Mission 75 - Time of Change
Location: Admiral Bremer's Office
Timeline: Current, Stardate 64929.4
ON:
It was turning out to be a good day. SB400 had just received a new CMO and now word had come that a new Chief Operations Officer was also aboard. Lieutenant Holly Gillo, a 35 year old Betazoid. Her experience spoke for itself, but according to her transfer orders she had taken several years 'off' and away from Starfleet. Mike scheduled a meeting with her for 1330 hours.
Bremer then left his office and returned to Ops to see if there had been any updates on the Endeavor or Saratoga's missions. As soon as he re-entered Ops, Commander Pike handed him a PADD. It was a brief report from the Saratoga saying they had started the deployment of the tachyon grid's sensor arrays, and had gained the attention of General Tozrak. The General had a reputation that preceded him, big ego but could usual back it up in a fight. However he wasn't one to blindly cross the Federation border. As long as Saratoga didn't drift across into Tholian space, Tozrak would just shadow them, trying to intimidate. That wouldn't work against Commander Winter and the Saratoga though.
Mike nodded to Pike and handed the PADD back, then walked over to Captain Andrews. He was monitoring the Endeavor's mission. Of course, with the ship cloaked and running silent, there was no way to get any updates from them, so Andrews was monitoring Romulan channels to see if any mention of an incursion into Romulan space. Captain Mark was also monitoring, and so far neither had heard anything. As a matter of fact, Bremer's ploy had worked and Admiral Tomalak had pulled additional ships toward the Romulan border closer to SB400, clearing some of the traffic out of the Endeavor's path. If the ship was still on schedule, she'd be entering the former Romulus system at anytime now.
Mike again nodded to the two Captains has he continued around Ops when the turbolift doors opened and Captain Weatherlight entered. He walked up to Mike and handed him a PADD.
"We're ready to decommission. The ship has been cleared of all personal belongings and storable goods, and all personnel have left the ship." James said in an almost somber tone.
Mike nodded, "Advise Captain Picard. We'll hold a formal ceremony tonight at 1900 hours, Senior Staff invited. Tomorrow morning at 0800 we'll decommission her."
"Understood. The Challenger will be here soon, and the Warrior is ready now. Anything you want done? James asked.
"Pull the Warrior in, make sure she is ready to depart with a full load out. Once the Challenger arrives, let's give her a full overhaul and load out too. After I meeting with our new Chief of Operations, I'll send her to you to help." Mike ordered.
James smiled, "Aye sir. With Smith on the Endeavor, I'll make sure she is up to speed on operations around here."
As Weatherlight left Ops, Mike continued his tour around Ops, checking in with his Officers.
Once he was sure everything was well in hand, he returned to his Office. He saw Lieutenant Gillo had acknowledged the meeting request. He also had a message from Captain Picard. He had acknowledged Weatherlight's message regarding the ceremony tonight and official decommissioning tomorrow morning.
Bremer sat back in his chair and looked over a report from Starfleet Command regarding fleet deployments. Mike was happy to see the USS Challenger and USS Warrior would be assigned to nearby sectors. Looking over the report, it was clear Starfleet was concerned over the Typhon Pact's recent actions, and devoting vast resources to strengthen their assets near the borders with the Romulans, Gorn, Tholians, and Breen. Starfleet had pulled part of the Second Fleet away from the Cardassian border and moved them toward the Breen border. Part of the Eighth Fleet had been pulled from exploration missions in the Delphi Ardu area to beef up defenses in the area of the Tzenkethi Coaliton. The First and Tenth Fleets were still deployed within the Federation borders, no changes there. The Ninth Fleet, which SB400 was a member, was spread across the Galaxy. Most ships and station where near Romulan space, like SB400, SB349 (SB Bravo), and Echelon Station. Then, there was the Fourth Fleet. They were in a state of flux. Some ships had transferred out and the group wasn't the same as it used to be. Echoing this, Starfleet had pulled many ships away from front line duty, and not brought in new Officers or ships to replace those that had been reassigned. Mike could only shake his head, even though he was sad to see his former command in such a rundown state.
Mike stood up and ordered another Raktijno from the replicator, then sat back down. He looked over Gillo's Starfleet Records again and waited for her to arrive.
