Mission:
Mission 82 - The Aggressor
Location: Starbase 400, Bremer's Office
Timeline: Following 'New Home'
ON:
Mike was in his office, it had been a while since his meeting with Monday, La Baron, and Kerr. Mike had sent a message to several of his Senior Staff, and Admiral Sevlek, to meet him to discuss the current situation with the Krazzle and C’hakilians conflict. While he waited for them to arrive, Mike read over a PADD.
An hour before, Mike had sent a message to both Fleet Admiral Neychev and Fleet Admiral Akaar, inquiring about Admiral Sevlek’s mission to Starbase 400 and his reluctance to share information regarding the war. Neychev wasn’t even aware that Sevlek was at Starbase 400, and Akaar hadn’t replied yet.
Mike leaned back in his chair. Something more was going on then he’d been told…and he didn’t like it. He sat the PADD to the side and waited for everyone else to arrive.
Sevlek had just finished a meeting with Zandusky and Andrenicus when the request for his presence in a meeting with Bremer was received. He looked to Andrenicus who was across the room looking over tactical readouts and said, "Colonel, you're with me." As he started on his way out of the office suite.
Andrenicus followed, "A meeting with the station's personnel?"
Sevlek nodded, "Among those topics will likely be a discussion about why Fleet Admiral Nechayev is unaware of my presence here with the Gladiator."
"So, Admiral Bremer contacted Starfleet Command. It was expected to happen wasn't it?" The question was rhetorical. They both knew it would eventually happen.
"Indeed. He sent the message approximately a hour ago. He no doubt has it with him." Sevlek paused as they entered the turbolift and ordered it to their destination, "The inevitable confrontation will no doubt allow me the opportunity to assess how well the deaths of his children are affecting him."
"Is it wise to test someone in such a way after that kind of loss?" Andrenicus wasn't an overly emotional man, but he'd suffered his share of loss.
The Vulcan raised his brow as they left the turbolift, "Prudent would be a better description."
Andrenicus nodded as they reached the office of Admiral Bremer, David reached out and tapped the chime, waiting just a few seconds before they were granted entrance.
Sevlek walked in as Andrenicus motioned for him to do so. In the time since they served together, Andrenicus gave most people the impression he was actually the Vulcan's bodyguard, rather than his advisor. Sevlek looked at Mike as he nodded, "Admiral Bremer.”
Mike respectfully stood as Andrenicus and Sevlek entered the room. “Please, have a seat.” He motioned to the group of chairs in front of his desk.
Mike had figured Sevlek would be the first to arrive, typical Vulcan. “Everyone else should be here shortly.”
K’Temoc was the next to arrive. He still had a slight limp, but was walking without a cane finally. He didn’t even bother tapping the door chime, he walked right on in. He saw Admiral Sevlek and Colonel Andrenicus already sitting. K’Temoc nodded to them both, then flashed at smirk to his brother.
“How are you feeling?” Mike asked.
“Better, I’ll be back to full duty tomorrow.” K’Temoc replied as he slowly took a seat.
Lee rang the door chime.
"Enter." Mike replied to the chime.
He then entered Admiral Bremer's office and nodded to everyone who was already there and took a seat next to Captain K'Temoc.
Deela followed in right after Pike. She quickly scanned the room, noting who was there, before taking a seat. She sat down in the seat closest to her.
Mike nodded to everyone that came in. He wanted to keep the meeting cordial, even though he knew it might not end that way.
Andy Arrived to the meeting, he had worked with Sevlek and knew that him being here was an excuse to test his CO, as he entered he saluted the three admirals and then took his seat
Mike stood up, "Thank you all for coming." He looked around at everyone, "I called this meeting for Admiral Sevlek could update us on events happening along the Krazzle / C'Hik border."
He paused a moment before adding, "I also wanted to make everyone aware of events happening, "I've also received an update from Starbase 349. Riskin has managed to forge a new Raeyan Alliance, comprised of Starbase 349, The Five (Raeya, Xeltic, Poogrim, Fenralmi, and the Sithakir), and the Romulan refugees in the Raeyan Sector called Mandukar. The Raeyan Alliance is more a loose confederation than a central government. They are combining their forces into a common defense force. At last report, his flagship, the Sovererign-Class USS Fearless, was headed into Romulan territory to form a trade alliance with the Free Rihannsu, the small splinter government that broke away from the Star Empire after the Hobus event. Starfleet wants us to keep our distance, but with a new Federation President, I'm hopeful to a peaceful resolution."
Mike waited a moment before looking over to Sevlek, "Now, if Admiral Sevlek would be so kind of provide us his update."
