The room felt cold with a slight breeze running through the room almost as if someone was softly blowing down the back of his neck. He shuddered for a second thinking someone was there and turned to face behind him. There was nothing, it was just a figment of his imagination.
He had been taken from the comforts of what he knew, his whole life and planted in a vast and massive space station without a friend or connection in sight. The only pleasure and release he had was his console which of course he had accessorised in his own way. Everything on the display was laid out to perfection and he had quick access to almost any computer command his authorisation would allow him access to.
That was one of the many frustrating things about working aboard the Star Base and the main one was fractal encryption. Back at home if he needed to find something fast he could access it, upload an algorithm, byspass the spectral base programming and he would be in. Star Fleet on the slip side was a little different.
Years had been spent at the corps of engineers creating databases and memory cores that were able to withstand almost all attempts and breaking in and of course they were heavily shielded against attack.
The curiousness of it all was something that Willam was struggling to forget. He had changed his life style to such an extent he now found himself following someone else's rules where disobeying an order could mean a prison sentence.
He had left his family back at home on a muted note. The family were not happy with the choices he made to leave the family home. His place was there to run the household and care for his parents as they entered their old age. It was the only time they ever truly gave him any attention. That was when he was leaving.
So in all a lot would think Willam was ok with being by himself as he had spent so much time alone in the past. It wasn't something he wanted for himself. This choice to expand his mind and his skills was totally worrying and exciting mixed with the fear of one day having to go hand to hand combat with a Klingon. His mind ran wild for a few moments.
He slid his hand across the dust free glass panel that housed the keys for the computer console and turned up the temperature to the room. The cold breeze instantly faded and he felt more comfortable.
"Ensign Monsoon - You are required in Flight Ops in 30 Minutes" The computer announced as a reminder to the ensign.
There was a pause for a moment while he wondered whether to respond to the computer voice reminding him of where he needed to be. He looked out of the window for a short second and decided not to answer her.
Over in the corner was the freshly pressed Star Fleet uniform. This time teamed with a red undershirt to signify his area of operation.
The holodeck simulation he had previously was a strange encounter with a real life officer. Well in the context of the holodeck the officer was a computer generated representation of Captain Pike. The program was designed to give new ensigns the experience of dealing with different officers from different departments. It was a new skills test implemented by the academy to ensure that the officers had enough confidence to converse with varying people without intimidation. Willam missed that course at the academy and had to complete this tick box exercise a few days prior to 'tick the box'.
Willam was now suited and booted and ready for his first day on the job. He nerves were hidden by his strong facial features and his glorious thick black hair.
He stood by the mirror for a second and took a look at himself and realised what he had become. An officer in Star fleet. The one place he never thought he would end up being.
"Computer" He waited for the tone. "Take a full body snap shot of me via the interior sensors and forward the image to.......Mum and Dad"
Feeling a sense of achievement he turned back to the mirror briefly before smiling at himself and heading for the door.
