659 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Mission 82 - The Aggressor
Location: Brody's Quarters / Operations
Timeline: Following: "Heading Back to the Station"

---BRODY'S QUARTERS---

Ensign Brody was pacing in his quarters. He had completed a majority of his unpacking, but was begining to get restless. He aimlessly read a few PADDs and studied some starbase floorplans, but was itching to get to work. "Computer, time until next shift?"

"Your next scheduled shift begins in eighteen hours and thirty-one minutes."

That was far too long for Brody to remain stagnant. He figured it would be prudent to get a feel for the starbase and the systems for which he would be responsible. With Commander Lokran still on an away mission, he felt it wise to have everything in order upon his arrival. "Computer, please map a route that will take me from Operations to the Security Office to the munitions depot and back to my quarters."

The computer chiped as it processed his request. "Route mapped. Please follow the indicators once you have exited your quarters." Brody left his room and saw the directional lights on the nearest wall's console. He made his way to the nearest turbolift which would take him to the starbase's main operations center.

---OPERATIONS---

Brody stepped off the turbolift and entered the brain of Starbase 400. There were a number of Officers conducting a number of important tasks. A Lt. Commander approached Brody the second he set foot in Operations. "Excuse me, Ensign. Can I help you?"

"No, thank you, Commander. I'm David Brody, the new Assistant Chief of Security and Tactical. I've come to inspect my operation." Brody had never had any true authority and he was surprised by how good it felt to throw a little of it around.

The Lt. Commander gave Brody a brief glare before punching up some information on his PADD. He relaxed his stance a little and became a little more approachable. "My apologies, Ensign. Carry on."

Brody moved over to Tactical 1 where another Ensign was monitoring sensors. He had overheard the exchange between Brody and the Lt. Commander. "Hello Chief, we weren't expecting you for several more hours."

Brody waved his hand in dismissal. "Please. Brody is fine." He looked over the Tactical 1 console and observed the scans taking place. He ran a brief level four diagnostic and detected no variances. "Who calibrated this station?"

The Ensign was nervous but replied with confidence. "I did, sir. Is there a problem?"

Brody smiled. "What is your name, Ensign?"

The Ensign's nerves began to fray a little. "Ensign Robert Norris."

Brody patted the young Ensign Norris on he back. "Well, Bob, you've done an excellent job. I usually find variances on targeting scanners as if they were put there on purpose. Your station is immaculate." Norris relaxed, letting out a sigh and a smile. "However, no good deed goes unpunished," Brody said with a grin. "I'm making you my diagnostician. I want you to make a list of all stations capable of firing a phaser, launching a torpedo or scanning a target and present me with a maintenance schedule to configure them all to the specs of this work station." Brody handed a PADD to Norris. "I want to make sure Commander Lokran knows he left the base in more than capable hands. Clear?"

Norris was a young Officer likely only a year or two removed from the Academy. He appreciated the chance to demonstrate his abilities and accepted the assignment enthusiastically. "Aye, sir. I'll get right on it!"

Brody hopped on the console, excusing himself as he made moved around Norris. "Computer, transfer all incident reports and service call logs to my quarters. Extrapolate data per specifications in my database." The computer beeped as the task was completed.

He returned the console to Norris. "All your's, Ensign." Brody made his way back to the turbolift. He would continue his rounds, stopping in the Security Office, the munitions depot and the promenade before retiring to his quarters. He was already enjoying his time on the starbase and all of his new responsibilities.
