Mission 80 - Outpost
Location: Outpost
Timeline: Current
ON:
Andy was still on the outpost looking for whatever was needed, now that the combined forces had already subdued the Jem'adar's on the ground and the ones on the ships surrounding the same one had been either surrendered or destroyed he gave a thought to the next step of the mission, he didn't knew what Sisko had in mind to do with the battlefield now that it was under Federation's control he touched his combadge and said
=^= Jones to Bremer =^=
Mike was on the Bridge of the Pegasus, shifting in his chair, sore. “Bremer here.”
=^= Sir the Outpost has been cleared for you =^=
“Good work General. Admiral Sisko and I will beam down shortly.” Mike slowly stood up and started to make his way to Transporter Room Three. He could feel the eyes of his Bridge Crew watching him.
"Understood", Then he turned to the high ranking Officer and said "Captain, all the work here has been done I'll return to the Sutherland now I'll Leave you in command here untill the admiral arrives"
=^= Jones to Sutherland =^=
=^= Go ahead Captain we hear you. =^=
=^= Please bean me up directly to the bridge =^=
=^= Yes, sir we await your signal to beam you up.=^=
=^= ENERGIZE! =^=
It was then that Holly nodded at the officer at operations to begin to beam up the Captain from the base. Things must have quieted down on the starbase for him to come back. Her only thoughts were that he was coming back unharmed and that the first officer wouldn't be far behind him in beaming up. As much as she could command a starship it never set well with her because she had to shut off so much of herself just to keep things together.
Waking up aboard the Sutherland, Major Hurd immediately started screaming, ''MY MEN, DEAR GOD MY MEN!'' His pain, and the pain at the loss of his men in combat were almost unbearable.
The duty nurse ran to his side and Tressa followed her. They administered a light sedative to the anguished Major. Their first charge was to care for the living, so the women stayed by his side as he grieved for the dead.
Outpost
It had taken Mike a little longer than normal to get to the transporter and beam back down to the Outpost. Sisko, Kira, and Bashir were there waiting for him along with Marine Captain Lennox and Gunnery Sergeant Ermey.
“You really need to be in bed.” Bashir said as Bremer appeared.
Mike cut his eyes at the Doctor, then let out a breath. “I needed to see this through.”
“We’ve already redeployed sentry satellites in orbit as well as sent up a small listening post down here. Once we clear the area, we’ll active the sensor and tachyon nets.” Kira explained.
“We’ve also swept the Outpost again sir, it is clear.” Captain Lennox added.
“Once we leave orbit, we’ll Escort Odo’s ship to the Wormhole. Once they are though the Vanguard, Venator, Ark Royal, Laffey, Kearsarge, and Durga will return to Starbase 400.” Sisko said, “But, I’m not expecting any trouble.
Mike smirked, “Not with Odo over there. I’m sure the Constable has things well in hand.”
“The Medical Ship Mercy arrived in orbit about ten minutes ago, the most severely wounded at being transferred to her now and taken back to Starbase 400.” Bashir said.
“A Lieutenant Commander Roebuck aboard the USS Cutlass was asking for you.” Kira added.
“Roebuck?” Mike asked aloud as he thought for a moment, “I’ll hail him as soon as I return to the Pegasus.
“As long as you do it from your bed.” Julian added with a smile.
Mike nodded, “You might be right.” Bremer stepped forward and shook Bashir’s hand. Then Kira gave him a gentle hug.
“We’ll contact you once we arrive as DS9.” Ben said with a smile, “Give Janice and the kids our best.” Bremer and Sisko shook hands. “I will, tell Kasidy and Rebecca Jae we said hello and we’ll plan to see them soon.”
Ben smiled again, then tapped his comm-badge. “Sisko to Defiant, three to beam up.” A moment later, the trio from Deep Space Nine shimmered away.
Mike looked over at the Marines, “Captain, have you men return to the Saratoga. It’s time to go home.”
“Aye-aye sir.” Lennox replied as he and Ermey walked off.
Mike then tapped his own comm-badge, “Bremer to Pegasus, one to beam up.”
USS Sutherland
After Major Hurd had calmed down, which took a bit, he looked at the nurse attending him, and said, ''Patch me through to Admiral Bremer'' The nurse open the channel, and the Major waited for the Admiral to respond
Mike had just returned to the Pegasus and he was making his way, slowly, to the Bridge, he tapped his comm-badge, “Bremer here.”
Clearing his voice a little, Major Hurd said, '' Sir, how did my men preform? The second question he asked pained him a great deal on the inside, but he had to know. '' How many men did I loose, sir?
“The Marines did well, damn well Major.” Mike paused a moment, he knew the Major was worried about his men, “Total, there was seventy-nine killed and wounding, counting yourself and I. Of those, thirty-two Marines were killed, another twenty-one wounded.”
Pausing for a moment to digest what the Admiral had said, Major Hurd felt another cry of distress well up inside of him, be he stifled it. '' Well, Admiral,'' Major Hurd said, ''That's what Marines have done for hundreds of years, We fight and we die, and to be honest sir, if you were able to ask any of the men who died if they were to do anything different , i believe the answer would be no, because each one of them died doing what they loved, and died for the Federation. And in our culture, that is the highest achievement we can ask, to be given the chance to serve...."
