilot. Commander Hurd, Diplomatic Coordinator. Her husband, Major Hurd, Marine Executive Officer. And finally Colonel Jackson, Marine Commander."
Kirk and company gave a respectful nod and smiles. Spock, of course, didn't smile, instead, he studied each person's face.
Kirk then introduced his officers, "This is my Executive Officer, Commander Spock. My Chief Medical Officer, Doctor McCoy. Lieutenant Commander Scott our Chief Engineer. Lieutenant M'Ress, Communications Officer. And Lieutenant Sulu, Helmsmen." Kirk paused as everyone exchanged pleasantries. "Our Chief Communications Officer Lieutenant Uhura, and Navigators Ensign Chekov and Lieutenant Arex are on the Bridge working on emergency repairs."
Mike nodded. "Starbase 4 is pretty new, but we should be able to get the Enterprise out of here quickly."
"I did not think Starbase 4 was due to be operational for at least a year after design and power system failures." Spoke replied.
"Neither did I, but it was open for business when the Pegasus dropped me off." Mike smiled, hoping no explanation would be better than a lie that could be seen through.
Kirk flashed a smile, nevertheless, we appreciate the assistance. Right, Spock?" The Vulcan raised an eyebrow. "Welcome aboard the Enterprise," Kirk added.
Mike nodded, "Thank you, Jim." He took a deep breath as he turned to face his crew having just called a legend by his first name. "Alright, let's see if we can give them a little help getting their ducks in order. I'm sure the Enterprise has better places to be than here." He smirked. "Doctor, give Doctor McCoy a hand as needed. Solomon, AmHain, and Gillo give Mister Scott any help he needs. The rest of us will go to the Bridge to see what we can do."
Hades had to stop himself from doing a happy dance. This was 'The Bones'. McCoy had always been a personal hero of his. He studied the man, the perfect southern gentleman. Hades had prepped for this and had packed all supplies that would have been relevant at the time, including a medical bag that looked like it belonged in the 18th century, his pride and joy. He followed McCoy resisting the urge to say 'Oh My God' and scream like a fan at a boy band concert.
Jewel had the doctor cover her ridges up but kept the ears to cover the fact that she was also part Klingon, she didn't want to chance them being found to be from the future. She tugged at her uniform and followed the others to the bridge. Her hair was tied back, and she looked emotionless as possible to pull off being Vulcan. She couldn't help but admire the Enterprise and would have never dreamed of stepping foot on it.
Jackson followed Bremer's lead because, for the most part, he had no idea what to do. The mid-23rd Century Federation Marines were still rebuilding after the Four Year War, which took place against the Klingon Empire a couple of decades before. Besides the make pretend demotion to Colonel, Thomas was actually comfortable in the Marine jumpsuit that was part of the period. The dark green was not that different from the MCUs he was accustomed to wearing, except it was one piece. Like the Marines of the present, the Marines of the past were armed while on duty. He hoped that the Type II Phaser he restored was convincing. Deep inside, he was excited to walk among these legends. Kirk was a legend without question. But Sulu was a legend all on his own. Jackson's great-grandfather was Weapons Officer aboard what would become the USS Excelsior, NCC-2000. He also shared Sulu's interest in history, and antique weapons. He glanced over his XO because he knew Hurd was excited as hell about the current situation.
Looks were exchanged by both Deela and Spock several times. Deela's dark eyes had gained the attention of Spock. Deela shared something in common, they were both part Vulcan and part Human but the color of her eyes revealed her Betazoid side. She knew what he went through as a child, another thing that they shared. She didn't fit in with the Betazoid kids or the Vulcan kids either.
Deela was skeptical of their plan to fool the Enterprise crew into thinking that they were still in their own century. she knew that if anyone was going to figure it out, Spock would. There was also Bremer's demise, trying to pretend to be Walt. She was thankful that her father's 162-year-old step brother who also grew up in Shi'Kahr, had a different last name than hers. She wondered how long Bremer would be able to fool Kirk? Until then, she would keep up the charade to the best of her ability but it wouldn't be easy. She made sure that she didn't say much, if anything, for the time being.
