Lwazanda Ral's Apartment, Upstairs

Lwazanda was feeling content. She and Kon had spoken about their marriage, and it seemed to Lwazanda that he was willing to make an effort. To celebrate, she arranged to have dinner with Janice and Mike.

Just putting the finishing touches on her champagne coloured outfit, The Betazoid called to her Husband. "Kon dear, are you ready?"

He entered the large bedroom, adjusting his cuffs. "Whenever you are."

She smiled and slipped a gold bangle on her wrist. "Shall we?" She said with a faint smile.

Corridor

Janice was eager to meet Kon and have a nice dinner. Mike on the other hand had other things on his mind, but he still hoped for a nice meal and convocation.

"No business tonight, right?" Janice looked at Mike in a serious tone.

Mike smirked. "No planned." He replied as they walked. Janice adjusted the thin strap on her royal blue dress. Mike remained in uniform.

Lwazanda Ral's Apartment, Downstairs

Lwazanda had arranged for the entire staff to greet the couple as they descended for their first outting. Assembled at the bottom of the staircase were waiters, cooks, maids, and Mirenna. They all looked on in awe of the Betazoid couple climbing down the grand staircase.

Lwazanda smiled the staff, and then at her husband. In that moment she felt sincere happiness.

Kon was a bit taken ababck by the audience. But after years of Lwazanda's antics, he expected nothing less.

As the couple reached the bottom, Lwazanda threw a wink to Mirenna, and she and her husband departed for the restaurant.

Promenade

The Bremers stepped off the turbolift and out onto the Promanade. It was a typical evening, people were walking to and fro, Security personnel were on duty, and an Engineering team was working on a power transfer conduet.

As they walked toward the restaurant, they noticed a group of people standing around watching something. Lieutenant Commander Roebuck was standing at the rear of the group and when he saw the Admiral approching he walked over.

“Good evening Sir, Mrs.” Roebuck greeting them.

“What’s going on over there?” Mike asked.

Roebuck glanced back, then at Bremer again. “Everyone’s watching the Founter, Vorta, and their Jem’Hadar guards. They’re behaiving and don’t seem to be giving General Hurd or Captain Pike any trouble.”

“I’m not expecting trouble, but there’s a lot of hard feelings still out there.” Mike replied.

“Like the woman that approched Kratz his first day here.” Roebuck replied. “Ramata’tar still gets hateful looks from time to time still.”

“Perhaps the Promenade isn’t the best place for them?” Janice added.

Mike nodded. “Agreed.”

“Yes sir. I’ll advise the General.” Roebuck replied.

Roebuck walked back toward the crowd while Janice and Mike continued on to the restaurant.

Lwazanda and Kon walked hand in hand across the Promenade. Almost immediately, Lwazanda noticed the Bremers. "Janice. Mike." She called out, waving her hand in their direction. "YooHoo!"

Bremer smirked at the 'yoohoo', while Janice smiled as they walked over.

"Lwazanda, you look lovely, and this must be Kon?" Janice said with a smile. Mike glanced back at the crowd then to Lwazanda and Kon.

Lwazanda was consumed by the compliment.

Kon took Janice's hand, and kissed it gently. "A pleasure to finally meet you."

Janice smiled sheepishly, "The pleasure is mine."

"Kon dear, " Lwazanda said, patting her husbands shoulder."This is Fleet Admiral Mike Bremer." Lwazanda noted Mike's distracted mood. "You must remember my talking about him?"

"Ah, yes. Admiral Bremer. So good to finally meet you." Kon said, extending his hand to the man.

Mike blinked a few times, turning his attention to the company he was in as he took Kon's hand. "It's an honor to finally meet you."

While the men continued their introductions, Lwazanda turned her attention to Janice. "Such a lovely dress, and the color is superb." She took Janices arm, and continued towards the restaurant.

