Mission:
Mission 86 - Discovery
Location: Starbase 400, Briefing Room
Timeline: MD1 1035hrs Following 'Life On SB400 Continues...'
ON:
Starbase 400, Ops Briefing Room
Roebuck was the first to arrive. He'd handled Security matters and VIP visits before, but never for six members of the Federation Security Council. Not only did he have to account for them, but for their Staffs, their Security, and anyone else they happened to bring along...
Sevlek stepped off the turbolift with Zandusky and Andrenicus following closely. Andrenicus was speaking, "T'Latrek has asked some questions about how you plan on keeping the peace between the C'hakilian and Krazzle governments from SB400, rather than at DS14."
Zandusky spoke next, "I've also been contacted by Councillors Gleer and Krim, they also questioned the level of involvement you could have in the ongoing issues between those two powers while being on Starbase 400."
Sevlek nodded as they entered the briefing room, "We will address those issues when they arrive." He noticed Roebuck already waiting in the room and acknowledged him, "Commander Roebuck."
"Admiral." Roebuck replied, he was still sizing up the Vulcan Admiral.
Jackson arrived to the Briefing Room shortly afterward. He was not sure as to the nature of the upcoming mission brief, except that the warning order from Ops was marked Priority. He was aware that the regimental commander was also dispatched to this meeting, but has yet to arrive. He noticed Commander Roebuck speaking with a full admiral who he was not familiar with. He approached the pair. "Good morning gentlemen." He took a seat, and waited for the briefing.
Romans walked through the briefing room doors, a large PADD in front of his face. As he crossed the threshold he lowered the PADD and looked around at those present. All new faces. "Morning," he said as he proceeded to a seat open and tucked his head back into his reports. He was determined to be done in the next 2 days.
K'Wor, Varn, and Ramata'tar entered the Briefing Room and took seats on the window side of the conference table. None of them said anything...K'Wor because as the Acting Chief of Security he was supposed to show leadership and not speculate even if he was wondering as much as anyone else, Varn because he was hoping for battle and his Klingon blood was burning for it, and Ramata'tar because as a Jem'Hadar he was bound to do as ordered.
After a moment, K'Wor nodded to Roebuck and to Admiral Sevlek. He then noticed new faces in the room, a Marine and a Doctor and he respectfully nodded to each.
Jackson continued to wait for the briefing. He had a PADD in his hand, ready for mission notes. He glanced up occasionally to see the growing group of officers in the room. The recent trio to come in caught his eye. Throughout the years, he has grown used to Klingons, both as Star Fleet members, as well as exchange officers. He had a high respect for them. The third member of this trio had his complete attention for a moment. A Jem'Hadar soldier wearing the rank of a First. Noting that this did not cause any concern amongst the other officers, he quickly assumed that there was no need for concern, and he relaxed. He concluded that this was going to be a unique base to be assigned to. Times change, and he already knew that the war was over, and he needed it to stay over.
Romans brought his PADD down a little lower away from his face, realizing that he had become so encumbered by all the reports that the PADD was blocking his view, he noted that there were quite a few new faces and alien races in the room. Recognizing the many alien races in the room he tapped a few keys on his PADD and added to his desktop monitor the Klingon, Vulcan, and Jem'Hadar physiological profiles so he could study up once he returned to his office.
T'Lyn quickly walked to the observation lounge, when she walked in she noticed that everyone had already arrived, "Sorry I am late..." She said as she took her seat next to the Marine XO. She nodded to him and everyone else around the room.
Soon after M'Kota walked in nodded and quietly took her seat and waited for the meeting to start. She was curious as to what this was all about.
Jackson greeted his fellow Marine, that removed his train of thought from the Jem'Hadar who was in the room.
Romans set his PADD down, the room was filling up and he didn't want to be so enthralled in the reports that he missed something, also he figured it might be best to start introductions of who he is, being that things would be quite busy soon. "Hey guys, I think I might be the new blood on the station, so just wanted to give you a heads up, my names Jason Romans here, the new Assistant Chief Medical Officer." Romans said, as he took a breath, "How is everyone's morning so far?"
