Mission:
Episode 120 - Guardian at the Gate
Location: USS Pegasus-C
Timeline: Current
ON:
Mike stood on the Bridge of the USS Pegasus-C in front of the view screen beside Flight Control. His eyes focused on the anomaly before him flanked by the large Borg ship referred to as the Singularity Vessel. Around the Pegasus stood the other ships in the task force, Essex, Lexington, Visionary, Repulse, Kearsarge, George Washington, Adventurer, Sutherland, Warspite, Conqueror, Percival, Vanguard, and Akagi.
"Sir, the Borg ship is still hailing." An Ensign spoke up from the Communications station.
Mike watched the Borg vessel for a few more moments before he finally spoke. "Open a channel."
After an audible sound of the channel opening, a collective voice spoke..."USS Pegasus, stand by."
"Well that was...anticlimactic." K'Wor said from Tactical.
Mike glanced back to nod, but in that moment the green glow of a transporter beam flashed, and suddenly standing there was the Borg Queen formerly known as Agnes Jurati.
"So...do I call you Agnes? Doctor? Queen...?" Mike asked in a slightly sarcastic tone.
"Doctor will be fine." Jurati replied.
Mike took a breath. "What do you know about the Gladiator's mission?"
"The USS Gladiator was sent covertly into the conduit to explore the immediate area around the other end and assess any possible threats. We believe this conduit wasn't a natural occurrence and Starfleet agrees. We couldn't traverse the conduit and leave this side unprotected, especially after the events at Earth that occurred recently after. Once Starfleet was able to make necessary repairs, we started to pick up fluctuations in radiation emissions and we needed to remain here to guard against those and anything that might come through." Jurati explained.
"Our initial plan was to take the Pegasus in to look for the Gladiator with the rest of the task force remaining here, just in case." Mike replied after a few moments to think about what he was just told.
"We would not recommend that. Telemetry received from the Gladiator and our own probes suggest that the bigger the ship, the more subspace turbulence, gravimetric sheer, and hull stresses a vessel will encounter. What's needed is a small vessel that is heavily shielded and highly maneuverable." Jurati replied.
"We didn't bring a Defiant or Adamant class ship with us." Mike replied with a smirk.
Jurati raised an eyebrow, "No, but the Pegasus is equipped with an Aquarius class escort. Her shields can be modified and adjusted to withstand the expected stresses."
"That might work, if the shield improvements are done right, and someone aboard can adjust them on the fly." K'Wor spoke up.
Mike turned and looked at the anomaly again for a moment. "Small crew. Arev and K'Wor, go get the Perseus prepped, and have Mr. Stark beam over as well to help with shield improvements." Mike paused for a brief moment, "Also have Dr. Bagwell, Mr. Monroe-Wayne, Commander Grian, and Colonel Kyle join...and have Kyle bring three Marines. I'm also going and that's not up for debate."
"I would suggest taking along one of our own as well. Two of Ten will be an asset." Jurati added.
Mike was about to say no, but something in the back of his mind told him to trust. "Alright, as long as Two of Ten understands I'm in command."
Jurati nodded.
Mike then added, "I'll inform Admiral T'Lar."
I will beam to her ship to coordinate efforts here. We will explore the possibility of sending a larger ship and prepare defenses here, so we do not have to adjust 'on the fly'. Jurati glanced at K'Wor and smirked.
K'Wor returned the smirk. "We'll have the Perseus ready to depart in an hour, then it'll just be getting the shields boosted."
Mike nodded. "Alright, let's get the work."