Sevlek nodded as he looked to Andrenicus, who in turn handed him a PADD, he activated it and then began. "The Krazzle military has successfully assaulted 12 C'hakilian star systems and is currently involved in military actions in 6 others." He paused as he activated the next data sheets, "I have dispatched 16 Federation Starships to patrol the border, to ensure the Krazzle Military we will not tolerate their brazen crossings into Federation Space. The C'hakilian government has also petitioned for Federation military and diplomatic assistance to help end the conflict."
Sevlek paused as Andrenicus nodded. They'd discussed this earlier and were just waiting for a response from the President and Council. "Military assistance has been declined. We will not assist in a conflict between two foreign powers on that level. However, I have been authorized to select personnel for a diplomatic mission and that decision is currently still being deliberated."
Lee looked over towards Admiral Sevlek:"So you're saying that you are wanting to recruit some people from Star Base 400 for a diplomatic mission."
"That is a possibility." Sevlek responded.
"Well Sir If you want a diplomatic mission, then I'm your man I'll bring up my ship to see if we can get to the end of it", Answered Andy.
Mike leaned back, watching Sevlek, waiting on his response to General Jones's offer...but something was eating at him. He paused a moment, then added, "Admiral, you mentioned the Federation wouldn't be proving any military assistance, and I agree with that. You also mentioned you have sixteen Federation ships patrolling the border, stopping anymore Krazzle incursions. However, you failed to mention that the C'hakilian fleet has been allowed safe haven into Federation space, on at least two occasions."
It was something Vice Admiral Rasken had witnessed personally before heading into Romulan space, and advised Mike of when he updated him on the situation aboard Starbase 349 and the Raeyan System. With Sevlek failing to mention it, Mike now knew for sure that he was being kept out of the loop on things...and he wasn't happy about that.
Sevlek nodded, "Indeed, they have." He paused as he looked around the room and before anyone could question further added, "However, the information surrounding those specific situations is limited access and authorization." He looked directly at Mike, "Including you." This was sure to make an assessment easier. The truth was there, authorization for Bremer to know the specifics of those two encounters hadn't been given by the Council. Truth be told, Sevlek was probably one of the few flag officers who knew the entire situation.
Mike leaned back in his chair for a moment and smirked before standing up, and firmly placed his hands on his desk as he leaned forward, “I have Alpha-One and Priority clearance. I also have full operational command over the entire Raeyan Expansion Region, which includes the warzone. Furthermore,” He handed Sevlek a PADD, “here is a direct order from Fleet Admirals Neychev and Akaar, directing you to share any and all intel you receive with me.”
The ball was back in Sevlek’s court…Mike was going to see just how far he was going to be pushed.
Sevlek raised his brow, "My orders supersede Fleet Admiral Nechayev's authority as a condition of my detached duty assignment to the President and Federation Council." He leaned back in his chair, "I am not obligated to accept or follow the orders contained within that PADD. Furthermore, one would have thought that you were capable of inferring that information based solely on the fact that some of the other senior members of Starfleet Command were aware of neither my or the Gladiator's deployment to this area."
Mike smirked, "If the CnC of Starfleet and the Starfleet Liaison to the Office of the President were unaware of your real intent here, then perhaps we have a bigger problem." Mike thought about reaching out and smacking the eyebrow off Sevlek's face, however he did provide Mike with a little information he needed. He was working directly for the new Federation President, Slade Matthews. Why the President wanted him kept in the dark on certain things happening in his operational area was the question he needed an answer to. Clearly, Sevlek wasn't going to provide that answer, so Mike took a deep breath. Not only was he annoyed that Sevlek could just sit there, Vulcan or not, and perilously keep information from him, but it was the newly elected President that was seemingly pulling Sevlek's strings.
Deela sat and listened to the banter between Sevlek and Bremer. She could see what he was trying to accomplish but she knew that he wasn't going to get anything out of him. Dealing with him was like dealing with her father. She sat back into her chair, folding her arms as she watched on.
Andrenicus looked at Sevlek, who nodded, "General Jones, your name was supplied to my personnel as a possibility for a trip to the Krazzle homeworld to begin the process of resolving the conflict. If you wouldn't mind submitting a brief of how you would approach the situation to my office, we'll be able to move forward with the selection of our envoy."
Mike looked at Jones who nodded to Sevlek. Everyone else was still looking at Mike, waiting for his real reaction to Sevlek. Mike did feel that this pompous and arrogant Vulcan was waltzing into his pond and trying to take over, keeping information from him in his own operational area, and then evoking his detached duty. Was the new Federation President behind it? If so, why? Mike realized how Vice Admiral Raskin must of felt before Starbase 349 seceded.
Mike then took a deep breath, looked around the room, then added. "I know the Kearsage is in route to the Gorn border, but I haven't received an update from Avenger yet. I expect to hear from them soon. Dismissed."
He watched as everyone left his Office. He thought about trying to meet with the new President while on Earth. He'd be leaving tomorrow, so he had time to thing about it more before making a decision.
