Ops
Bremer was alerted that Graline was heading for the Briefing Room finally. Mike checked the time and decided to wait ten more minutes before sending someone in to let Graline know Hurd, Sevlek, T'Lar, and Bremer had been delayed and would be there soon.
About the same time, Captain Greenwood passed through the doors into Ops, having just returned from his ELOA.
"Ryan, good to have you back. How was your time off?" Bremer asked.
"All is well sir." Ryan said.
He was ready to get the Avenger back up and running after a long LOA.
Mike nodded toward Ryan, he understood. “Give Captain Clifford a hand here once you get settled in. I don’t expect trouble from the Krazzle ship, but let’s be ready for anything.”
Ryan nodded to the Admiral. "Understood sir. I will coordinate with the Captain immediately."
He paused for a moment realizing he was about to leave without asking to be dismissed.
"If I may be dismissed."
Andrew Clifford took note of the Admirals orders to Captain Greenwood.
Mike smiled and nodded, “Dismissed.” Mike made a mental note to address the formality in Ops. While he was glad his Officers and Crew respected him, Mike always tried to be a little bit relaxed in Ops just like he likes it on the Bridge of the Pegasus. Since it was ‘his’ assignment and he was the direct CO, there was no need to snap to attention every time he entered Ops, as well as no need to request permission to be dismissed.
Ryan had always been a "workaholic" even after his move to command from engineering. This was no different. Although they would be monitoring Krazzle, it was a good opportunity for him to get back into the swing of the things.
Mike then looked over at his Flag Staff, “Ready to get this over with?”
Jewel looked at Mike, "As ready as I'll ever be Admiral," Jewel stated looking at him then everyone else.
Sevlek nodded to Bremer, "Indeed." The Vulcan had spent 9 hours on a secure subspace communication with the entirety of the Federation Council's Security Council. He was well briefed on how to handle Granline.
T’Lar nodded, "Now that we are all in agreement, shall we proceed?"
Briefing Room
Alex stood as she observed their impatient guests. Ten minutes had already passed by. Graline's impatience was becoming obvious. The silence was killing her, "Once again, we must apologize for the Admiral's delay. Is there anything I can get for you while you're waiting?"
Graline looked back at Harrison and snarled. He started to reach for his communicator when the doors opened.
“Ra’ Graline, thank you for coming.” Bremer said as he, T’Lar, Sevlek, Hurd, and Sergeant Taz entered the Briefing Room. No apologies, Bremer didn’t even acknowledge the Krazzle had been kept waiting for as long as they did.
Bremer motioned for everyone to take a seat. Taz stood behind Bremer’s chair and as Mike glanced around the room he caught a quick glimpse of Lokran for a brief second before his Security Officer disappeared into the dark corner again.
Without giving the Krazzle time to complain, Bremer started off, “Let’s get down business.” He looked over at the Vulcan Admiral, “Admiral Sevlek.”
Jewel took a seat as she felt that she didn't have the energy at the moment to stand so she took a seat and waited her turn to talk. She still was nervous but didn't let anyone see that in her. Expecially the Krazzle as they would try to gain control. She had a serious look on her face.
R'nard was content to watch. He had previously seen that he was noticed by the Krazzle more than any other, and he wondered about it. Had any of his people been out here? He doubted it.
Sevlek didn't even bother sitting down. In true Vulcan fashion, he calculated a vocal tone and body posture designed to assert superiority over the Krazzle, which they quickly noticed. When he began speaking, the words were measured, direct and extremely assured, "This gathering is to solidify the basis for the treaty between the Federation Alliance including the C'hakilian government and between the Krazzle government."
Sevlek took a PADD from a yeoman standing behind him, activated and said, "I have been ordered by the Federation Security Council to ensure you are aware of how seriously the Federation is taking this matter." He paused as Graline started to bare his teeth, then quickly stopped once Sevlek's eyes were firmly locked on his. Sevlek continued, "If the terms agreed to at the initial cessation of hostilities and all terms agreed to at the talks following that event are not honored or met, I have been authorized to declare an immediate state of war with the Krazzle government and its allies to retake all former C'hakilian systems."
Lee stands there next to Alex watching everything keeping his senses open to anything.
Bremer waited for a response from Graline, but the Krazzle were talking among themselves. Mike then glanced back at Sergeant Taz.
Taz was fixed on the Krazzle delegation. After a moment, he leaned down toward Bremer and spoke as softly as he could, “Grrline’s aids are advising peacce. They arre ssaying they’rre fleet would not be able to rrepel a combined Federration. Klingon, Carrdasssian, C’hakilian asssault.” The Krazzle Sergeant paused, then added, “Grraline’s forreign affairres aid seayes the rreset of the Typhon Pact will seupporrt them if the Federration Alliancce attackes, but they wouldn’t be in position to counterr-attack for seix monthes orr sso.”
