Mission:
Mission 87 - Disaster
Location: Starbase 400
Timeline: MD2 1450hrs, following 'Let somebody else do the talking'
OOC:Mike - This will take place after the hour break. We'll start just before the Krazzle return to the Briefing Room.
ON:
Bremer never left the room, he'd been looking over PADDs and reports. He felt as if there really wasn't much else to discuss. The Krazzle wanted their system back, in return they would return the C'hakilian systems, and war would be averted. It was a no brainer. The key was making the Krazzle wait to get their system and all of its resources back as long as possible, without making it seem the Federation was making them wait.
R'nard had been silent during the time the Krazzle had been there. "There seems to be progrress despite appearances." he finally said.
Jewel walked back into the room and looked around. She noticed R'nard and nodded to him before she took a seat and waited on everyone else. She wondered what was going to happen next. It seems like she hasn't had the chance to speak yet. But, she figured she probably get her chance soon.
Lee walked into the room giving everyone a nod before taking his seat.
T'Lar and Harrison entered the room together. T'Lar moved to where Bremer was and Harrison seated herself next to her husband.
Once everyone was back in the room, Federation and Krazzle alike, Mike spoke first.
“We’ve given careful thought to your requests. In the interest of galactic peace, we agree with your lost systems being returned to the Krazzle Empire…” Mike paused for a brief moment, then continued, “...only after Federation Representatives verify the Krazzle have returned all lost systems to the C’hakilian Empire.”
Several in Graline’s Staff expressed their displeasure with Bremer’s proposal, but Graline himself sat quietly.
Mike then looked toward Hurd, “Our Chief Diplomatic Officer, Brigadier General Hurd has another point that needs to be addressed, the humanitarian needs of those on conquered systems.”
"Yes, we are concerned about the safety of the C'hakilian people you have as prisoner as well as the people on the conquered worlds. I am concerned that they are not being treated fairly as well as the food they need to survive." Jewel stated as she looked at Graline, "So the question is and I want the truth, have your people been treating them fairly as well as giving them the food that they need?" She asked bluntly.
Graline straightened up in his chair, a smirk on his face. "Krrazzle do not take prrisonerrsss." He then looked over at Mike and the two glared at each other, eye to eye.
Mike knew that was a lie. Graline had held prisoners from the Pegasus-A when the two first battled each other in 2374. After a moment, Graline continued.
"C'hakiliansss on worldsss we acquirred durring the warr have been unharmed. We will allow them to eat, feed themssselvesss with resssourcesss frrom theirr own planetsss. Asss agrreed to durring the firssst peacce conferrencce, we have been rreleasssing C'hakilianss that ssurrrrenderrred to uss in battle."
Bremer looked at T'Lar and Sevlek, wondering if they had anything to add. This was all going too easy.
T’Lar didn't see Bremer look her way as she was too busy watching and studying Graline. He being so compliant was going against everything she knew about the Krazzle. They’re a warrior race and like the Klingons, they're aggressive, argumentative and not compliant at all. It was eating away at her. She let it slip out of her mouth what she was thinking, “Or so you say.”
Graline shot T'Lar a look, anger in his eyes. He started to bare his teeth, but then suddenly relaxed and let the comment pass.
Sevlek watched and listened, everything was going as he and his staff thought it would. Graline was being predictable, outlining the dire circumstances that Starfleet Intelligence thought the Krazzle economy was in after the initial hostilities ended. Now here he was to follow through with the last of his orders from the Security Council, "The Federation Council would also like to question the Krazzle government's intentions to provide reparations to the governments on the opposing side of your government." Sevlek watched and waited for the outburst that many expected would come from this revelation.
Graline jumped to his feet, outraged. At the same time several in his delegation also started voicing their displeasure. Graline slammed his fist onto the conference table and glared at Sevlek...but after a few moments, he took a deep breath and slowly sat back down.
"What, kind of rreparrationsss?" Graline finally asked.
"Duranium, tritanium, dilithium and other natural resources used in the constructions of starships, freighters, transport vessels and similar." Sevlek responded. His orders were clear. Find out how badly they needed the system in question. Reports from spies and contacts in the Krazzle government reported their industrial-military complex was near the breaking point and that is the sole reason they actually went to war with the C'hakilians.
It was likely they would talk down the number of resources or the varied kinds to those that are more accessible. Duranium, and especially dilithium, were in somewhat of a short supply in Krazzle space. Sevlek continued watching and waiting.
Graline leaned back in his chair while two of his Staff leaned in to whisper to him. At the same time, Sergeant Taz leaned in toward Federation Flag Officers, "One of them isss rreminding him they need thossse resssourrccesss to rrebuild their battle losssesss, and the otherr isss telling him they can't give away precciousss resssourrccesss.
Bremer nodded, then tapped a few commands on the PADD he had on the table, bringing up the area map of Krazzle space and showing its borders with the Federation's Reayan Expansion Territory and C'hakilian space. One of the problems with this agreement was the fact the C'hakilians would no longer have a shared border with the Federation, another was the fact DS14 and Starbase 611 in orbit of Kovar would be pinched between the Krazzle and Romulans again. It would be a small price to pay for peace and meant defenses in that area.
After a few moments, Graline waived his Staff back as he leaded back in his chair and straightened up. "We will give two thousssand metric tonsss of each to the C'hakiliansss, not the Federration."
Bremer looked over at Sevlek, wondering if that would be enough for the Council. What Mike thought about was, if the Krazzle was willing to hand over that much in resources...even though two thousand metric tons wasn't a lot in the grand scheme of things...without arguing meant that systems was much more rich in resources than the Federation estimated. Then again, asking for more could break down the talks and no one wanted that either. It was a fine line they were walking.
Sevlek noticed Bremer's look. Sevlek made sure that Bremer received a brief concerning what the Security Council was looking for. The Vulcan nodded and looked from Bremer to Graline as he said, "Perhaps we should take a short recess so that I may confer with Councillor T'Latrek and the Crown Prince of C'hakilia via subspace."
Graline looked visibly frustrated. "Then we sshould rreturn to ourr ssship asss well." He slowly stood which caused the Federation delegation also stand.
Bremer nodded, "Of course."