Mike noticed the women walking off so he motioned to Kon. "I guess we better follow them before they forget we came along." He flashed a smile as they turned to walk.

"Quite right." Kon flashed his winning smile.

As the group entered the restaurant the Host approached them. "Reservation?" He asked smuggly.

"Yes, Under Ral." Kon said regarding the man with some contempt.

After perusing the reservation log, the Host ushered them towards an opulent table in the middle of the restaurant. "Your waiter will be right with you."

Lwazanda smiled at the host, trying to place his accent.

"So, Admiral" said Kon, "What is it like to command one of the most important stations in the Federation?"

Mike smirked, "It a can a challenge, vastly different from commanding a just a starship, but very rewarding. My wife would say it's nothing but work though.

Lwazanda looked on at the men's excahnge. "Oh Janice, it was so good of you to come out with us."

"We're glad we could. With everything lately, pirates, the Romulans, the Krazzle, the Borg...Mike and I haven't had a night out in the long time." Janice tried to smile, but was lost in thought, they didn't get much time alone anymore.

A young looking waiter approached the table. "Good Evening." He looked at Bremer, "Admiral." he said with a nod. "Can I offer you a bottle of Bajoran Springwine, its a 2362 Vintage."

Mike nodded. "Please."

The waiter left, but returned momentarily with a bottle and four glasses. He tilted the bottle to show the label, written in Bajoran. He then uncorked it and poured four handsome portions.

"Shall we toast?" Kon asked, reaching for a glass.

Janice smiled and raised her glass. It had water and not wine, but that didn't matter.

Mike was a little slower. "What are we toasting?" He asked.

Kon looked at Lwazanda, "To new friends." He called out exuberantly.

Lwazanda smiled, "New Friends." She called a little too loudly.

Later in the dinner

So far, the meal and convocation had been very nice. Mike was glad to get away from work and have a night out with his wife and some friends. He took a sip of his wine, closed his eyes, and took a deep breath, allowing himself to finally relax...

…but that’s what things started to go wrong.

A moment later, Mike heard someone behind him say, “He’s sitting over there but they are still having their meal...sir!”

Mike turned around to see what the trouble was, and saw the trouble was coming to him in the form of three Cardassians that looked very angry.

Gul Mavek, the Cardassian Liaison Officer to Starbase 400, Glen Koval the Cardassian Exchange Officer and Obsidian Order agent assigned to the Intel Department, and the Ares Operational Theater, and Leget Evek the Cardassian Area Commander in charge of the twenty ship Cardassian task force assigned to the Ares area as of ongoing joint operations between the Federation, Klingons, and Cardassians that started as a result of the Krazzle/C’hakilian war.

“Fleet Admiral Bremer, what are Dominion forces doing aboard Starbase 400?” Evek started off. “And why would they be allowed so deep into Federation territory much less allowed to roam free aboard one of Starfleet’s and this sector’s key defensive facilities?”

Mavek looked over at Janice whom he’d known and worked with when she was the Station’s XO. Mavek was not the typical Cardassian, he wasn’t as brash as many of his species and respected people of other species he worked with. He gave a respectful nod as Janice stood.

“Leget Evek, Odo and his ship are here in regards to a Changeling that was found aboard the Station, we believe him to be one of the ‘one hundred’ like Odo. Odo is meeting with him now.” Mike paused, before adding, “And frankly, I don’t need you or anyone else telling me how to operation this Starbase.”

“Part of this ‘working relationship’ that our peoples have now includes the sharing of call intelligence reports. Glen Koval received nothing regarding the presence of a Dominion ship in the Alpha or Beta Quadrants.” Evek replied.

“An intel report wasn’t filed by me. Odo’s vessel was already docked at Deep Space Nine after aiding the USS Grissom which was damaged by an Ion storm in the Gamma Quadrant. Starfleet Command was already aware of their presence when we sent a message to them regarding Kratz. Starfleet Command had two Starships escort them here. I’m sure the Glen can verify that information.” Bremer rebutted.

