Continued Interludes

358 words; about a 2 minute read

Mission: Mission 79 - Triangle
Location: Starbase Brig

As the team entered the Brig and secured the prisoners, Saith took a good long look at them. She found them interesting.

Lt. Cmdr. Lokran said, “make sure that none comes in, and I mean nobody without my authorization. I will be in my quarters for a few minutes. Call me if you need me." He then left.

Not only did the Security Team remain as bidden, two of the officers kept their undivided attention on the prisoners. Saith moved to the computer terminal and used her code to lock the doors. It would keep wanderers out, but not any brass.

She sat at the terminal and swung the chair back and forth, watching the men in their cells. ‘Looks are so deceiving,’ she thought as she waited for Lt. Cmdr. Lokran to return. ‘The men in the cells did not look dangerous, but of course they were,’ she mused in her mind.

Her mind wandered to Lt. Cmdr. Lokran. She had never seen one of his kind before and did not know anything him, other than what she had seen in his file. She would have to take a look more closely at his people so she had a better idea what she was dealing with. “as if it matters,” she snorted. She briefly thought about her newly acquired pessimism, well, not entirely new, but not what she had grown up with.

One of the security team glanced her way, but at her glare he quickly returned his attention to the cell he was watching. What did she care what he thought anyway. She sat and swiveled, thinking about things, her parents ‘my real parents’ she corrected mentally, her people, the succession of a Starbase from Starfleet; ‘would they really allow that?’ she wondered, ‘maybe I could go there. . .’

The sound of the door chime made her sit up. One of the other officers looked up as well. They glanced at each other and Saith rose with her hand on her phaser. It wasn’t Lokran that was for sure, he could get in without knocking. Saith toggled the computer and took a look into the hallway . . .
