817 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Mission 86 - Discovery
Location: Saith and Maal's quarters, SB400
Timeline: MD1 00:30 hrs, Following the Wedding

Maal entered his and Saith's quarters after bidding his family goodnight, they would be leaving Star Base 400 in the morning. He looked around and didn't see her or hear her. She must have stopped somewhere or something. He shrugged. Maal then went into the bedroom removing his clothes and then stepped into the sonic shower.

It was a turning point; Saith sat in her old quarters in the dark. She had not told Maal she still had possession of them and she was glad of it; it gave her a quite place to go and think. She knew he could locate her if he really needed to. She sipped her ale, closed her eyes and relaxed. This was the last time she would be able to retreat here. The station was filling up, new people coming every day, new shops, new officers, new ships, and they needed the room. The Quarter Master had contacted her and requested she relinquish these quarters since she and Maal now lived together. With a sigh she finished her last drink of the night and in her quarters. She dropped the glass into the replicator and headed for the door. Pausing she turned back to look at the empty space. She closed the door and notified Operations that the quarters were cleared and available.

Maal was in the shower when she arrived home. She released her hair from the pins and sitting at the vanity she began to brush it. She was still in the dress from the wedding. Her thoughts went to Maal’s family, she liked them well enough, but she had reservations. She closed her eyes and kept brushing her hair.

After a few minutes Maal finished his shower and thought he heard Saith enter their quarters, he put a pair of pants on and stepped into the bedroom to find her sitting there. He stood in the door way "Is something wrong?"

Saith’s hand paused, brush part way through her long dark hair. She opened her eyes and gazed into Maal’s eyes reflected in the mirror, “Um . . .” she cocked her head to the side and set the brush down. Turning towards him and standing she moved to him and put her arms around his neck, “I don’t think so?” she was aware of how unsure she sounded.

“I just tonight gave up my other quarters.” She confessed, “I finally told the Quartermaster he could have it.” She pursed her lips, “I guess that means I am completely in for the long haul, but I have to admit the weddings made me nervous. All I could think about it the disaster that was my birth parents marriage. Which is silly, because I actually don’t know if it was good or bad, I only know that by the time I was six I was not around them anymore. I don't really know what happened to my mother, or when.” She smiled, “however, I have decided to have a nice long talk with my parents, Josh and Gabrielle, about you, and children, and marriage and see what their point of view is.” She nervously bit her lip. “I will confess though, between work, and the weddings, releasing my old quarters, and everything, I am feeling a little pushed, but not panicked like I used to be.” Preparing herself to step back if necessary, she waited to see how he would react.

Maal put his arms around her waist and looked into her eyes:"Am sorry the weddings made you nervous. Glad to hear you are in for the long haul. You know we don't have to rush things, we can take our time. That's good to hear you are gonna have a talk with your parents."

She nodded.
"Am sorry your birth parents marriage didn't go well, but doesn't mean everything will end badly"

"I know, but," She glanced at him, "you know nothing has ever worked out for me and well things are just going well enough right now that I could hope." She grinned, but there was no humor, "that means I should get dumped on pretty soon."

He gave her a funny look:"Now why would I go and introduce you to my family if I was about to dump you?"

Saith smiled and shrugged. "I suppose you wouldn't," she admitted.

"You need to stop thinking and assuming that everyone will go bad in your life."

"I suppose, but I am fighting a lifetime of experience versus a completely new experience." She snuggled into his arms, laying her head on his broad shoulder. "Let's go to bed before we both have to report for duty." Lifting her face to see his, she smiled wickedly.

Maal gave her a huge grin before picking her up off the ground and carrying her to the bedroom.

Saith laughed as Maal picker her up and carried her away.
