Mission: Episode 90 - The Great Relink
Location: Starbase 400, Bremers' Quarters
Timeline: MD3 2120hrs, Following 'Double Date from Hell'

ON:

After returning to their Quarters following their dinner date, Janice checked on Christopher, told Joanne Worth thank you for watching him, showed her out, and went straight to the bedroom. She was still upset at Mike for allowing the Cardassians to interrupt them.

Mike tried to talk to her but Janice didn’t respond, so Mike went into his small office and checked his waiting messages. The first told him about major changes at the top of the Starfleet Chain of Command. Long time Fleet CnC had finally retired, as did Admirals Nakamura, Ross, and Paris. Fleet Admiral Akaar was not the Starfleet CnC, Fleet Admiral Toddman the Deputy CnC, and Vice Admiral Janeway the Chief of Starfleet Operations. Several new faces were now on the Starfleet Command Staff, most of them Mike had met in passing at one time or another, but he didn’t know them like he did the retirees.

Another message followed that also caught his eye. Federation, Klingon, and Cardassian representatives were all meeting at Deep Space Nine to outline a formal treaty of alliance between the Cardassians and the Federation/Klingon Alliance. Mike was curious, wondering why the C’hakilians weren’t invited to the conference since they too had an alliance in place with the Federation and the Klingons, however since the Cardassians and C’hakilians had very little interaction between them, it was possible they had decided to sit it out and go with whatever decision the Federation and Klingons made. Besides, they still had their hands full with reconstruction following their brief war with the Krazzle. With the Typhon Pact powers cooperating as well as they well, most recently following the Krazzle invasion of the C’hakilian Empire, having the Cardassians formally allied with the Federation and the Klingons helped to keep the two sides balanced and in check.

The next message was a request for Mike to attend a conference in a few weeks on to discuss continued exchange and liaison programs between the Federation, Cardassians, C’hakilians, and Klingons, as well as planning joint fleet exercises and mutual defense contingencies. With the Ares Operational Theater encompassing most of the Federation border with the Klingons and C’hakilians, as well as the Romulans, Krazzle, Gorn, and Tholians, Mike had to be at the conference. After the outburst earlier in the evening, he hoped he wouldn’t have to hear anything from any smug Cardassian Legits.

He sent replies out to each message, then leaned back in his chair. He decided he’d use the USS Princeton to attend the meeting instead of the Pegasus. He wanted to see the old Constitution class refit get a little use following her more resent work. It would also give time for engineers to do some preventative maintenance aboard the Pegasus.

Mike closed out of his messages, took a shower, then climbed into bed. As he laid down, Janice turned the other way, away from Mike. There wasn't anything really to say, he knew she was mad and why, and that in the morning she'd feel better. Mike leaned over, kissed his wife on the top of her head, then rolled over to get some sleep too.