“How long are they planning to remain here?” Mavek asked.

“I’m not sure, once Odo either convinces Kratz to leave with them, or when he refuses.” Bremer replied.

“You would let them leave a Changeling here? You know the genocide the brought upon our people at the end of the Dominion War!” Koval added.

Bremer nodded, he knew, he’d seen it first hand after Dominion forces had surrendered. “I do, but you also know the Federation and Dominion have treaties in place that allow for peaceful exploration of the Gamma Quadrant by the Federation, Klingons, Romulans, and Cardassians as well as limited exploration of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants by the Dominion. It’s even allowed for First Ramata’tar to remain aboard Starbase 400 as an exchange officer...and you’ve never protested his presence.”

“He’s not a Founder.” Mavek replied.

“Neither is Kratz.” Bremer replied back.

“We should have been informed.” Evek stated. “I’ll be filing a formal complaint with Fleet Admirals Sevlek and Nechayev, as well as the Federation Ambassador to Cardassia.”

Evek turned to leave. Koval followed. Mavek gave a respectful nod then also followed.

Janice wasn’t happy, not just at the distraction, but the fact Mike still engaged in the convocation with the Cardassians. She had no love for them, but what really upset her was that he promised there wouldn’t be any work distractions tonight. Sure, she understood it went with the uniform and position, but as a wife...he’d promised. She sat back down and took a sip of her water. She really wanted a sip, a larger sip of wine, but she knew she couldn’t.

Mike looked around the table, “I apologize for the interruption.” He reached over to hold Janice’s hand, but she slowly pulled it away and put it in her lap.

Lwazanda shook her head "Not at all, duty is duty."

Mike nodded. It was true, but he didn't like the way he was interrupted. He looked over at Janice again, then over to the side lost in thought.

Lwazanda started in on a story about her time on Earth, "Oh it was absolutely charming. I , and my staff, were put up in a castle in Monaco. Such a gorgeous little nation." She sipped her wine, the latest in innumerable glasses. "Stannis didn't have the same sentiments, he thought it was too cold."

Kon, who had just reached for his glass, squeezed the crystal goblet tightly at the sound of Stannis' name. The glass broke in his hand. He stood, brushing the glass from his lap. He stared angrily at Lwazanda. "You're really going to bring him up right now?"

Lwazanda rolled her eyes, and laughed. "You really must be more careful darling, you could have hurt yourself."

"I think you took care of that." He said, sliding his chair back in.

Lwazanda set her glass down. "Kon, darling, sit down."

"Admiral Bremer, Janice, thank you for a wonderful evening." said the Betazoid man cordially, he turned a walked away from the table.

"Escuse me a moment." Lwazanda said, throwing her napkin off her lap, and bounding after Kon.

"Kon. If you walk away now, were done!" She called. "I will not fight to be with someone I know isn't doing the same."

Kon listened as Lwazanda spoke, but continued his pace. Leaving her behind.

Lwazanda returned to the table. "Sorry about that." She said with a smile. "Should we get dessert?"

Mike had a concerned look on his face, standing as Lwazanda returned to the table. He'd seen couples 'spat' before, but this was much more and seemed much deeper than just an average argument.

Janice tried to flash a smile, "I think we should go. Dinner was wonderful, while it lasted." She glanced at Mike who was still standing. "You should really try to talk to Kon, calmly, if not tonight in the morning." Janice stood, glanced at Mike then at the waiter that had come over to clean up the mess.

Lwazanda nodded to the couple. "I think that I'll stay a while longer."

She snapped her fingers at the waiter. "Find me a place at the bar. And find a good bottle of Klingon Bloodline. The real stuff, not synthetic. "

Lwazanda resumed her conversation with Mike and Janice. "Thank you both for a wonderful night" she paused, shaking her head "Well, just thank you." She smiled warmly at them.
