Mission:
Episode 120 - Guardian at the Gate
Location: USS Essex, CO Ready Room
Ezekiel walked into the ready room after being summoned. He was still emotionally distraught even though he was trying to hold it in. "Colonel Ezekiel Bagwell reporting as ordered." He called out as he snapped to the position of attention. He wondered if his Saratoga could be salvaged and now she was uninhabitable. For the moment though he knew the Admiral had other concerns on her mind.
"At ease. Have a seat." She waited for him to sit down, "Sorry about the Saratoga. A soon as our business here is done, we'll have to tow the ship back to Starbase 400. I'm not ordering you to but you are welcome to serve on this ship until then."
"Where would you like to me serve, Admiral? Before Command track, I was a decent security officer and strategic operations officer. But I am open to anything. I think keeping me focused, will keep me from thinking of the Saratoga." Ezekiel quickly explained. He wanted to be distracted and he wanted to feel useful. Right now he felt lost and useless.
"Well, right now, I don't have a strategic operations officer, so you can take that position for right now." She was happy that he decided to stay, "To tell the truth, I was hoping that we would be back at Starbase 400 by now. I'm concerned that Admiral Bremer hasn't come back with the Perseus. They've been gone now for a while with no word."
"Well let's hope no word is a good thing." Ezekiel said trying to be upbeat but failing at it. He couldn't help it in some ways because he was still sad about the loss of his ship. But he also understood the gravity of their situation currently. "I'll start gathering Fleet deployments, and try to tell you what assets we have I need at least a minimum 30 minutes and of course the correct clearances aboard the Essex." Ezekiel suggested to her, partially to give her reassurance that he would start looking for the USS Perseus and then also see what kind of assets they had in the area. Even though it had been a couple years since he had been in strategic operations because his more previous assignment was special Operations. It was naturally coming back to him quickly.
"Sounds good. Welcome aboard the Essex." Deela smiled.
"Thank you Admiral, glad to be board." Ezekiel said with a big grin. He was happy to have a purpose. Especially since he was down about the loss of the Saratoga.
