Mission:
Mission 79 - Triangle
Location: SB400 and USS Steadfast
Timeline: Following K'Temoc's last post
Captain Alexandra Harrison walked onto the Diligent Class bridge. She took a deep breath as she looked around. Everyone was already there except for Pike who should be right behind her.
"Captain on the bridge."
Alex nodded to her crew as she sat down in her seat. She ran her hands along the rims of the chair. She stood back up and walked over to her helmsman, "As soon as Captain Pike arrives, we'll shove off."
"Aye Captain."
She walked around the bridge and mingled a bit in order to get to know them better. She was a little nervous. Not because she was finally commanding her own ship but because of the mission itself. Clark in her book was dangerous. He didn't care what he did as long as he could protect his followers and get what he wanted.
Lee stepped onto the bridge followed by the big Klingon Sgt. Maal. Lee and Alex where both still a little miffed about a couple officers accusing them of being traitors but Lee knew he could trust Sgt. Maal with his life.
"Captain Pike and Sgt. Maal reporting for duty ma'am."
"Very good." She addressed Pike, "Captain Pike, my ready room, ten minutes." Alex laughed to herself. She had always wanted to say that. She went to the Ready Room to check it out while she waited for him.
Lee nodded:"Yes ma'am"
"While she inspected the room, she started to think about the mission at hand and the contents of the PADD that Bremer handed her. She was relieved to know that it was all smoke and mirrors and that things were still good with K'Temoc and Bremer.
Alex didn't know if it would work but she had no say in the matter. They knew that there was still someone working with Clark on SB400 and hopefully, they'd be able to flush him or her out of hiding.
Lee pushed the enter button for the ready room door and waiting.
"Enter."
Lee stepped into the ready room and stood in front of her desk.:"You wanted to see me ma'am."
"Have a seat." She waited for him to sit, "I'm going to keep this short and sweet. I've checked this room myself so it's safe to talk. I've wiped the PADD clean and discarded it so that no one can know what was on it. I'm a little worried about this plan that K'Temoc and Bremer have concocted. I'd like you to be the one to beam K'Temoc up that is if the plan haven't changed. I think the less people that know, the better." She paused, keeping protocol, "Dismissed. I wouldn't want our crew to get the wrong impression now."
Nodding, Lee turn and walked out like the true military man he was.
Alex was now back on the bridge and back in her chair. She looked around at her crew and then at the view screen. She addressed her helmsman, "Prepare to leave Starbase 400."
~Starbase 400, outside K’Temoc’s Quarters~
K’Temoc approached his quarters with his escort close by. He ate another piece of the sushi he’d ordered just before his little fight with the Klingon. He figured a public show of anger and insubordination, enough to get locked away in his quarters would not only get noticed by whomever was providing info to Clark, but to also provide a reason why he wouldn’t be seen for a few days. Sadly, he didn’t anticipate his Security escort to ask questions about Clark so...openly.
He fully expected the Ensign to want to confiscate his sidearm, it was standard procedure. Once inside, he’d have to disable to young woman quickly, quietly, easily. He could tell she was at least part Vulcan or Romulan...he wasn’t totally sure, he hadn’t had a chance to read her Starfleet Record.
As the door opened to his quarters, K’Temoc took a step away, “Ladies first.” He flashed his boyish smile.
After the Captain's comments regarding Clark, or rather NOT regarding Clark, Saith became a little wary, her hand straying near her weapon. Clearly there was more here beneath the surface. She looked at K'Temoc's smile and almost laughed.
"Oh, no thank you, I am sorry Captain," she replied as respectfully as she could under the circumstances. She smiled back at him, "Prisoners first. I was ordered to escort you to your confinement not to a social engagement. It is my first day on base, not my first day at the academy." She placed her hand lightly on the butt of her phaser.
~Meanwhile, on the Steadfast bridge~
Alex was getting antsy. She was trying to buy K'Temoc some time to get to his quarters so that he and he alone would be beamed up to the Steadfast. She hoped that things were going well but she knew that most plans always have some kind of a kink in them.
Everyone on the ship kept looking to Alex for further orders. Her helmsman inquired, "Captain?" She needed to keep the Steadfast in transporter range but she couldn't wait any longer. The agreed time was upon them, "Proceed. Release docking clamps. Set course for The Triangle. Let's go catch some pirates." The ship departed.
~Transporter Room~
Lee had made his way to the transporter room and was at the controls waiting for K'Temoc to appear in his quarters so he could be beamed up. Sgt. Maal was standing next to him.
~K’Temoc’s Quarters on SB400~
As K’Temoc entered his quarters, he quickly stepped off to the right, setting down the container that had held his lunch on the table. He noticed the Ensign’s eyes look over to the small bag sitting on his bed. “I’m sorry the room is a mess.”
As the door shut, he paused a moment, then added, “I’m also sorry for this!” K’Temoc quickly spun around, hitting the young Ensign in the face with the palm of his hand. He wasn’t trying to hurt her, just knock her out. As she stumbled into the wall, K’Temoc picked up his bag and put the strap over his left shoulder, across his chest. He then pulled out a commbadge hidden in the side pouch and tapped it twice, a signal to the Steadfast to beam him over.