Chloe asked Captain Kirk" Captain Kirk How do we get to the bridge?" she had never been on the Enterprise before plus she also skeptic of the plan to fool the Enterprise crew but after watching Captain Sisko's experience with the Enterprise crew she would have played the charade long enough to get The Enterprise crew back to where they belong.
Kirk glanced back at Young, "Like any ship Lieutenant, we take the turbolift." Kirk flashed a smile at the woman's odd question.
For Jack, this was a moment to treasure in his life. Despite wearing a red shirt (something he had just gotten his head around again after his years in Command) he was stood before the Senior officers of the Constitution class Enterprise and more importantly her infamous Chief Engineer. He stepped forward to shake hands with Mr. Scott.
"Lieutenant Commander Scott, from one miracle worker to another, may I say its a pleasure to meet you," he said. "I'm Lieutenant Commander Solomon, Chief Engineer."
Shaking his hand in return, Montgomery Scott gave a broad smile. "Its a pleasure to meetya lad," he replied. "Your a lucky man to be serving on a brand new Starbase!"
"It's a challenge I'm looking forward to. So, let's get down to business. What parts and repairs can our humble starbase help out the Federation Flagship with?" Jack asked.
Scott went into business. "We'll need some replacement power flow regulators for the Sensors and the Impulse Engines require some replacement overflow compensators. Finally, the Shield Generators will need a full once over with some new bonding parts for the Matrix sequencers...
Octceann used the clunky PADD he had replicated to take note of Chief Scott's request. "I believe that can repli . . .er, replace all of that from the supplies we have aboard the station, sir. It shouldn't take more than a few hours to find it all."
"Aye, Lieutenant, send over the parts as soon as you have them so that we can get started," replied Scotty.
With that, Solomon and Octceann made their way back to the Station to begin replicating the required parts.
Chloe asked Captain Bremer "Captain how many decks are on the Enterprise?" She was still stunned that she was aboard the Constitution-class starship of the Federation fleet from the 23rd century and also standing in the presence of Captain Kirk and the crew.
Bremer looked back at Young. "Never been aboard a Constitution class ship before Lieutenant? There are twenty-three decks."
A few minutes later, everyone that was heading for the Bridge stepped out of the turbolift. Mike looked around, his eyes caught Lieutenant Arex sitting at the Navigation station. His three hands trying to reactivate the system. Chekov was at the Science station, also trying to bring it back online.
Mike stopped T'Lar and Fintel. "Do what you can to help them get primary systems online, but keep their communications and sensors offline as long as possible. Once they scan the area or pick up modern Starfleet comm traffic, our ruse is up."
Deela nodded, "Understood." She looked over to Fintel, "Come along Lieutenant."
The turbolift opened again, out stepped Lieutenant Monroe. Kirk looked back and smiled at the woman in a blue miniskirt uniform of the era.
"Ah, Miss Monroe," Mike said. "This is the station's counselor, Lieutenant Monroe. Lieutenant, this is Captain Kirk." Mike introduced.
"Lieutenant," Kirk replied with a smile.
"Captain Kirk, it's a pleasure to meet you" Ariana couldn't help but beam a smile she felt like a giddy little schoolgirl being on the bridge of the Enterprise and meeting Kirk topped it all off nicely. She only hoped she looked alright in the 23rd-century uniform especially with her growing bump. She could feel the excitement coming from everyone involved she just had to remember not to be saying anything about what she could sense as she was supposed to be a human.
Chloe began to make repairs to the Enterprise's main sensors but from Captain Bremer's Briefing the crew of Starbase 400 was to keep the Enterprise's communications and sensors offline as long as possible she was determined not let Captain Bremer and the rest of the crew on Starbase 400 down.
Ariana stood looking around the bridge of the Enterprise, she could imagine what Marcus would say when she told him about this. "Is there anything, in particular, you'd like me to do at the moment Sir?" she looked at Bremer.
"See if Doctor Hades and Doctor McCoy need a hand. While I don't expect it, there would be some crew member fighting anxiety after the ship's power loss, especially if they were stuck in an area without power for a while." Bremer replied.
"Yes Sir" with that she nodded politely to Kirk before turning and heading for sickbay.
