It was 0800 hours and Deela arrived on the Essex after her meeting with Bremer. She hadn't gotten to command the ship so this was going to be the first time she would sit in the center seat of that ship.

She stepped out of the turbolift and stood on the middle of the bridge, staring at the screen showing the stars and space. She walked over to the center seat and sat down, crossing one leg over the other one. The seat was more comfortable than the one on the Essex A. As she sat, she waited for the others to show up on the bridge.

"T'Lar to transporter room 2. Is Major Hurd and his marines on board yet?"

"Affirmative."

"Good to hear. T'Lar out."

Andrew was already on the bridge, when the Admiral showed up. She didn't see him because he was sitting at the engineering console with his back to the door. It was still an hour to launch but the ship was ready. He tapped his comm badge, "Clifford to Engineering. You all set down there?"

** Engineering here Exec. We are all ready to go. Impulse engines are already online, warp will be ready one minute after leaving Starbase **

Clifford smiled to himself, the engineer sounded eager to get under way. He crossed over to his seat beside the Admiral. As he sat down he said, "Admiral, all the crew are on board, the ship is ready to go when you are".

She looked at him for a moment, then smiled, "Very good. Let's shove off then. Prepare to depart."

Tressa was seated to the right of the helmsman. She was still training to pilot small craft, and when Commander Clifford had offered to let her on the bridge when they launched she jumped at the chance. She tried to stay out of everyone's way, but curiousity got the best of her and she watched intently as the experienced starship pilot prepared for flight. When she caught the Commander's eye she flashed him a grateful smile.

Deela looked over at Tressa next to her, "Welcome to the bridge. Nice to see you again."

"Thank you, Admiral," the doctor said.

R'nard, just coming back from his communication with Admiral Bremer, took the Tactical station. He was ready for action. He was a field man, and was itching for something to happen. He knew T'lar had the Admiral's orders by now.

"Lt. Commander Lokran, once we reach the Triangle, I need you to keep an eye out for any vessel that isn't authorized to be there."

Andrew stared at the view screen, then spoke, "Comms. Notify starbase control that we are ready to depart. Then as soon as they reply, request permission to undock. Helm, as soon as the tractor beamed are diconnected, move the ship 50 metres from the dock. Then hold position."

Comms soon came back with the reply that clearance had been granted, the tractor beams disconnected, and the ship floated free. Andrew nodded at the helmsman and with a few light taps on the console, the ship moved slowly out to 50 metres from the dock.

He looked over at the comms officer, "request main doors open. Helm, once the doors start opening, move the ship towards them". He smiled to himself then added, "This is a new ship, I don't want to scratch it just yet, so thrusters only"

Pretty soon the ship was in free space.

Andrew nodded to the screen, "Course, Admiral?"

"We're directed to go to the edge of the Triangle but no further. We're to perform sensor sweeps."

Andrew smiled, "Boring, but orders are orders. Helm set course to follow the current orders. Sensors on full spread, if it moves, or isn't natural, I want to hear about it."

"Aye Commander," the helmsman replied. Tressa watched as he opened the sensors on the operations station. Instantly the console showed the space around the Essex in off-black, punctuated with tiny points of starlight. He then adjusted their course according to their orders.

Moments later, a tiny beep and a bright flash of green alerted both the helmsman and the curious doctor that something was in their space.

"Commander?" the pilot said. "Unknown spacecraft 2500 kilometers."

Deela leaned forward in her seat, "What type of vessel?"

A response was made, "It's a Dagger class."

She didn't think that she'd ever run into one of the pirate ships but there it was. "So much for boring Mr. Clifford. They'd be no match for this ship. The Intrepid is double the size of the Dagger class." She said proudly.

Rachael was sitting in her office hearing what was going on, on the bridge. She was curious as to what was going to happen.

"Lt. Commander Lokran, scan their ship. I want to know everything about them that we can. As long as they are in the Triangle and not in Federation space, we can't do much anyway except observe."

Andrew had kept quiet. But the Admiral was right, this was not boring, this was worrying.

He continued to watch the screen, "Admiral, we have only just left the starbase. If they have half decent sensors they would be able to see when anybody enters or leaves the starbase, and possibly scan the starbase itself. we may need to start installing sensor blocking in the area."

"Makes sense."

"Admiral, I've scanned their ship for weapons. They only have standard weapons. They're travelling towards the Meja Nebula."

T'Lar sat for a moment, thinking of her next move, "Let's see what is so interesting in that Nebula. Keep an eye out for other ships."
