Getting to know the crew

Mission: Episode 118 - "It's About Family"
Location: USS Falcon
Timeline: MD 1 11:00 hrs

Location: USS Falcon Bridge

Sam is on the bridge of the USS Falcon, he was underneath the helm station the casing to the panel was open. He was trying to reroute a few of the linear circuits. No one had noticed or called everyone to attention l. Everyone was distracted and busy. No one noticed Lieutenant Commander Leia Dhej walking onto the bridge.

Leia notice that most of the bridge appear to be in a state of disarray, with open panels all over the place and different officers and enlisted personnel working tirelessly. She heard how bad the explosion was and how much damage it did to several shifts to include the Falcon.

"Who's in charge?" Leia called out, has she looked around the bridge trying to see who that would be. She wondered if she could be of assistance. She had a little bit of free time on her hands.

Sam barely heard her voice through all the ruckus clanging sounds of people working hard. Sam made sure to call out in a proud tone. "That would be me, the captain and the first officer are not onboard." Said assuming it was another engineer looking to help.

"Well that's partially true, the captain isn't here." Leia said wondering how he would react.

Sam was a little puzzled by her response he decided to crawl out from under the helm station. Then he saw a real woman in a red uniform burying the rank of Lieutenant Commander. "Hello Commander I'm Lieutenant Sam Carrington Helmsman of the Falcon and duty officer in charge. Sam walked over to her and reached out to shake her hand

"Leia Dhej, the new first officer." Leia said that she returned to shake his hand. He seems like a typical helmsman type. He was confident in himself, he had the real take charge type personality which she appreciated.

"I didn't realize you're coming in board today, but I know that I would have made sure that you had had a proper arrival." Sam said feeling a little guilty that they hadn't prepared for her arrival.

"Now what would be the fun in that, sometimes I just want to see what it really goes on on the ship. As your new first officer, I need to know the capabilities of my crew."'Leia said to him, believing every word she just said.

"She's a good crew, and our captain is top-notch." Sam said knowing that he was a little biased not just because she was his girlfriend but also his former first officer she had performed her duties as first officer immaculately.

"So I've been told, I'll keep up the proud tradition." Leia said knowing she already had command level experience. She recalled her time with host Batai Dhej. He was the commanding officer of the USS Sirona. She could remember her fondness for the crew and the former first officer Elsie Coleman. Laugh she heard LT was now a captain of her own Starship.

Leia need that host should not visit previous attachments, and the relationship between the Batai and Elsie were close, they weren't romantically involved but he thought of her as a little sister and definitely a mentor of sorts.

Batai always thought him and Elsie were like Sisko and Dax. However unlike the previous host she was a little more reserved. Yeah it always wanted to reach out to her and see how she was doing, but she also need a non-trills had a hard time disassociating one host from another.

Sam just smiled as he looked around the bridge, and then that smile quickly added. "The bridge doesn't normally look like this, I don't know if you're familiar with the explosion and all the damage." Sam said only waited for her to respond, he was not sure how much of the story he would have to explain.

"I'm familiar with the events l, I just can't believe it happened. How are the repairs coming?" Leia asked, according to last reports the ship should be ready in 2 weeks.

"We're slightly ahead of schedule, the crew really wants to get this ship back together as soon as possible. She's at home, a lot of us have grown really fond of her.

Sam walked over kto the command chair. There was a pad sitting on the chair, he entered his command codes and unlock the pad and then gave it to her. "Here's a full list Commander, of all the repairs and all the repairs I still need to be completed as you can see we're already ahead of schedule. Lieutenant Aubrey Miller or chief engineer really pushing to get this ship operational." Sam said to her.

"Engineers, they're not happy if their engines aren't running." Leia find it out to see him with an amusing look on her face. This Aubrey person definitely had lit a fire under the crew. That was a good trait to have in her opinion. Being able to motivate the crew and have them follow you with a trait that a lot of people assume they had but a few actually mastered.

"She's a very capable officer, and one hell of an engineer. I'll tell you about two days ago, she was not a happy camper. However we have the ship now on track to be repaired couple days ahead of schedule." Sam said with a prideful smile on his face.

Leia started to review the data pad, she was very impressed with how organized Aubrey and Sam had been in preparing the repairs. The scene starts to fade away with Sam and Leia talking about the repairs and the priority of certain systems over others.

Location: Conference Room

3 hours had passed since Leia first boarded the USS Falcon. She had decided to take a lunch break, but most of the key systems being down the replicator in the conference room and one of the p replicators working besides the mess hall and she didn't want to head that far down she prefer to be on the bridge.

