Mission: Mission 76 - Home comings
Location: Admiral Bremer's house, South Carolina
Timeline: present

ON:

Hugh settled near a tree in the backyard of Admiral Bremer's residence in South Carolina. As he opened his banjo case, he looked around again. The weather reminded him of New Virginia. Hot and humid, like being wrapped in a warm, wet blanket. Given time, Hugh could adjust to the climate, and in fact begin to enjoy it. Years away from the New Virginia colony and most of his adult life aboard star bases and ships, though, made standing in the cool shade of the tree in contrast to the heat of the fine Carolinian day a relief.

His banjo out, Hugh began to tune. He had done so before he left the Yorktown, never the less he did so again out of habit and knowing that the humidity could tweak things a little. Tuning done, he began to play a couple of easy tunes, stopping only to sip on the German made lager he found in an ice box by the porch. He played Rocky Top, Foggy Mountain Breakdown, and Cripple Creek. Next, he moved toward some of the tunes that originated with the Appellation colonists on New Virginia. Shadow River and New Virginia Boogey were among the two.

Hugh put his banjo down for a while, sipping smoothly on his second beer. Officers from SB400 were starting to mingle. It wasn't that Hugh minded officers, but idle chit chat with them just wasn't his forte. Never the less, he was now the Command Master Chief of SB400. Old habits--like steering clear of officers during leisurely outings--would have to adjust.

But not just yet.

Hugh grinned, and began to play a couple more tunes.