Mike understood what Hurd was saying. "They died in glorious battle, nothing is more honorable." It was almost a cliché thing to say, but it was the truth.
''Sir,'' Major Hurd said, If i may ask two things.'' ''First, How are you feeling?'' ''And the second, I would like to deliver my report in person.''
Mike smirked, "I've been better. And yes, after you rest." 'After we both get some rest' he thought. "That's an order Major." Mike smiled as he closed the comm, even though he knew over the comm Hurd couldn't see the smile.
Saratoga, Bridge
Saith looked at Captain Pike. "Our report is off to Admiral Bremer, and Captain Lennox and the Marines have returned Captain. Looks like we are ready to go, when the rest of the fleet is."
Lee nodded:"Good work Ensign. Let me know when the fleet is ready to go I'll be in my quarters. You have the bridge Ensign."
"Aye, aye Captain."
Lee rose from the command chair and headed for the turbo lift.
Saith waited until the turbo lift doors closed to rise and move to the center chair. She felt a little bit of a thrill sitting in the center seat that she could not deny. "Helm, as soon as we receive word from the Pegasus, move out." She settled into the chair as the helm officers acknowledged the order.
Lee finally made it to his quarters, he then sealed his door and went and laid down on the bed in his uniform and fell asleep after a couple minutes.
Essex, Bridge
VAdm. T'Lar sat in her chair with a PADD in hand. She was looking the ship report over while killing time. There were injured patients still being transported to the medical ship.
She stood up from her chair, "As soon as the Mercy is finished transporting the wounded off the ship, prepare to leave. Also, inform the Pegasus that we are ready to depart when they are."
Her crewman nodded, "Yes ma'am."
"I'll be in my Ready room...waiting." The door closed behind her.
R'nard and his team, their mission done, beamed back to the ship. He instructed the team to go for debriefing, then he headed for the ready room to report. He chimed the door.
"Enter." She looked towards the door to see who it was.
The door swished open, and R'nard entered. "Rreporting on our mission, Ma'am." he said. "It was a success. We rrecovered the Iconian devices and they are at the cargo bay. We had only one casualty which was beamed up to sickbay. There was nothing at the mopup later.
"One casualty." Deela cursed under her breathe, "Damn." Although she hated losing anyone, she was relieved that she would only have to notify one family this time. From what she heard, she didn't envy Major Hurd. "I'm glad you made it back, unscathed. You did well.'
Deela stood up and accompanied him to the door, "Go get some rest. You can turn in your report later."
Pegasus, Bridge
Mike had made it back to the Bridge, even though he was in a lot of pain. However, he wanted to be on the Bridge while the Task Force departed Iconia and the Neutral Zone.
The Fleet was already divided into two groups. The Defiant, Vanguard, Venator, Ark Royal, Laffey, Kearsarge, and Durga were surrounding the Dominion Battleship. While the Pegasus, Essex, Avenger, Sutherland, Saratoga, Cutlass, and Mercy formed the other group.
As the ships all turned away from Iconia, four Romulan Warbirds decloaked suddenly and without warning. Three D’deridex and one Valdore type. Bremer stood up quickly, “Yellow alert, but keep the weapons offline.”
“They really think four Warbirds is much of a threat to a fleet this size?” Archer asked.
“There’s probably a few others surrounding us, cloaked. Besides, several of our ships are still damaged and the Dominion Battleship has no weapons.” Bremer replied.
“The lead ship is hailing us.” K’Temoc reported from the XO’s seat.
“On screen.” Mike replied.
A moment later, the face of Romulan Admiral Tomalok appeared on the screen, “Admiral Bremer…it’s so nice to see you again.”
“Admiral Tomalok, what can we do for you?” Mike replied.
“We were about to ask you the same thing. You’re pretty far from Federation space, deep inside the Neutral Zone, and orbiting a planet both of our Governments have declared off-limits.” Tomalok smugly replied. “And, with a Dominion warship no less.”
“Tomalok, We’ve already gathered some information to send to the Romulan Government regarding our presence here. However since you’re here now, I’m sure you’ve been lurking for a while and watched everything play out.” Mike added, coldly.
“Admiral, we’re not here to accuse, we’re here to assist our Federation neighbors in securing the Neutral Zone.” Tomalok replied with a smile.
Mike then flashed a fake smile of his own, “In that case, thank you, however we have everything well in hand and we’re about to return to Federation space. We’ll transmit our data to you once we return to Starbase 400. Bremer out.”
Mike closed the comm as he glanced at K'Temoc. "Have all ships depart at one." Then looked over at Branson. “Chief, set course for Starbase 400, warp eight.”
“Aye sir.” Branson replied.
Mike started to sit down again, but felt something warm on his side close to his knife wound. He realized it was blood, the micro-sutures apparently ruptured when he jumped to his feet when the Romulans appeared. “K’Temoc, you have the Bridge…I’ll be in Sick Bay.”
Mike applied some pressure to the wound as he stepped inside the turbolift and headed back to Sick Bay. Maybe Doctors Brislan, Mclintock, and Bashir were right, maybe he did need to rest after all....
