756 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Mission 79 - Triangle
Location: Admiral Bremer's Office
Timeline: Following 'Time to Wait'

ON:

Mike was in his Office waiting on Captain Hammond to arrive. He’d ordered another raktijno from the replicator and was already half way finished with it when a beep alerted him that the Captain Harrison aboard the Steadfast had received his message.

Mike let a smile cross his lips, then tapped his comm-badge, “Admiral T’Lar please come to my office.”

"On my way." T'Lar left her office for Bremer's.

A few moments later, Vice Admiral T’Lar had arrived and Admiral Bremer pulled out a chair for her, “Care for something to drink?”

"No thank you. I'm good." She sat down and crossed her leg over the other one.

“I’m sure you’ve seen the reports on our new guest in the brig. I apologize for not making you aware of Captain K’Temoc’s little ruse, but the Essex just arrived back and I knew you had reports of your own to write, not to mention taking care of wounded and getting repairs started.” Mike said as he sat down.

"Understandable. The most important thing is that your plan worked. I just wish that I could be there when they find Clark." Her tone grew harsh, "I'd like to take him out and beat the..." She could feel the rage inside her welling up, a feeling she despised. As she closed her eyes, she leaned back in her chair, then exhaled. "I'm sure they'll get what's coming to them."

“I’m sure.” Mike flashed a smile, then added. “We’ve been dealing with Clark off and on since I took over Starbase 400. He’s a tactically sound commander and his people well trained, many former Starfleet including himself. However…I still feel he’s getting aid from somewhere.”

Deela nodded, "I agree."

Mike leaned back in his chair and straightened his uniform. “How are the repairs to the Essex coming?”

"Slowly. There's some hull damage. It looks like most of the damage is concentrated in the vicinity of decks 11 and 12 including the main deflector dish as well as the long range sensors." Deela frowned slightly, "It'll be at least a couple of weeks before she can get back in action."

Instead of waiting or relying on others, Deela really wanted to be out there, finding Major Hurd herself as she felt responsible for him.

Mike tried to smile, he knew how Deela must feel right now with the Essex under repair. Anytime the Pegasus was damaged and unable to go he always felt a little helpless.

“I’ll have the yard put a second repair team on her, we’ll get the Essex up and running again soon.” Mike paused as he picked up a PADD.

Deela nodded, "Good idea. Thank you."

“Also, we have a new Chief Counselor coming aboard,” Mike glanced at the PADD, “Lieutenant Commander Karyn Dallas, R.N. She’s on special assignment and I’m sure she’ll want to interview the both of us as well as the rest of the Senior Staff and others.”

Mike wasn’t a fan of Counselors or other types of Psychiatrist, but he knew some of his crew may need someone new to talk to. Starbase 400 had gone a long time without a Chief Counselor. Sure, there were other Medical Officers, Psychiatrists, and Counselors aboard but someone new and with Dallas’s experience could be very helpful. After all, the crew was dealing with a lot right now, Clark and his group, some of them their former crewmembers, it was a lot…and Mike wanted his crew to be mentally sharp.

Deela wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. She was a Counselor herself for six years and had found it difficult for her to be the patient. She also had been through a lot in the last three years so she wasn't crazy about being psycho-analyzed.

But this wasn't about her, it was about the SB400 crew. She couldn't help but worry about those who were out there looking for Hurd and Clark, "I'm sure that the crew will benefit greatly from her help."

"Agreed." Mike replied as he stood. "I know you have business to attend to." Mike flashed a smile.

Deela stood up, "Yes, I do. Thank you for the update." As Deela walked towards the door, it opened with the familiar swoosh sound. Before she stepped out, she turned slightly to Bremer, "If you hear anything from the Avenger, let me know." Stepping out, the door shut behind her.
