Location: T'Lar's quarters
Timeline: MD1, 2350 hrs

Alex and Deela walked into T'Lar's quarters and dismissed the babysitter. Both kids were asleep, leaving the two to talk and catch up. Alex got herself a drink and sat down. Deela joined her with a drink of her own.
Alex had seen Deela talk to Jack and was curious, "You and Jack Solomon are getting kind of chummy. Do tell. I want all of the details."
"There is not much to tell...yet." Deela smiled and took a sip of her drink, "I asked him over and we had dinner. We talked and then he went back to his quarters. That is all that happened."
"Oh come Deela. So are you guys dating or what?" Alex moved slightly closer to Deela.
"We are actually going to go on a second date. I like him but I wonder if it is too soon to get involved with someone else. We talked about my former spouses and about how they both died by someone else's hand. I told him that I was beginning to think that I should be single. But after we talked, I am willing to give us a chance."
Alex was beaming with joy, "I'm so happy for you. I really am. I think that this will be good for the kids as well. They need a male figure in their lives, especially Brandon."
"I think so too. Paul has been great for Brandon but he is more like a big brother to him. I'm grateful that Paul has spent so much time with him."
"Paul likes Brandon and they get along with each other so well. Unfortunately for Brandon, Paul will be going away to the academy next year." Alex frowned at the thought.
Deela nodded, "Yes, I was thinking about that the other day. But I do not want to jump into a new relationship too quick just so Brandon will have another person in his life before Paul leaves. I want to do it because I am in love with the person, truly in love."
Alex put her hand on Deela's, "And no one is asking you. I am sure that Brandon will be fine. They'll still be able to talk to each other. I'm going to miss him too. It seems like I had just gotten him back."
Deela smiled softly, "Empty nest syndrome is quite common you know. You will be fine." They both took another sip of their drinks, "Speaking of empty nests and kids, when are you and Lee going to have another kid? It is not like your job is too demanding anymore."
Alex set her drink down, "I've been thinking about it but I haven't really discussed it with Lee yet. I know he wants another one and so do I but I guess I am worried that I won't be a good mom. I kind of blew it with Paul."
Deela's voice went stern, "Alex, you didn't blow it! Your ex was mean, manipulative and down right sneaky! Not only that but he wanted to hurt you. He could not control you so he controlled the only thing he could, where Paul was going to live and with who!"
Alex eyes widened, "Wow Deela, why don''t you tell me how you really feel."
Deela lowered her voice, "I am sorry but I remember how you were when we first met. You were down on yourself, no self confidence and depressed. He really did a number on you back then. Now look at you. You are strong, self confident and tough."
"Thank you for saying that. I really needed to hear that and coming from you, well, it means a lot." Alex smiled once again.
Deela crisscrossed her legs, "I will tell you what. I will put my past behind me if you do. We both can start fresh."
Alex picked up her drink, "Okay, it a deal."
"Besides, Paul has already expressed how he feels about you having a child. He wants that so bad for the both of you. He wants a baby brother or sister that he can spoil."
"That's good. I was thinking about that too...how he'd feel about it. I'm glad to know that he doesn't mind."
The chime rang and in walked Paul, "Mom, it's getting late."
Alex stood up, "It is getting late. Deela, it's been fun. We'll have to do this again some time."
"You are right, we do not talk much anymore." Deela stood up as well, "Okay, goodnight the both of you."
Both Alex and Paul smiled at Deela before walking out. Alex stopped for a moment and hugged Paul. He looked at her after the hug with a quizzical look on his face, "What was that for?
Alex chuckled a little, "What? Can't a mother hug his son without there being a reason for it? I love you. I just wanted you to know that."
Paul shrugged and started to walk away. He stopped, turned and smiled, "I love you too Mom." Alex caught up to him and they continued their walk.
Deela checked on her kids then checked her schedule. She was going to give love another shot.
