Edg'rrr noticed out the corner of his eye that Osmond was concerned. Moving into the system was the easy part. The hard part was wondering when this gul would play their hand. On a technical standpoint Edg'rrr knew they knew the ship was in the system making its way inward. Scanners could only be counted on so far however. Osmond mentioned on the way this particular gul had some allies with the Breen raiders in the area on top of whatever former Cardassian military officers were loyal enough to follow. Still he found it puzzling that they would set up near the Badlands not within it like others such as the Maquis had before. It's like they were tempting the Federation to take action.
"Slow to one quarter.". Said Osmond.
"One quarter aye." Said a Romulan as she inputted the commands into the helm. As the ship slowed into a far orbit of a barren rocky planet Edg'rrr scratched his head wondering where the bad guys could be. The only notable features were the vast flat plains of ancient fields with the occasional dust storm rolling over them.
"I suppose this would be an appropriate time to knock." Said Osmond pointing to his tactical officer, a Trill. "Lieutenant Paomo you're up." The lieutenant got to work scanning the area for anything. Edg'rrr had a hope that nothing would pop up but a ping crushed that small hope.
"Sir starship approaching from the other side of the planet." Said lieutenant Paomo as Osmond shifted in his chair a bit.
"Magnify.". Said Osmond as on the main screen what was seen appeared to be very familiar to Edg'rrr yet considerably more dangerous than he feared. "Is that one of ours?" Asking this his crew for to work. The ship in question appeared similarly to an old Constitution class but with the body of a Miranda bolted where the typical saucer would be. What worried Edg'rrr were the placements of phaser cannon pods on that primary hull. As more of the ship came into view other upgrades were seen making it more akin to a Pakled Clumpship yet far more refined.
"Receiving a hail sir." Said the comm officer.
"Alright. Let's see about some answers then. On screen.". Said Osmond as after a chirp a somewhat overweight Cardassian appeared on the main screen. The bridge he sat on definitely looked Starfleet but it has more wires and works in progress than consoles.
"Captain. Here you finally are. I hope you don't mind but I decided to take this little project of mine out for a test drive.". Said the gul smiling. Edg'rrr noticed Osmond pondering something.
"Well it certainly is a fine ship. Even with outdated parts." Said Osmond.
"There are no laws broken here Captain. There is rightful salvage in open space after all." Said the gul chuckling slightly.
"True but since you're still wearing a gul uniform I presume you're still tied with the Cardassian militia. Which correct me if I'm wrong but they have quite a number of restrictions right now. A few I'm noticing are conveniently pointing at my ship." Said Osmond as the gul gave a sigh lowering his head placing a hand on it.
"A most unfortunate find. A shame you must be shown the true way. With what the powers of air and darkness have given us. I wish you and your crew a kindness that you do not suffer in the end." Said the gul as warnings blared.
"INCOMING AFT SECTION!" Yelled the tactical officer as before anyone could say another word the ship rocked hard nearly tossing Edg'rrr out of his seat as multiple consoles sparked.
"Raise shields! All hands return fire! Helm drive us closer to the kitbash! Target the neck and pylons if possible.". Said Osmond as the ship lumbered heavily to life. Drawing close it opened fire with a barrage of phaser fire as it danced across the shields of the gul's command ship. When little damage was seen two torpedoes launched from the rear of the enemy ship striking the Dahl'hevva. The lights flicker on the bridge. Whatever that gul had it was able to mitigate a fair amount of defenses. This gave Edg'rrr an idea.
"Sir we have a modified Breen Chel Grett class with a flight of Cardassian Hidekis in escort." Said the tactical officer as Osmond rolled his eyes. "That's where the first shot came from. I'm sorry sir they must've used a mineral in the small asteroid cluster a thousand kilometers away from us to mask the shot."
"Glad they want to throw us a party.". Said Osmond. "You're fine lieutenant. We're still in the game.". He thought about the next move and brought up the map of the system on the main screen. "That cluster is part of a larger field nearby. Torn off by the gravity of the planet. Helm set a course. We'll see if we can hide there for a better strategy."
"Captain Osmond! I think I discovered something." Said Edg'rrr as Osmond looked over at him.
"Yes Ensign?" Asked Osmond.
"I believe I figured out how they're able to bypass a fair amount of our defenses in regards to that 'kitbash' ship. They're remodulating the shields of the torpedo. Kind of like the Borg but the weapon scans the target moments before impact, switches up the frequency, and gains enough protection to maximize damage. If something like this we're to be perfected," said Edg'rrr before Osmond cut him off.
"They'd have something against nearly every faction this side of the galaxy. Yet that would require a major amount of processing for such a small payload.". Said Osmond. "Unless."
"Weapons fire from the enemy fleet!" Said the lieutenant as Edg'rrr spun around and began inputting some commands.
"I believe I can solve this sir!". Said Edg'rrr enthusiastically.
"Belay that. Tactical ready phasers. Target incoming torpedoes." Said Osmond.
"I can get it sir." Said Edg'rrr as Osmond looked over at him.
"I said belay that ensign! That's an order!". Said Osmond as the torpedoes drew near.
"Got it!". Yelled Edg'rrr.
"ENSIGN!". Said Osmond standing up.
"Impact!". Yelled the lieutenant as everyone on the bridge was knocked towards the front of the room, with Osmond flying a ways even. The ship becoming lost in a blindingly blue electrified light show tumbling end over end as if doing back flips while moving forward headlong onto a dense asteroid field.
