Mission:
Episode 120 - Guardian at the Gate
Location: USS Essex - Bridge
Timeline: Current
ON...
After a good hour and half of going through the data on whatever that was that struck the Essex and the George Washington, Deezell was slowly putting together something she hoped could be useful, not just for another encounter with the same phenomenon, but future engagements with other equally destructive forces.
She got up from her seat at the bridge engineering station and walked over to T'Lar, sat in the big chair, looking apprehensive.
As she made her way over, her pregnancy heightened sense of smell was in full force. She could pick up various scents from around the bridge that she wouldn't have normally noticed. She was grateful that none were remotely unpleasant, for now at least. One smell was somewhat elusive. A burnt metallic like scent coming from the front of the bridge. The only possible source, that she could come up with, was it was something to do with the viewscreen assembly.
"Sorry to bother you, sir, but I have been doing a little bit of research since our encounter with that wave and I might have something we can use should we get another whack, hopefully not, and also for similar encounters going forward."
Deezell advised, standing to the left of the Admiral.
Deela was in her own little world for a moment, thinking about Starbase 400 and missing her daughter, Raivyn. She heard a voice and turned towards it. She didn't realize how deep in thought she was until Deezell spoke, "Sorry Lt. Vox, what were you saying? Something about the wave we encountered?"
" Yes Admiral. I think I have a way to protect us better from the phenomena we encountered and perhaps similar phenomena going forward. It will take a bit of work but I think it will protect us considerably better." Dee replied.
Deela nodded, "Very good. Glad to see someone getting things done." She was tired of just sitting around, waiting for the Perseus to get back, "What is your idea?"
"Well, I believe I can add some extra power to the shields through the warp drive's quantum flywheel and also adjust the shield matrix so that, instead of an overlapping effect, we can interlock the shield plates together giving them more strength." The simulation she had run suggested it was possible but whether it would actually work in practice was yet to be seen.
"In theory, it sounds plausible. If you need to, go ahead and continue running simulations. It's not like we have anything to do." Deela sighed, "I don't know about you, but I am ready to leave this place and get back to the base. We have no idea what is on the other side of that conduit or what the Perseus crew found there." She wasn't in a good place right now.
"I totally agree with you, Admiral. I will start working on the simulations and see where I get to. " Dee smiled. " I'm here if you need to talk about anything, Admiral. " She turned and headed back to her station.
Deela gave her a slight smile, "Thanks. Hopefully, the Perseus crew gets back soon. I'm going space crazy." She looked around when she realized she said it loudly. The bridge crew just smiled and went back to their work.
"I know exactly what you mean. I'm trying all I can to keep myself calm and not stressed, for obvious reasons." Dee replied, resting a hand on her flat belly.
"As soon as you figure things out, let me know so I know what we are doing in case we run into that problem again." Deela stood up, "I'll be in my Ready room if you need me." She stood up and walked towards her office.
"Yes Admiral, I'm on it." Dee replied.
