Mission: Mission 87 - Disaster
Location: Starbase 400
Timeline: MD2 1805 hrs, Following 'Talks Recessed, Plot Thickens...'

ON:

Promenade

R'nard made his way to the Promenade, but wherever the perpetrator was, he covered his trail like an expert. He shook his head. Whoever it was, he knew how to lose himself in the crowd.

Alex saw R'nard and walked up to him, "I have to say, he's good." She wanted to scream as she hated to be foiled. She hit her combadge, "Harrison to T'Lar, we lost him."

T'Lar could hear the anger and disappointment in her voice, "Understood." She wasn't happy, not one bit but she didn't reflect that in her voice. Alex didn't need that, none of them did. They did their best and that's all she could ask for.

"Yes, he is good." said R'nard. "And for prrobably the firrst time, I have a nemesis. One who is at least my equal, if not my better." He turned to Alex. "Are you familiar with a character by Arthur Conan Doyle, named Professor James Moriarty? He was the nemesis of Sherlock Holmes, so brrilliant, Holmes could only defeat him at the cost of his own life. Whoever this assasssin is, he is to us what Moriarty was to Holmes. And we will have to become just as clever. He will be back, I feel it."

Maal growled in frustration and went into the Klingon restaurant to chat with the owner there about things.

The commlink was still open for T'Lar to hear.

T'Lar cut in, "Your opinion is based on an assumption that he has escaped the starbase. Until that is confirmed, we continue to look and question everyone who might have seen something. And if he has escaped off this base, then we had better be ready for him the next time."

Ops

Clifford walked over to Roebuck, "Once we get back to normal, Lt Commander we must devise a way to take transporters offline and keep them locked out. Perhaps some form of internal encryption which prevents them from being used even if re-powered".

Roebuck nodded. "Aye sir."

Sick Bay

When Janice arrived in Sick Bay, she saw Ra' Graline still standing 'guard' over Mike. K'Temoc was also still there and standing on the opposite side of the bed from Graline. Mike was laying on a bio bed, with the EMH scanning over him. K'Temoc walked over and hugged his sister-in-law.

The EMH set his tricorder down. "He's stabilized. I've managed to neutralize the anticoagulant. It's a type used by the C'hakilians."

Both Graline and K'Temoc looked up when hearing that. Janice had ignored the EMH after he said Mike was stable.

"I'm sending that information to Security right now." The EMH added.

"Thank you." K'Temoc said. "With that information I have a feeling they'll also find the bomb was made with C'hakilian components too."

"The bomb wasss meant forr me, and Admirral Brremerr sssaved my life by nearrly sssacrificcing hisss. Thisss doesssn't change anything between ourr goverrnmentsss, howeverr perrsssonally I ressspect him." Graline commented.

"Ra, we don't know if this attack was by a lone assassin, or sanctioned by the C'hakilian government, of if the C'hakilians were even aware of it. I urge you not to retaliate." K'Temoc replied.

Graline grunted. He wanted to kill every C'hakilian right now for the attempt on his life, but he knew his people needed resources and they didn't need to do anything that could jeopardize that.

"We will not rretaliate at thisss time." Graline finally replied.

K'Temoc nodded, then tapped his commbadge, "First Ramata'tar report to Sick Bay.

In the meantime, Janice was holding her husband's hand. He was still unconscious, but seemed to be breathing easier.

Several minutes later, the big Jem'Hadar arrived in Sick Bay and walked over to K'Temoc.

"I need to get to Ops. The Admiral is stable now. I want you to remain here, no one comes in that's not authorized. Understand?" K'Temoc said to Ramata'tar.

The Jem'Hadar nodded, then eyed Graline for a moment before taking a position beside the biobed Bremer was laying in.

Ops

K'Temoc arrived in Ops and gathered T'Lar, Pike, Clifford, and Greenwood around. On the way, he'd also requested Sevlek and Hurd join them in Ops and a moment later they also arrived.

