Personal History EARLY YEARS

Hugh O’Reilly was born to Hugh and Marie O’Reilly on the Federation colony New Virginia. Hugh Sr. was a Starfleet NCO and his mother a civilian botanist. By that time Hugh Jr. already had an older sister, Victoria. One more sister and two younger brothers would follow, but most weren’t born on New Virginia. Hugh Sr. was shuffled about from duty station to duty station. The sensor specialist’s mate tried to keep his family together as much as possible, but in the end it became almost impossible as Marie moved back to her native New Virginia with the kids as Hugh served aboard the supply ship USS Horace when Hugh Jr. was ten.
In those years, Hugh Jr. and the rest of the O’Reilly children spent a lot of time with the newly retired Admiral Masters, their mother’s father. The old science officer gave them plenty to do, since his house sat on forty acres of pristine forest land in the Richmond Highlands. Hugh learned how to appreciate hard work when he helped his grandfather build a lakeside cabin when he was twelve years old. He spent a lot of time at that cabin, fishing the lake in both summer and winter. Sometimes, especially in the turbulent years to come, he would long to return to that place where he found so much peace.
Hugh Sr. Reunited with his family when Hugh Jr. was fourteen, and the family moved to Earth where he would serve at Starfleet Headquarters as an instructor for the enlisted basic training. The family lived in British Columbia for that time. Though not as happy as when he had lived with his grandfather, Hugh Jr. never the less loved spending more time with his father.

USS OSLO

At eighteen, Hugh enlisted into Starfleet. Four months later he was stationed aboard the USS Oslo as a Damage Control Specialist’s Mate. It was there that he met his future wife, Janice Sullivan, who was also enlisted. The two dated for over a year before they finally married with Hugh’s commanding officer, Commander Nielson, doing the honors.
The two remained together on the Oslo up until the start of the Federation/Klingon war. Janice was pregnant with their first child, Michael. About the time the USS Oslo received orders toward to patrol the Klingon border, Janice left for the O’Reilly mansion on New Virginia. Hugh had thought that with the relatively quick ending of the war, and uneventful one for the Oslo, he could arrange to have his wife and soon to be born son stationed with him on the Oslo again. But it wasn’t to be.

USS Renegade

When Janice had their son, Hugh was given shore leave to New Virginia, since the colony wasn’t all that far from the Klingon border anyway. He stayed for two weeks, and then news came of the newest war against the Dominion. Hugh, to his surprise, was given orders to report to a new duty station. Starfleet reactivated the Constellation class vessel USS Renegade after fifteen years of acting as a simulation ship for war games. He was to be part of a team of men whose soul responsibility was to aid and assist ships who had extensive damage, either to aid in the repair of the ship so it could return to safety for more extensive repairs, or evacuate the crew inside.
With this mission, the Renegade saw plenty of action during the Dominion War.
Near the end of the war, the USS Renegade was called to assist two Starfleet vessels who had been attacked by Cardassian forces. Hugh and his team were sent to the USS Florida to aid in repairing the Nebula class ship’s severely damaged warp core while other teams headed to the USS Korea to do the same.
Ten hours into repairs, near completion, five Cardassian ships warped in. An intense battle followed. The USS Korea blew apart almost immediately. The Florida wasn’t fairing much better. A repair mission became a rescue mission after the systems on the Florida started to go critical. Hugh helped crewmen onto runabouts and shuttles before being ordered by his commanding officer, Lt. Hiro, to pilot one of the runabouts.
As the small fleet of shuttles and runabouts started to flee the scene, Hugh could remember seeing the Florida explode after the ship too out two Cardassian. The Renegade, placing itself in between the shuttles and the attackers, was on fire. Never the less, the old Constellation class ship did its duty, allowing most of the smaller ships a chance to flee to safety.

USS Romania and Starbase 73

The war over, Hugh O’Reilly was stationed to the USS Romania as an engineer’s mate. He was able to move his family aboard. The Romania was a dark time for Hugh. The nightmares about the war started, and he began to engage in deep therapy to resolve his issues. But it was also a happy time. A new son, Patrick, was born. And two years later his daughter Catherine was born. It was also a time when Hugh found his knack for Starfleet. He eventually became the most senior engineer’s mate, and a leading NCO on the Romania.
This new found responsibility and ability to lead wasn’t unnoticed by Starfleet. He and his family were sent to Starbase 73, this time as a Boatswain’s Mate. Five years later, he achieved the position of Boatswain. The following year, his youngest, Theresa, was born.

Starbase 400

Hugh was selected to serve aboard Starbase 400 as the station's quartermaster. That position did last but a few days before Admiral Bremer, the station's commanding officer, tasked him with the job as the station's Command Master Chief.