Sickbay
Standing inside the Enterprise sickbay was like a fantastic dream. Hades didn’t know what to do first. He wanted to pick up every instrument and press every button. He very much understood that saying about a kid in the candy store. He now knew the feeling. He watched as McCoy brought out a list of items that were needed. Hades took the clunky PADD and the stylus that came with it. He reviewed the list and was surprised at how far medical equipment and medicine had come. He’d have to replicate a few items on the list but was confident that he could. “I don’t foresee any of this being a problem.”
McCoy, who was just wiping down a biobed that seemed to have been recently vacated, turned. “Excellent. To be honest with you we needed these supplies months ago.”
Hades gave a nod. “It will take some time but I will make sure my staff gather what you need.” He felt a bit selfish being here with his hero when his sickbay staff would love to be here themselves.
McCoy studied Hades. “I have a favor to ask.”
Hades watched as McCoy pointed to a biobed.
“I have…not had a physical in a while. I don’t tend to…”
Hades smiled, “I would be honored to conduct the exam. He reached for a tricorder he usually kept at his side and then remembered that he’d had to use the antiquated technology in front of him. Adapting quickly and tampering down his giddiness at examining McCoy he turned on the instrumentation and began to run the diagnostic. It didn’t take long to see that McCoy’s body had been through a lot but he was healthy, give and take a bit of arthritis. Hades could have treated him with one dose of Valatren but that had not been invented yet so he suggested some herbal remedies and gave the doc a clean bill of health. He wondered if his fellow crewmembers were as star-struck as he was.
Bridge
Chekov walked over to the console beside the Science station and pulled the access panel away, then laid back on the deck and started working.
"Captain, we have repairs made to the Communications station," Uhura reported to Kirk.
"Now, if Mister Scott can get powerr rrestorred." M'Res added.
Mike looked over at T'Lar, then walked over and looked at one of the aux bridge stations. It had power and Mike watching the display show power had been restored to the internal sensors. T’Lar started talking to Spock, so Mike took a quick scan. He found coronations still emanating from science lab two. He then rerouted the power from internal sensors to a non-essential system.
Mike then walked over to Fintel and said in a quiet tone. “See if you can get to science lab two and find out what they were working on.”
Jackson was talking to Sulu when he even noticed that something concerned Mike. If he noticed...
Checkov stood up, "Mister Spock."
Mike noticed Spock walk over to this science station after Fintel left the Bridge.
"For an instant, power was restored to internal sensors," Checkov explained.
Spock tapped a few buttons and flipped a switch. He raised an eyebrow then looked back at Kirk. "Captain."
Kirk walked over and glanced at the readings. He looked back at Bremer, then T'Lar, and then Jewel Hurd. Mike noticed then and he took a step away from the auxiliary console he'd accessed.
"For a moment, internal sensors were restored before someone rerouted power," Spock stated.
"They detected something odd. Two people here are of species we're never encounter, while another is a Klingon." Kirk's eyes fixed on Mike as he took a step forward. "Who are you?"
"We're here to help," Mike replied.
Jackson took a step closer to Bremer while Jewel took a step the other way toward where Uhura and M'Res were standing. Jackson also kept a close eye on Sulu, who he recalled to be the most capable hand to hand fighter in this crew, besides Spock.
Kirk took another step toward Bremer, "You're not going to get my ship. I'll destroy it if I have to."
Bremer replied, "Captain, I promise you, we're not after your ship."
"You're not Walter Bremer. You're a Klingon. Did you have him killed?" Kirk accused, then he punched Bremer with a quick jab. Mike stumbled back, his lip bleeding. He held his hand up to his crew, telling them not to help. Sulu jumped up from the Helm, but he was met by Jackson. Jackson was very familiar with the Kempo and Judo combinations that Sulu tried using on him. But he countered Sulu in a way where no harm would fall on this future Captain. Sulu stepped back, and stared at Jackson as Jackson said, "Don't." M'Res and Uhura stood their ground as Jewel stepped between them and the fight. T'Lar stepped in front of Spock but kept herself out of arm's length. David Hurd rushed over and stood between Chekov and the fight. Young kept Arex back from the fight, trying to watch his three arms.
