Mission:
Mission 86 - Discovery
Location: Marine Country
Timeline: MD1-1356hrs
ON:
Thomas Jackson loved surprises. The sudden appearance of a Marine Armor element in the division was considered a very good surprise. He looked on from the cat walk above as the hover heads started off loading their equipment. Nothing made him happier than watching marines at work. He stepped down from the catwalk, and approached what looked like the person in charge. As he got closer, the scar faced major looked very familiar to him. Then the realization hit him hard as he stopped in front of him. Without thinking, Jackson spoke. "General Pepper?!?"
Jason turned around to see an older version of a familiar face, last time he saw this man he was one of the many Marine officers under Jason's command. Jason tapped his collar then pointed at Jacksons rank.
"I believe its Major Pepper for now, It seems fleet brass don't like to be proven wrong" He answered with a sly smile.
Jackson heard the words. Jason's situation was one of many other examples that made Jackson question his loyalty to the Federation sometimes. One more than one occasion, he contemplated leaving the Marines, and settling for a career in Alpha Centauri's Self Defense Force. His loyalty to his home world was never under self scrutiny.
"Okay, officially you are now Major Pepper. But you will always be General Pepper in my book. By the way, I only heard a rumor that we were getting armor. Your unit is a very good surprise to me."
Jason looked back as some of the light tanks rolled in on tracks then went into hover mode to be moved without damaging the station decking.
"we have brought a tank for every eventuality. As for our arrival, SFMC command wanted to keep it low key. Its not everyday an entire armored battalion travels without a combat escort. It was though to be safer to pass off our transports as a civilian"
Jackson was admiring the tanks. Even though Infantry was his initial background, he learned to appreciate the tread heads over the years.
"It is also a good way to make the curious underestimate the Division's strength. We also don't want to scare the natives into thinking this base just became an offensive staging area....at least not officially. It's good to be prepared for anything, especially with our heads hanging out here in the breeze. Well Sir, I will let you see to your unit. And, as you already know, my door is always open for official, as well as off duty activities. It is great to see you."
