Mission:
Mission 79 - Triangle
Location: USS Avenger, Briefing Room
Timeline: Current
ON:
K'Wor had followed Captain Greenwood and Commander Coleman to the Briefing Room. He was eager to see exactly with their new orders were. He knew it had something to do with Marine Major Hurd being held captive by Pirates that had damaged the USS Essex and forced the ship to return to Starbase 400, but the details were with the Captain.
He took a seat to the Captain's left and waited for the rest of the Senior Staff to arrive.
Commander Coleman walked in and sat to the right of Captain Greenwood, where the Executive Officer usually sat. He gave a curt nod to Ensign Bremer, for who was sitting right across from him. Coleman wasn't sure how the mission to find Major Hurd would turn out, but he knew that the pirates were vicious, so it would be a hard mission to complete in many respects.
K'Wor nodded back to the Commander, "Sir."
Coleman waited for the rest of the senior staff to walk in, so that the mission briefing could begin and they could get to finding Hurd as soon as possible.
Once her replacement at Ops was there she was off to the briefing. She knew it had to be bad if all the senior staff were getting together on this one. It didn't take her long to get to the briefing room and she took up a seat at the table and waited to see what this was all about keeping her mind's eye open to pick up on anything anyone might be dropping for hints.
Ryan looked around the room at his senior staff.
"Thank you all for coming. I am going to keep this brief. We have received communication from Admiral T'Lar that Major Hurd has been captured by Pirates and that the USS Essex is unable to pursue. This behavior seems to be escalating from the Pirates we used to know. We will arrive in 3 hours at the last know coordinates. From there we will trace down any Pirate activity that could lead us to the Major's location. Since the Pirates are more aggressive we are going to run at red alert once we reach the coordinates. Ensign K'Wor, prepare a rescue team to extract the Major once we find his location. I will be leading the team."
"Understood sir." K'Wor was a little revealed to hear Captain Greenwood would be leading the team, an infiltration and extraction away mission was something he hadn't been a member of before, much less lead. He realized he had a LOT to learn still about being a Security Officer, much less a Chief of Security. "I'll have a plan on your desk before we arrive."
Ryan was surprised there was not an objection to him leading the mission.
"Lieutenant Gillo, prepare damage control teams. I am sure it will not be a warm welcome when we take the Major back."
Even though she wasn't thrilled with the prospect of the Captain going off ship during this operation she could tell just by how quickly he spoke that there was no changing his mind so she just nodded to acknowledge that she understood the order.
Ryan looked about the room.
"Is there any questions?"
This was when Holly spoke up, "I have one. Wouldn't it make more sense for you Captain to remain on the ship to insure that once the Major was extracted he was able to be shipped safely to friendly territory?"
There was the objection, even though it may not have been direct.
"Under normal circumstances Lieutenant that would be the case. Even Starfleet Protocol is against it. Due to the high profile nature of this mission, I will be leading the team to rescue the Major."
K’Wor leaned back in his chair, he knew one of the reasons the Captain was leading the Away Mission was because of his lack of training…and that was why he didn’t speak up sooner. He also knew Commander Coleman was an experienced Bridge officer, had a command of his own at SB400, the Endeavour, However, maybe he should of spoke up before…
“Captain,” he paused a moment to get his words right, “Sir I know one of the reasons you’re going on this Away Mission is because of me, I haven’t lead a rescue mission before.” He looked over at Gillo for a moment, then back to Greenwood. “I’m fully aware that Starfleet protocols are for the Commanding Officer to remain aboard the ship, and it’s the Chief of Security’s job to object, However Mr. Coleman has command experience and will be on the Bridge while we’re away. I will personally guarantee the Captain’s safety on the Away Mission.”
K’Wor let out a breath, then looked back at Gillo, then Coleman, and finally the Captain.
Commander Coleman let everything in and let everyone voice their opinion and objections before he spoke up. He took a breathe and looked at Captain Greenwood before saying, "Captain Greenwood, I will object to your going on this mission, since you are the commanding officer. While I understand the high priority nature of the mission, I still object, sir. I can go in your place and make sure everything goes as planned."
As he finished, Coleman let out a breathe and looked over at the Captain to see what he would say.
It seemed that Ryan was outnumbered. However he had a mission to complete at any cost.
"I understand all of your objections and they are noted."
Ryan looked at Ensign K'Wor.
"Ensign K'Wor, I dont doubt that you will ensure my safety. That is why I am bringing you with me."
He then turned to the Commander.
"Commander, you are capable of commanding a starship. I am trusting you with Her."
Ryan looked around the room.
"My decision stands. Dismissed."
K'Wor stood from his chair and started to leave the room.
As everyone got up to leave Ryan had one more piece of business.
"Ensign K'Wor, can remain a moment?"
The young man stopped, waited for Coleman and Graham to pass, then walked back toward the conference table, concern shown on his face, "Yes sir?"