Mike stood back up as Kirk swung again, but Mike was able to deflect the punch. He tried to be defensive, he didn't want to fight Kirk, however, James T. Kirk was brawler. He quickly chopped at Bremer's left shoulder and as Mike bent over from the impact Kirk lifted his knee into Mike's jaw and he stumbled backwards and into the main view screen. As he fell back, Mike grabbed at Kirk's arm again to deflect another punch, grabbing Kirk's uniform shirt it ripped. Mike managed to push Kirk back as he whipped the blood from his lip. He eyed Kirk as he came toward him again and gritted his teeth as he stood. Kirk swung again, but this time Mike caught Kirk's fist and stopped the punch mid-swing.
"My name is Mike K'Wor Bremer, and I'm a Fleet Admiral in Starfleet. My great-grandfather was Walter Bremer. The Enterprise jumped forward in time one hundred and twenty-five years. And yes, I am half Klingon." Mike said, while still keeping Kirk's fist from moving.
Kirk relaxed slightly. "One hundred and twenty-five years into the future?" Kirk asked as he repeated Bremer as he sort of squinted his eyes.
"We detected chronometric particles emanating from the Enterprise," Mike added, then Kirk relaxed his arm and let out a breath.
"The accident in science lab two," Spock said, as everyone seemed to relax.
"Why didn't you just tell us?" Kirk asked, still obviously annoyed.
"We were hoping to cause as little damage to the timeline as possible. If we could get the Enterprise repaired, without fully reviling ourselves, the better for you and the timeline." Mike explained.
Spock looked at Kirk for a moment. "We will need to erase all sensor readings of this event once we return to our time."
Mike and Kirk both smirked.
The communication's station suddenly came to life and panels and buttons lit up. Uhura looked back at it, "Captain, internal communications have been restored."
"Captain, I have to ask you, not to monitor external communications until you're back in your own time." Bremer requested.
Kirk nodded to Uhura. "I'll keep all but internal communications powered down until Mister Spock confirms we're back in our own time," Uhura said.
A moment later, the boatswain's whistle of the internal comms sounded, then Nurse Chapel's voice came over the speakers. "Sick Bay to Bridge, we have a medical emergency with Doctor McCoy. The Doctor from the Starbase is trying to treat him."
Kirk turned around and pressed the white button on his chair arm. "Mister Spock and I, and Admiral Bremer are on our way," Kirk replied then hit the button again to close the channel. "Sulu you have the Bridge."
Mike looked at T'Lar. "Whatever they need to get operational." He then looked back at Kirk, "But we keep a low profile of modern technology as we discussed, only people here are to know about the timeline."
Kirk nodded, then he and Spock walked to the turbolift. Mike followed.
Sulu kept eying Jackson, so Jackson felt obligated to stick around. Their inevitable conversation started with Sulu asking, "How did you manage to block every attack I tried without breaking a sweat?"
Jewel sighed as she watched everything go down she wasn't sure what to think, she looked at Uhura and the others on the bridge. She looked at T'Lar and sighed "Is there anything I can assist with Deela?" She asked Deela.
Chloe was shocked that Captain Kirk Fought with Admiral Bremer but she had a job to do she asked Admiral T'Lar " what else can I do to assist in making repairs to make sure the Enteprise gets back to where they Belong? she asked.
Deela knew that they'd figure it out but didn't know that it would be this soon. What took place just then was not a scenario she considered. She stood there, her mind still trying to make sense of the fight. She finally acknowledged the two women who were waiting for an answer.
Deela addressed Chloe first, "You can see if Sulu or Chekov needs any assistance but by no means are you to offer any information to either of them." Although they both know protocol, it was human nature to ask questions.
Chloe nodded then she went to see if sulu or chekov needed assistance she understood what Admiral T"Lar said she was to by no means to offer them any information to either of them.
Once Chloe walked away, Deela addressed Jewel. She softly spoke, "It was inevitable that they would find out. I got the sense that Spock knew that something was different about me. He seemed somewhat...intrigued." She sighed, "As the saying goes, what is done is done. We may need your diplomatic skills but for now, just assist where you can."
She nodded, "I'll try my best." Jewel replied as she looked at Deela and just looked around the bridge.
