Mission: Episode 96 - A Visitor From the Past
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD10 - Flashback late evening

It was starting to get late but Ariana was finding it hard to get settled she couldn't help but be concerned about Braxton, she'd done what she could for him while he was visiting her but she felt she needed to do more or perhaps she just needed to stay away & let him heal without seeing a face that reminded him of what he'd lost. She smiled as Hades walked into room no doubt wondering what she was doing awake.

Hades was supposed to be resting but he couldn't stay away. He'd face the wrath of Rol later. He smiled a bit. "Why are you not resting?"

"Sorry" she sat back on her pillow to relax, "I had a visit from Warrant Officer Braxton earlier and its left me a little...perplexed about what I should do to help him, if anything at all."

"Ah yes. Well that is a different story. Don't worry though. My cousin will bounce back." He hoped. What Lai'lira had told him troubled him deeply. He pulled up a chair. "I just looked at your tests. They are excellent. You are showing all signs of being healthy and I think we might even be able to write a duty clearance. I'm just waiting to hear from doctor Harris."

"That's wonderful news!" Ariana smiled warmly, "to be honest I feel much clearer than I did, Rol has a way of making you see sense I'm pleased to have him as part of the Counselling department."

Hades said noting. Rol was quite the thorn in his side now. "Yes he seems....nice."

"I thought you were supposed to be resting anyway?" she smiled as she motioned for him to take a seat, "if you don't mind me asking is there anything I can do to help you? You've obviously been talking to Rol but if talking to someone different might help...."

He smiled, "Right now my focus is on Braxton. As for talking...I wasn't exactly talking to Rol he just happened to be there when I was not at my best and now...well that man is like a dog with a bone."

"Ah I see" she nodded "I'll have a word with him next time I see him & see if I can get you some breathing space."

He smiled, "I wish you luck with that. He's...persistent."

"When I spoke with Brax....sorry Braxton earlier I did my best to try & help him but I think he left just as, if not more confused than when he got here." She sighed, "I feel I owe him so much and I can't help him enough to repay that."

Hades smiled, "I'm sure he's aware of your gratitude and appreciates it but he might not be himself now. With you looking like Nicole and a few things Lai'lira brought to my attention. I have a bit of investigating to do." Hades studied her. "The resemblance is uncanny." He shook his head. He'd always liked Nicole. He'd loved her like a sister. Like Braxton he missed her and he could only imagine what his cousin was going through. He shook off the thoughts and handed her a PADD. "This has a diet that will be good for you and baby. It also has your appointments. I will try to monitor you twice a week. If these times don't work we can reschedule but twice a week for the next month is key."

"I'll be here" she smiled warmly, "I don't want anything else going wrong so I'll be following any medical orders or suggestions to the letter."

Hades smiled, "Good."

"Am I okay to leave here in the morning? Marcus has offered to take me shopping." She grinned.

"You can be ready tonight." He knew that she was wanting to get out. "But give it a day before you go back on duty." He sighed. He really should book a counseling session. There was so much that was jumbled in his mind and with Dora out and Rol...not understanding how he felt. "I will book a session to see you when you are back on duty."

"Agreed" Ariana smiled, "I will also book you an appointment to see me once I'm back up to speed & I'm not taking no for an answer Doctor."

Hades smiled, "Very well." He thought a moment. "So the tests say you are well but how do you feel with everything that's happened?"

"I guess I...." she paused for a moment, "I'll be more wary of any aches & pains for a while but Marcus has kindly volunteered to let me stay with him so he can keep an eye on me!" she grinned. "I won't forget what happened but I know it's not my fault."

He smiled, "Good. Alright then I guess I should be off before your deputy finds me and confines me to the brig."

"Speaking of whom..." Ariana nodded to the doorway as Rol appeared, "what can we do for you Rol?"

Hades sighed and turned.

"I have come to check in on you, make sure you are alright." He turned to Hades. "Doctor."

Hades sighed, "I was visiting. Visiting is resting."

Rol grinned, "I seriously doubt that. You were working. You had a major anxiety attack the other day. You need to rest but I did need to speak with you."

Hades gave a nod, "I'll be outside." He left Rol and Ariana in the room.

Rol approached the bed, "How are you feeling." He pulled up a chair and sat down.

"I could say fine but I know I'd be lying" she offered a smile, "It's going to take me some time to get fully over this but I have my baby to help with that & Marcus too."

Rol smiled, "You will be well. I know it." He studied her for a moment looking a bit more ragged then he'd looked earlier. "How can I help?"

"I....." She paused for a moment, "I could say I'll be fine but I know I'd be lying so how's about just being there when I need you." She smiled briefly, "I'm still processing all this and as much as I.....still have a baby I've lost another part of what I had left of my husband" she stopped to grab a tissue as tears came to her eyes. "I've lost....both of them.....this baby is all I have left."

Rol took her hand gently. "I will be here. This baby is the best part of you and your husband. You have lost a lot that's for sure. Let me ask you a question." It had become a staple of his sessions. "Do you believe that both of your babies are the best parts of you and the best parts of your husband?"

"To be honest...." She wiped her eyes, "I hadn't thought about it before but I guess my babies....baby is the best part of us all. I won't let him or her forget his or her sibling or father."

Rol smiled, "That's right. You are Betazoid. Betazoids believe that the spirit lives on. You now carry a baby that is the best part of you and your husband and the baby that was lost. Your husband now holds the spirit of a baby that was the best part of him and you. You are all linked. They are in you and your little one and you are a part of them." He squeezed her hand. "You are a strong woman. Never forget that."

"I won't" she smiled warmly at Rol, "I intend to enjoy this pregnancy & the first thing I'm going to do is go shopping with Marcus." She paused for a moment, "I'm not....doing the wrong thing falling in love with someone else so soon after losing Jonathon am I? he always told me he wanted me to be happy and not to spend my life alone."

"In love there are no mistakes. Sometimes there are bad timings but mistakes," he shook his head. "Never real mistakes. Lots of lessons yes." That was the pot telling the kettle if he heard it. He was resisting his attraction yet telling her to go for hers. "How does he make you feel?"

"Marcus?" she smiled, "he makes me feel.....loved & cared for."

He smiled, although a bit sadly. "Then that's all that matters. Let love in."

Ariana nodded, "Thank you Rol" she looked at him curiously her own senses were telling her that maybe Rol had something he was holding back about. "Might I suggest that maybe you listen to your own advice..." she smiled warmly.

For a moment he was stunned and then he remembered she was Betazoid. "Things are complicated."

"Fair enough" she nodded, "if you ever need to talk about it you know where to find me. After the way you've helped me it's only fair I return the favour."

Rol looked as if he'd say something and then sighed. "Perhaps I can ask a generalized question if you are up for it."

Ariana nodded "Of course, ask your question."

He shook his head, "Never mind. It's nothing." He sighed. He wished he could find the courage he was so good at inspiring in others. Matters of the heart were tough for him. "I should go, my baby sister is coming aboard and I don't think she'll get many welcoming stares when she does come aboard...especially from the Bajoran delegation on the station for the Gratitude Festival."

Ariana nodded "Okay...this time!" she smiled, "you're not getting away with it again though, I'd like to talk to you once I'm out of sickbay okay?"

He smiled, "Agreed but focus on getting better. I am starting to get paperwork syndrome." He smiled roguishly.

"Well I'm sure I can sort that" Ariana grinned, "Now go meet your sister" she smiled as she watched him go making a mental note for them to talk once she was back at work.
