It was official. She was one of the senior officers going to Earth. Vice Admiral T'Lar picked up Alex's son already. She caught her too late as she had already left for SB400. Alex put together her clothes for the trip to Earth. She all of the sudden realized that her son was going to be living there and her quarters weren't set up for two. She'd have to fix that after they get back.
Speaking of her son, Alex's console beeped. Sitting down, Alex smiled upon seeing her son's face. He was so excited, "It's really awesome here. Did you know that she has a tiger named Earl? She lets him roam all over the ship."
Alex laughed at the look at his face, "Yes, I know. It belonged to her first husband. Sometimes I think that T'Lar can even talk to him or at least it seemed like that. What else have you been doing?"
"Not much. She said that I can use the holodeck whenever I want."
"Well good. Hey, I have to go back to Earth for a little bit. T'Lar said that it would be okay if you stayed on the ship with her. I just don't want you to be alone."
"It's okay. Grams said that it would happen, that you'd have to go on assignments and stuff. I get it. You know, I'm not a little kid anymore. I can take care of myself. Besides, I'm sure I'll have stuff to keep me busy on the base."
"Well then, I won't worry about you. But I still feel badly that when you get here, I'll be on my way to Earth. It won't be like this always, you know?"
"Don't feel bad. I'm just glad that we can eventually be together."
"Me too." She smiled, "Well hon, I need to go. i'll see you when I get back."
"Okay, you be careful."
"Of course. Luv ya."
"Love you too." Once his face disappeared, she frowned. She was worried that she'd let him down. All she could think was about the bad timing but that was her job. Hopefully, the trip will turn out fine and that they return safely.
Alex's stomach growled. That was her cue to go eat. She left and sat down at one of the tables. She couldn't help but smile, realizing that soon, she wouldn't be eating alone anymore. It was starting to get a little lonely.