Bremer nodded, “Thank you.” He then glanced over to Sevlek. He knew the Vulcan would of overheard and Sevlek gave a typical Vulcan nod.
“Graline.” Bremer called out, “Just so you know how serious the Federation Alliance is taking this matter, we currently have a fleet of one-hundred and seventy-five Federation, Klingon, and Cardassian vessels within range of Krazzle space, not to mention the vessels we have within C’hakilian territory that can quickly be redeployed as an attack force...of the vessels we have here at Starbase 400. We’ve also been authorized to take you and your Staff into custody.”
Mike knew that last part would get a reaction, he just wanted sure which one. Would Graline and his Aids back down, would they try to truly negotiate, or would they attack? The third option seemed extremely unlikely, Graline didn’t seem to like the ‘no win scenario and the first option didn’t seem to likely either. No...the Krazzle would talk, some kind of agreement would be reached today, even if it did serve to only buy time for both sides.
After a few moments of conferring with his Staff, Graline stood and took a deep breath. “We arre willing to rreturn all terrritory we took frrom the C’hakilianss to them, in rreturn, they have to rreturrn our losst ssysstem, and the Federration Alliancce musst agrree not to crrosss into Krazzle sspace. We will give, asssurancess, not to crrosss into Federration, Klingon, Carrdasssian, or C’hakilian sspace, what you call a Non-Aggrresssion Pact.”
Bremer was stunned, never did he expect the Krazzle to fold so easily. Were the Krazzle that worried about a war with the Federation Alliance or were they up to something. What was their end game here? Mike looked over at T’Lar, Sevlek, Hurd, and then back to Graline who was still standing...this Aids looking up at him and then back to the Federation group.
“Let uss, ass you Humanss ssay, take five?” Graline said. “May ssome of ourr perrssonnel make usse of yourr Prromenade forr food and drrink? We will prromisse no weaponss.”
Bremer thought for a moment, then stood. “All right. We will have extra Security and Marines in the area to ensure both sides behave.”
Graline nodded.
Mike motioned for Sergeant Taz to show Graline and his staff to the Promenade and as they left the Briefing Room, the Security Officers outside followed along.
Mike looked around the room at his Staff and took a breath, “Now that seemed out of character for Graline. Thoughts?”
She looked at Mike, she wasn't sure about this one bit. "That was a bit too easy, I don't like the looks of this." Jewel replied as she felt even more uneasy about this. "I have a bad feeling about all this," Jewel added as she looked at Mike.
Bremer nodded, then looked over to T'Lar, Sevlek, Pike, and Harrison.
Harrison had to agree with Jewel. "I concur. I've been observing Graline and in the short time I've spent with him, he doesn't seem the type to give in so easily."
Lee gave a nod, "To me it seems like they are hiding something."
T'Lar didn't have much to offer except for the obvious. "We are all thinking the same thing so we need to ask ourselves what do they gain by agreeing to this besides time? " She heard what Taz told Bremer about the Krazzle's conversation regarding needing six months for a counterattack if need be. What were they missing?
Mike looked over at Sevlek, "What of strategic value is in the territory that the C'hakilians took from the Krazzle could they be wanting back so bad?"
Sevlek lowered his voice so only the other Flag Officers, and those with heightened auditory facilities, could hear, "After the war, Gra'line is facing the real possibility of a civil war within the Krazzle clan structure. The system the C'hakilians took is considered a holy site to the Krazzle people in general. However, Intelligence believes this idea was cultivates by their Intelligence agencies over the last 400 years because the system is the richest system in C'hakilian or Krazzle space. Large natural deposits of duranium, dilithium, rubinium, zenite and galicite are located on all 14 planets of the system and an estimate 40% of the planetoids in the system."
Sevlek paused as he handed the PADD back to his yeoman. "The population of the system is estimated at 4,603,023 Krazzle or servitor species. All of them were devoted to mining."
Mike thought the information over. He didn't want to just hand back all of those resources to the Krazzle and thus to the Typhon Pact. Part of him wanted to just have the treaty signed so the Krazzle would be off the Station. Perhaps a time table of transition with that system being the last to be returned. It would give the C'hakilians time to mine some of the resources for themselves and even give time for them to sabotage the mining facilities. Mike really didn't want to see a Krazzle civil war either, because it would inevitably spill over into Federation space and with Starbase 349 and the Raeya system considered to be 'neutral' right now and not apart of the Federation it could be a major problem and very bloody.
Mike looked around at this Staff, "I want options, perhaps even time. The C'hakilians are insistent they get their lost systems back, and even in light of this information I think they'd still be willing to return it in order to get their lost systems back." He paused a moment, then added, "Advise the Krazzle, we'll reconvene in an hour.