"I'm sure you all know about the EMH's report, the anticoagulant on the assassin's blade is of C'hakilian origin. I've asked Graline not to retaliate at this time, and he's agreed." K'Temoc paused a moment. "General, I'd like for you and your Staff to reach out to the C'hakilian Crown Prince, advise them of what's happened and see if they have any knowledge of it. Push a little. Yinsil is an honorable man, but we need to know if they sanctioned this attack."

She looked at K'Temoc, "Will get on that right away," Jewel replied as she looked at him. She then left the bridge and made her way down to Diplomatic Office to work with her team and contact the Crown Prince.

K'Temoc then looked over to Sevlek and T'Lar to see if they had anything else to add.

T'Lar was still trying to make sense of the whole situation. This was her assessment of the situation, "If the C'hakilians wanted to kill someone, it would be illogical to use a weapon that could be traced back to them. It is a fact that Admiral Bremer has made a few enemies along the way. It is possible that the attacker was waiting for an opportune time to act and he found it."

"I'm not so sure the assassin was after Mike though. Do we have an investigations team at the scene of the attack?" K'Temoc replied.

T'Lar bowed her head in agreement with his statement, "Whoever he was after, he left a mess for us to clean up. The explosion did some damage to the area. It has been blocked off and I have asked the damage control team to hold off on assessing the damage until I get an investigation team there."

Sevlek listened to T'Lar, then said, "I have assets investigating routes onto and off of the station." A pause, "However, it is unlikely that this individual has made any mistakes that will lead directly to his or her identity. The signature is reminiscent of a field operative's report concerning an Assassin for hire that I read several years ago."

K'Temoc then asked, "Has anything been learned about the explosive? Has Lokran been able to track whoever did this down?"

Andrew shook his head, "The only thing we have on the explosion is the partial scan, but a science team is on the way there to see what they can gather from the scene. If you wish Mr Roebuck can provide all the information we have, here. Commander Lokran lost the intruder in the crowd on the promenade, so in all it's not much to go on. One thing we can say about the intruder is that he/she has an intimate knowledge of this starbase, so has possibly been here for a while. The base is still under lockdown with shields up so whoever it was should still be here." Andrew turned and looked around the room, "But if he knows as much about this base as I think he does he could already be off base."

T'Lar had come to the same conclusion, that the man had been there on the base for a while in wait. "Captain Harrison and Maal are still questioning the shop owners and the people on the promenade. If he was able to get off this base, we can be sure that he WILL be back."

Lee nods "It very well may be possible that he has left the base already. Hopefully Alex and Maal can find something out."

K'Temoc nodded. "Let's get someone down to the scene of the crime, see what they can learn from there."

R'nard had paused to think for a long time. Something was wrong about this. Somebody was trying to make it look like the C'halkilians were behind this. The clues were too obvious. Who was this perpetrator that had eluded him at every turn? He rushed to Ops to look at any security cameras who were focused on the route the assassin took. Finding out who it was would be a big plus in finding him. Or her. It wasn't certain either way.

K'Temoc saw R'nard arrived in Ops and walk over to the group.

"Admirals, may I suggest that Commander Lokran and Lieutenant Commander Roebuck get down to the explosion sight and run a full investigation while General Hurd talks with the C'hakilians and Admiral Sevlek with the Krazzle. We can't keep the Station locked down forever, and we all agree that this guy has outsmarted us...this time." K'Temoc said.

T'Lar acknowledged him, "I concur. While they are doing that, I am going to first check on Admiral Bremer, then meet with Captain Harrison and Sergeant Maal. If they haven't found anything yet, I doubt that they will." Not only did R'nard lose the attacker, her Betazoid senses didn't pick up on the attacker either. That was the foremost thing playing in the back of her mind.

Sevlek watched and listened to T'Lar. Technically, with Admiral Bremer out of commission in the infirmary, this was her station. He was in command of a large swathe of territory and personnel. He felt her slight confusion and said, "Indeed. It would be prudent to send a forensics specialist as well. If you require further assistant, Lieutenant R'k'n'd from my staff would be able to offer some assistance. It is unlikely he will be able to allow you access to the files he could research, but he could inform me and then I could determine if it qualified as a need-to-know circumstance."

Everyone nodded and broke up into smaller groups to continue their work...