Roebuck acknowledged the new Doctor,”Welcome aboard Starbase 400, the Chief Medical Officer is away on the Essex but Doctor Mclintock and I can meet with you later today to help you get settled in.”
"Sounds good Sir." Romans replied.
K’Wor also added a “Welcome aboard.”
T'Lyn just raised her eyebrow but kept quiet, one thing she didn't care for and that was medical officers.
After a moment, Roebuck spoke up to start the meeting, “Okay, listen up.” It was clear he was used to briefing Security Personnel, not conducting a Senior Staff meeting. “We have some VIPs on their way to the Station, six members of the Federation’s Security Council along with their Staffs and Security Details. Admiral Sevlek has additional information, as well as how he’d like Station Security and Marines to be deployed.”
Jackson was now thinking to himself; Security Council members, out here? That would make SB400 a nice, and juicy target for any element who would want to destabilize both this sector, as well as the Federation itself. He glanced at T'Lyn, hoping she picked up on his concern.
T'Lyn looked at him still not sure about all of this human emotion so she failed to see his concern.
Sevlek nodded at Roebuck, "The Federation Council has decided to send 6 members of the security council to get a hands-on look at the facilities and crew of Starbase 400 to evaluate my decision to oversee the reconstruction and continuing peace processes between the Krazzle and C'hakilian governments from here, rather than from DS14." A pause, "The following members of the Federation Council's Security Council will be arriving in approximately 29 hours: Councillor T'Latrek of Vulcan, the current chairperson of the Security Council; Councillor Kellerasana zh'Faila of Andor; Councillor Bera Chim Gleer of Tellar; Councillor Krim Aldos of Bajor; Councillor Matthew Mazibuko of Earth; and Councillor Dynkorra M'Relle of Cait will be aboard the U.S.S. Federation, a Sovereign Class Starship."
"The Starship Federation will remain on station, on detached duty, for the entirety of the inspection being performed by the councillors. Expect random interviews of the crew to be conducted by the councillors and their staff. Security deployments will be drawn up in the next few hours and dispensed to all relevant staff." Sevlek looked at Zandusky, "Operations will remain on Yellow Alert for the duration of the inspection. Does anyone need clarification on any of the points mentioned?"
K’Wor had listened and made notes during the Admiral’s briefing, but he did have a question. He nervously looked around the room, seeing no one else speak up he hesitated, but remembering something he’d been taught by his father and uncle, he took a deep breath and spoke up.
“Admiral, two questions. One, should we advise Civilian traffic in and out of the Station to divert to DS6 for the time being or continue ‘business as usual’? Two, will the Councilors have their own Security personnel onboard the Station or will provide all protection?”
Romans listened as K'Wor spoke up and got a little stiff as security issues were referenced. Normally he was fine, but that was because he was familiar with the surroundings and he had always operated in a an area of space where security wasn't that much of an issue, or most likely an issue he was not made aware of. He continued to listen as K'Wor finished and then directed his attention towards the Admiral.
Archer listened to the young Acting-Ensign ask his questions, and was pleasantly surprised by the first because he'd been wondering the same thing. It would be easier to close off Starbase 400 to all incoming civilian ships, but it would also send up a 'red flag' to anyone watching that something was going on or someone special was on board...
Sevlek regarded the young Bremer and responded, "Station operations will continue as normal. Security procedures for all sensitive areas will be escalated to level 4 and Ops will remain at Yellow Alert stations for the duration of the stay of the Council members. Station personnel will supplement the security forces being brought by the visitors."
K'Wor nodded, "Yes sir."
Now Jackson had a question, and stood up to speak. "Sir. Due to the nature of these visitors, would you like the Marines to conduct roving patrols, or just maintain a QRF?"
"Marine personnel will be stationed as sentries in all sensitive areas. Conduct patrols in all heavily traveled areas." Sevlek responded.
Roebuck looked around, when no one else asked anything, he closed the meeting.
"Doctor Romans, please make sure there is extra staff in Sickbay, just in case, and we will meet shortly." After one last look around, the ended the meeting.
"You all have your orders, dismissed."
