Avenger prepares to depart

Mission: Mission 79 - Triangle
Location: USS Avenger
Timeline: Following Bremer and K'Temoc's JP

ON:

Mike had received Ryan’s call hours before…had it really already been hours? Between the spot inspection of the Princeton and then reports from the Yorktown, time had been flying.

Mike tapped his comm-badge, “Bremer to Greenwood. I’ll meet you aboard the Avenger in thirty minutes. I apologize for the delay. Bremer out.”

Mike grabbed a PADD off his desk and headed for the Avenger.

The new Intrepid class ship nearly shinned though observation window looking out into Starbase 400’s docking bay. She’d already seen a little space time, but had to return for final fitting out and adjustments to her power distribution systems and bio-neural circuitry.

Sadly, while this work was being done, most of the ship’s Command Crew had been reassigned, leaving Captain Greenwood shorthanded.

As Mike boarded the ship, he took time to walk though the corridors…the ship even had that ‘new ship smell’ to her. Finally he stepped onto the Bridge. He saw a young Ensign look at him and snap to attention. As the young man opened his mouth Mike looked at him and shook his head, then mouthed ‘at ease’. Mike didn’t want the crew to stop their preparations, but also the whole ‘Admiral On Deck’ and ‘Admiral on the Bridge’ stuff had never really suited him.

Mike then turned to the Ensign, “Where is Captain Greenwood?”

The young man, feeling a little more at ease since the Admiral stopped him from calling the room to attention spoke up, sure of himself. “He’s in his Ready Room Admiral.”

Mike nodded, then walked across the Bridge to the Ready Room, tapping the chime on the door panel.

Ryan stopped reading over the ship reports long enough to answer.

"Come in."

The doors opened to reveal the Admiral. Ryan put the PADD down and stood at attention.

"Admiral. Please have a seat."

Mike flashed a smile, "At ease." He sat down in one of the two open chair in front of the Captain's desk.

"Any plans for the Avenger's first real trial run?" Mike asked.

"With the increased activity along the Triangle, a patrol along the boarder to help keep from thinning out our coverage would be a good test of the Avenger's sensor arrays. What were you thinking Admiral?"

Mike paused a moment, "Admiral T'Lar is already out there with the Essex. Now with the Yorktown damaged and heading home, the mission to the former Federation colonies within the Neutral Zone had to be put on hold. We know the colonists are arming themselves, and probably even receiving some of those arms from Pirates based within the Triangle."

Mike stood up and looked out the window for a moment before turning back to face Ryan, "Head to Boyden V, Nelvana III, and Zemor II. Stop any flow of weapons and supplies heading toward those planets from the Triangle...or Federations space. This will also keep you close enough in-case the Essex needs assistance, or vice versa."



"Take precaution, don't got in with weapons charged...this mess could really blow up and we could have another full fledged Maquis uprising again." Mike added. He knew Ryan wouldn't rush in with weapons firing, but still wanted to voice the warning.

"I know you're still short handed." He held up the PADD he'd brought with him. "Here's a list of Officers I'd suggest taking with you for this mission.

Mike tapped a button on the PADD to reveal the names...

Lieutenant Lily Barker – Conn
Lieutenant Holly Gillo – Ops
Commander Jonathan Coleman – Science/XO
Lieutenant J.G. Jackson Graham – Engineering
Acting Ensign K'Wor – Tactical/Security

...then handed it to Ryan.

Ryan reviewed the names. Most of the officers Ryan had seen in action, but some he was not so sure about. There was no reason to turn down any of the officers.

"Thank you Admiral. From the last report, the Avenger will be leaving space dock in 2 hours. I will gather these officers for a briefing."

The situation provided was going to be a tough one as Ryan's father was killed by Pirates. Ryan would have to keep his cool on this mission.
