While in route to the Conduit, Mike took time to talk again with the renowned author Jackson Longfellow Cain. The author had come to Starbase 400 to meet with several officers that had served during the Dominion War. His 'retrospective looking back twenty-five years' was to tell stories of the individuals and lesser known battles.

During his interviews with Bremer, K'Temoc, Draven, Lennox, and others he decided to also start another project, a historical documentary novel about Starbase 400. In a way, Mike was thrilled to have the stories of his crew told, but on the other hand he was apprehensive the attention being somehow misplaced.

The two sat in Bremer's Ready Room. "And so in 2391 Starbase 400 hosted peace talks between the C'Hakilians the Krazzle? How did that go?" Cain asked, hoping for some quotable words to be printed.

Instead, Mike simply nodded as he sipped his tea.

Cain stared at Mike for a moment.

"As you can expect, the peace talks weren't without some drama and frustration, but in the end they were successful and the Krazzle returned the lost territory to the C'Hakilians. However, I believe you want to know more about the attack on Ra' Graline and myself by Morder on the second day of the talks." Mike finally replied.

Cain smirked. He knew some readers would be interested to read the details of the peace talks, but many more would want to read about the fighting.

The two continued to discuss events of the 2390s for the next hour or more, mostly focusing on battles fought by the ships of Starbase 400 and defense of the Station itself, however the last few questions focused back on the Dominion War.

As the two finished their drinks, Mike paused and looked over at Cain. He studied the older Human's face for a moment. He new Cain had never served in Starfleet and knew during the Dominion War he'd been a reporter for the Federation News Service.

"...but with that said, I think someone else said things much better than I could over four hundred years ago when he was writing about a war he took part in. 'None came out unscathed. Many gave their lives, many their health, and some their sanity. All who survived will long remember the horror they would rather forget. But they suffered and they did their duty so a sheltered homeland can enjoy the peace that was purchased at such a high cost.' Those words are as true today as they were then." Mike said.

Cain looked at his empty glass as he pondered the words of Bremer as well as his quote of Eugene Sledge. After a few moments, Cain nodded then made notes on his PADD.

After another moment, the comm beeped. "Admiral Bremer, we've arrived at the Conduit's outer marker and we've dropped out of warp."

"Understood, procced at half impulse and I'll be there in a moment. Bremer out."

"Would you mind if I accompany you to the Bridge?" Cain asked.

Mike stood and set his glass on his desk. "Not at all, and maybe we'll give you something else to write about while we're here."
