Mission:
Episode 116 - "A Bounty of Trust"
Location: Mess Hall
Timeline: MD3 - 1615 hrs
Ezekiel was in a small messhall like area. It had been a short time since they docked his ship for refit. He was already getting antsy about staying on the Starbase. 400 nice place to visit, I didn't feel right just sitting here while people out there needed help. He was part of special operations and right now he felt like a grounded caged animal.
He did not feel like going to the Promenade today, he had been there several times over the past few days felt like months since he'd been here. The small mess hall reminded him of the USS Falcon's mess hall.
Aubrey had seen the captain earlier and she watched him for a bit and them headed over to where he sat.
"Captain." Aubrey said with a smile. "Mind if I join you?"
"It's Commander now, not in command of the Falcon at the moment." Ezekiel said with a big grin on his face.
“You are my captain.” Aubrey said. “I don’t care what they call you. I won’t disrespect you in that manner, sir.” She wished he would let her sit down.
"while I appreciate that, I'm only a captain when I'm in command of the ship when I'm on the station I'm only Commander Ezekiel bagwell, and if you do respect me and you'll refer to me by my proper rank while we're on station unless we're on station while on official duty for the falcon then you can call me Captain but right now I'm not Captain of the Falcon." Ezekiel pointed out to her.
“Yes Commander.” Aubrey replied. She knew he was right but it felt odd to call him that.
"How are you acclimating to the Corps of Engineers?" Ezekiel ask, he was generally interested in how she felt there.
“I am grateful to be on the Falcon.” Aubrey said. “I know they hate having me there but someone needs to protect her.
"What has you so concerned?" Ezekiel asked Aubrey. He hoped she would open up.
“I feel like they want to strip her down.” Aubrey said with a sigh. “Take away what makes her unique and yet still call her the Falcon.”
"That typically happens in a retrofit or a decomissioning. I was told this was going to be a refit." Ezekiel said a little confused on what the Corps of Engineers where doing to his ship.
Aubrey sighed .”The truth is I think I’m a little too obsessive with her.” She glanced around. “I don’t like them working on my engines.”
"Engineers and there Engines. But I understand you the Falcon is my baby, just like her engines are your baby. We share a symbiotic relationship to our ship." Ezekiel said knowing that Aubrey and him shared a special bond that most of the crew would never share with the ship.
“I’m like a fussy mother.” Aubrey said with a sigh. She laughed then. “I think I might be driving some of them crazy but I am staying put. I want to know what they are doing.”
"Mother of Engineering?" Ezekiel said with a big grin. "I like how that sounds Aubrey."
“Yeah, I don’t know about that.” Aubrey laughed. She looked at him and her eyes grew serious. “I just want to make sure they do their jobs correctly.”
"And I appreciate that, so does the rest of the Falcon crew." Ezekiel said knowing she would protect the Falcon.
“Your bored out of your mind aren’t you?” Aubrey said. “Can’t stand to be away from your ship.”
"Does it really show?" Ezekiel asked Aubrey. Was he really that transparent?
“Only because I know you.” Aubrey said. “We’ve worked together long enough to know each other..”
"There are so many reports a man can read, or prep missions before he gets bored." Ezekiel pointed out to Aubrey. He was glad that she was there to listen. Having down time, allowed him a chance to get to know her in a way he would not be able to, if they were on the Falcon and on a mission.
“I know what you mean.” Aubrey sympathized. “As chief engineer it seems I am constantly filling out reports for engine checks and repairs, part replacements. It is endless and I used to drag my feet and grumble but I decided to just get them over with.” She smiled. “We are lucky though, to be able to serve and have the people we love here with us.”
"I didn't think somebody outside of Anna could understand me but I'm starting to think you do." Ezekiel said with the warm smile on his face.
"I know it will be awhile but I'm already looking forward to the day we are home on our ship again."
"Do you know when that will be possibly?" Ezekiel asked, hoping she would know.
“I don’t.” Aubrey said with a sigh. “And it does no good asking. The bureaucratic bull just keeps spinning answers saying things like when they are finished.”
"I appreciate all you are doing. Keep it up if you dont mind." Ezekiel said with a warm smile.
"I will." Aubrey felt good that he appreciated her. "And you will be the first to know when she's close to ready."
"Thank you." Ezekiel said as the scene starts to fade away.
“Of course.” Aubrey said with a smile. She was glad she had gotten to spend some time with the captain.