However as he slid the badge back into the pouch, he was greeted with the business end of the Ensign’s phaser. K”Temoc quickly grabbed the woman’s arm to force the phaser away. As they struggled, he felt the tingle of a transporter beam grabbing him…and the Ensign.
Saith hit the wall but didn’t go down. She came back ready to fight and lunged towards Captain K’Temoc. She attempted to tap her Comm badge but, K'Temoc came back at her at the same time catching her arm. She felt the familiar tingle of a transporter beam.
~USS Steadfast, Transporter Room~
Lee spotted K'Temoc enter his quarters and pushed the controls to beam him up to the Steadfast. Just then the blue beam brought Captain K'Temoc along with a Romulan in a Star Fleet uniform.:"Ummm......oooppps."
As they continued to struggle over the phaser, K’Temoc realized they were now aboard the Steadfast. He released his hold on the weapon and the woman’s arm and took a step back. “At ease Ensign.” Sergeant Maal quickly stepped up on the transporter pad and disarmed the Security Officer.
'At ease, my ass" she thought. As the big Klingon stepped back with her weapon, she stopped and began assessing her situation. It was bad. ‘Captain K’Temoc must be the link to the pirates!’ she thought. ‘Clark was well connected indeed. The Admiral’s own brother, a traitor.’ She considered taking on the big Klingon but was clearly outnumbered even if she might be able to take Sgt. Maal.
Once the ship departed, Alex excused herself, leaving one of her crewmen in charge. She walked into her Ready Room and as soon as the door shut, she tapped her combadge, Captain Harrison to Captain Pike. Has our package arrived yet?"
Lee blew out a breath:"Yes the package has arrived but we have sort of a problem here in transporter room one."
"Oh no. Dang it! I knew it! I'm on my way." She was upset. As usual, something went wrong.
He shook his head:"Understood Captain." Lee tapped his badge.
Lee raised an eybrow:"Care to inform me what happened Captain?"
“Later” K’Temoc replied. He knew now would be as good a time as any to get some answers from his former escort, and with Lee present, it would be impossible for her to lie and get away with it.
“Ensign. I assume you know already, this is Captain Pike our Chief Intelligence Officer. He’s also a Betazoid.” K’Temoc paused as he stepped off the pad, and stood beside Pike. K’Temoc looked at the transport control console. From the readouts, he could tell the ship was departing the Starbase now.
He turned back to face the woman. “You asked me about Clark in the corridor on the way to my quarters. What do you know about him?” K’Temoc’s tone was one of authority, and he awaited an answer.
She turned to look at Captain Pike, feeling nothing but anger and contempt. She laughed humorlessly at Captain K’Temoc’s question, “Clearly, I have been made the fool. Typical, you would betray your own, you're worse than a Reman. And you,” she looked at Captain Pike, “the transmission I intercepted must have been sent by you. You must have been thrilled I reported it to you. Did you devised this little scheme to get me out of the way? You might as well kill me, I will not cooperate with traitors and pirates.” She spat in K’Temoc’s general direction.
K’Temoc stood a little taller as his muscles flexed, he had to hold back his anger and not snap the Romulan’s neck right there. He took a deep breath, then spoke again.
“Ensign…do not, spit at me again.” He paused again before continuing, “I assure you, we’re not traitors, we’re on assignment per the Admiral. If you do not believe me, you can ask Captain Harrison when she arrives.” Nothing K’Temoc had said or would say here mattered, the Ensign wasn’t going anywhere.
“You mentioned you knew I was in Special Ops. You’re correct. I’m the CO of Starbase 400’s Special Operations Team. Captain Pike, Sergeant Maal, and Captain Harrison are all a part of that team. So is Commander Smith, you’ll meet him sometime too. We’re after Clark. We know he has someone aboard Starbase 400 has been providing him information. And right now, you’re asking all the wrong questions. So, again, what do you know about Clark?”
K’Temoc wasn’t going to take any chances, either she answered or she’d spend the entire mission in the Brig. Of course, if it turned out she was a spy she’d be in the Brig anyway. Still, it really made no sense for a Romulan to be hooked up with Clark’s little band. A spy for the Star Empire seemed more likely than a Pirate. He hoped it was all a misunderstanding, that she had asked the wrong question at the wrong time…
Alex arrived in the Transporter room. She was surprised to see who beamed up with K'Temoc. She wasn't sure exactly what happened but she could see that everyone was agitated.
"What the hell is going on? I can cut the tension in here with a knife. I suggest that we take this somewhere else." She started to head for the door but no one was moving. She turned around, and glared at them, "What are you waiting for? Come."
Even though they were the same rank, she was the CO of this ship and that gave her certain rights. She expected them to treat her so.
Lee nodded:"I think Captain Harrison is correct perhaps we should move this to somewhere else." Lee headed for the door."Sgt. Maal make sure the Ensign doesn't try anything funny."