She wasn't the only one taking a break at this moment Sam also was hungry and decided to take a break as well. For the moment it was just a two of them. "Taking a lunch break as well?" Sam asked Leia, she was heading towards a replicator. He wasn't sure if she was just there to get a drink or if he was going to eat.

"Yes I need a break from those ice linear chips." Leia said as she inputted her order into the replicator a few seconds later it was out a BLT some potato salad and a fruit punch drink. He then proceeded over to the conference room table to sit down.

Sam had ordered a ham and turkey sandwich, heavy on the mayonnaise. He also had replicated some chips to go with his meal and he had a cool chilling glass of Dr pepper. Sam walked over to the table directly across from her, before putting his plate down he politely asked. "Do you mind if I sit here?"

"By all means Lieutenant." Leia said with a smile. She decided to pick up her sandwich and started to eat it.

After situating himself, he picked up his sandwich and took a bite as well. "Well it's edible." Sam teased with a big smile on his face.

"Agreed." Leia said, and she too gave a big smile. She would preferred to have a chef on board but if you knew that wasn't a possibility so every opportunity she could be on the station she would get food from one of the restaurant owners.

"Hope you don't mind, but I speak frankly and candid with you?" Same ass knowing he needed to talk about his relationship with the captain. He wanted to hurry to hear it from him and not someone else.

"I always have an open door. What's on your mind Lieutenant?" Leia I said she looked over to Sam. She wondered if she did something to offend him earlier, but she thought they were working pretty well together. He didn't want to make too many assumptions. Maybe he just wanted to express who he was to her; that was not an unusual thing to do for a department head and a first officer type scenario.

"I'm not sure if you're mean to wear but Commander Sarah Rogers are captain and I have a relationship. Stsrbase 400 command knows about it, and I wanted you to know about it." Sam said, wondering how she was going to react to the news. Was she going to quote him some starkly regulations, and the potential conflict of interest. Or was she going to accept it because there have been other cases of captains dating department heads and first officers dating departments and being married to them as well.

Leia was a little surprised, but clearly It had been working for the two of them. There was no disciplinary tracts on his record. She had previously looked it up, so obviously they maintain a level professionalism. "I appreciate you bringing this to my attention, and I assume you are making the same level professionalism that you act well Colonel Bagwell with your commanding officer?" Leia asked.

"Of Course Commander." Sam said, as he took a small sip from his doctor pepper. He was grateful that he hadn't started lecturing him about then necessity to separate romantic involvement and personal relationships between senior staff.

Leia new on smaller ships that it was more likely that relationships would form. With a ship this small and only one small holodeck, what else can the crew d? Getting into relationships, seems like a normal progression. She had in participated some of the senior staff but she was a little shocked to learn it was a captain and the chief helmsman.

Leia took a small sip from her drink, she listened to his quick and simple answer. "I have no objections, and I want to thank you for bringing this to my attention I expect that you guys will maintain the same level of professionalism that you have previously. I just have to say it as your CO but I also know that the captain is my CO.

She remembered Batai having a similar conversation with Elsie when she told him that she wanted to date Byron. Even though her previous house was okay with it and apparently she was too she decided though that she wasn't going to date anybody on the Falcon crew, there were several members on Starbase 400 that could be potential partners. She wanted to maintain a certain level of professionalism and distance between her crew and her position as first officer.

"Any other relationships I should be made aware of?" Leia asked. "Or should I just assume that everyone's in a relationship with someone on the senior staff, because if not I'd be honestly surprised." Leia said that she took a momentary breath and then continued on. "This is a small shift and a lot of us work really closely together, feelings and attachments will obviously happen."

"You're correct, chief of security Dustin Reynolds is dating chief engineer Aubrey Miller. But that's the only two from the senior staff." Sam said that knowing that most of the staff weren't dating each other.

"Surprised that our doctor is in dating somebody on the senior staff." Leia said knowing that a lot of Betazed's has had prearranged marriages.

"Believe he's dating Ensign Suki Solwick. She's an operations officer on the station." Sam said, realizing that he knew a lot of information about his crew.

The two of them continue to talk for a while as Sam continued to bring her up to speed about crew interactions crew relationships, some of the missions that they had been on. The scene fades away with the two of them smiling and enjoying the casual conversation. Sam had a really good feeling about her and she had really good feeling about him that they're going to be able to work well together.
