Mission:
Mission 76 - Home comings
Location: Admiral Bremer's Office
Timeline: Stardate 65024.9
It was mid afternoon on SB400 and Mike was in his Ready Room. As if he didn't have enough to do and be concerned over, now this. He had sent recall orders to the Vanguard and Saratoga, and thankfully just made contact with the Endeavor whom was also on its way back.
He was hoping he could leave for Earth and focus on getting Janice home, but this would add a new twist. He'd ordered the USS Hamburg to pick up at DS6 where the Saratoga had left off with the grid and investigation, and requested Captains Worf and LaForge keep the USS Warrior and USS Challenger respectively close to SB400 just in case. He also knew Vice Admiral T'Lar with the Essex and Brigadier General Dart with the Cairo were in the area, and Vice Admiral Stryfe with the USS Alabama would be remaining on SB400, so he felt secure things around with respect to the Romulans and Tholians would be well in hand.
Mike picked up the PADD with the orders from Starfleet Command.
'Admiral Bremer, at the request of the Talosians, we require you to send a vessel to retrieve the body of Commodore Christopher Pike and bring him home to Earth for a proper burial. All proper respect is to be shown."
Simple, when reading it off the PADD, but the Talos Star Group had been deemed 'off limits' for over one hundred and twenty years. The Talosians with their mental abilities could be a real problem. Then again, Commodore Pike had probably been deceased for decades and perhaps they simply wanted the man to rest in peace. It was a big unknown. The only thing he did know, and knew Starfleet knew, and probably why they had assigned Starbase 400, was because the Commodore's only living descendent serving in Starfleet was aboard, Colonel Lee Pike.
Mike decided to play everything safe, and assigned a four ship task group to go to Talos and escort the body of the Commodore home to Earth. Colonel Pike would, of course, command the mission. As the new Marine CO, he'd also requested a change of command, the Defiant class USS Laffey was just too small for the job. Thankfully, Commander Winter had also requested a change in command from the USS Saratoga. Therefore, the two would swap vessels. The Akira class USS Saratoga would be SB400's Marine vessel now commanded by Colonel Pike, and her ability to carry many fighters and runabouts would make that job easier. Commander Winter would take command of the USS Laffey. Her tactical abilities and small size did make her a good choice for the Tactical Operations Officer. So, the Saratoga and Laffey would head to Talos. Bremer decide that the Vanguard and Endeavor also go. Since both were already away from the Station, they made logical choices. He sent word to the four COs to have their vessels rendezvous. Once they did, Pike and Winter would `swap` ships, before heading to Talos.
Then, there was also the trip to Earth. Pegasus, Yorktown, Avenger, and Venator would be leaving tomorrow. Captains K`Temoc, Greenwood, and Andrews were ready to go.
This would mean nearly the entire Senior Staff of Starbase 400 would be away, but he had faith in Vice Admiral Stryfe and his Officers still aboard that everything would be fine.
Mike leaded back in his chair and looked over the rosters for each ship. He had to spread his Senior Staff and experienced personnel kind of thin;
Laffey: (Winter, K`Wor, Lee, Archer, Thorin)
Saratoga: (Pike, Sosuke (once they met with the Vanguard), Lennox, Ermey, Agtx)
Vanguard: (Weatherlight, Driggett, M`Kota, Mclintock)
Endeavor: (Coleman, Smith, Gilmore, T`Lana)
Pegasus: (Bremer, Harrison, Branson, t`khellian)
Yorktown: ( K`Temoc, Wright, Varn)
Avenger: (Greenwood, Gillo, Blackthorne)
Venator: (Andrews, Mark, Vortek)
He sent the crew assignments out, headed for Ops. Colonel Pike would need to depart the station in the next few hours to meet with the other ships assigned to the Talos operation. He wanted to talk to Lee before he left though, and sent word to have him come to Ops.
